Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

They keep including "holiday 2015" in the same sentence as "exclusive." It's legalese. Thread title should probably have "in 2015" added to it, if anything.

Yeah...this is starting to become weird. I think it's Microsoft wording, and Crystal Dynamics are tied to it. Even if they don't say timed, if they say any time period it's a wash. Since they didn't say XBox One exclusive, that means crossgen too.

So much salt...
Got a xbone because I knew MS deep pockets mean good exclusives, said it before say it again: Its about the games not the -P- counting.

I loved Tomb Raider 2013, this sequel is one of my most anticipated game of 2015, i would have bought it on PC cause of the best graphics, but thankfully i've an Xbox One too, i'll buy it there day one! can't wait

Hahahahah

Very upsetting.

TR was my GOTY. Shame I don't be able to play it. That's business I suppose. Still don't see how MS paid enough money to cover the lost sales considering the history of TR on the PS systems, but they obvioisly know best.

Still, huge bummer.

Wow, wonder how many millions of dollars it took for Square to fuck over PC and PS4 owners. Seriously, didn't the Definitive Edition sell worse on Xbone? The amount of money MS needed to pay to offset these potential lost sales must be massive.

This is ASSUMING that that's what happened. We all remember what happened with Titanfall right? A bunch of posters said the same "wah wah anti-consumer" stuff, and in the end it turns out that it was because MS stepped in and footed part of the bill for developing the game. It could be the same thing here or something similar. SE isn't exactly in the best situation financially right now.

Wasn't Titanfall still coming to other platforms before it was later bought life of title?

I am not even mad because they are scoring the successor to my favorite game of 2013 or because I generally think 3rd party exclusive are just ridiculously dumb.

But THIS franchise has ALWAYS been on PlayStation, you could even say it grew with PlayStation and owes a lot of it's success to PlayStation. Now for the first time ever, it won't be on PlayStation. BOOOOOOOOO

Good god the PS bias on this forum is sickening. Constant jibes about 900p 30fps, shot themselves in the foot etc... etc...

Is there anywhere on GAF where adults share their opinion rather than angsty teenagers with a severe brand loyalty delusion?

*giggle*

Funny. Stuff like this doesn't make me want to buy an Xbox One, it makes me dislike MS and the Xbox brand even more than I already did.

I dont get why MS does not invest in IP's and studios. If you want to counter Uncharted get one of your studios to develop one. Buying previously multiplat games for specific time periods without helping in development in anyway just seems so lazy.

Although I thought TR was one of the worst games I have had the misfortune to play I know there are quite a few fans of the game. I really feel sorry for those who bought a ps4 or upgraded a pc and played TR DE just in anticipation of the next title.

Of course both companies fund some terrible projects. I was really just trying to point out the absurdity behind the "the publisher has to own the studio to make an exclusive legit" mantra some people keep bringing up. As if the exact manner in which great videogames are funded is critically important to people. Like anyone of the people criticizing this shit gave two fucks that MGS4 was paid to be kept off of the 360 in 2008. No one ran around here yelling about how scummy Sony was for that stuff back then.

Sony doesn't have the money to really throw around these days to pay for exclusives, so suddenly it's not a cool thing for anyone else to do it.

MGS4 was paid for? You're going to have to provide a source there buddy because I'm pretty sure it stayed off the X360 due to technical reasons and Kojima's own bias for PS. Besides every MGS was exclusive to PS at one point. Last I checked, TR wasn't.

This is scummy, no matter what way you try framing it. It's everything wrong with MS and it seems they've now long overstayed their welcome. If they're not going to put in the effort, I'm not going to be supporting them anytime soon

Are people really breaking this down on a moral level?

They are a business. Another business made an offer and they accepted it.

Its not like phil spencer punched a sony fan in the head and said this is MINE now

BUT SONY OR MS ARE LIKE MY BFFS. THIS IS SERIOUS DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND!? THEY TOTALLY BROKE MY TRUST

People acting like damn children over fucking video games.

I was going to get a Xbone because I wanted to play Sunset Overdrive and maybe some of the launch titles I missed, but this makes me want skip the entire system. Destructive tactics by MS. I don't want to support this. Fund development, don't spend to lock things away.

This has always been Microsoft's problem. Instead of making your own/ funding true exclusives, you throw your wallet at some 3rd party developer. We can't blame Crystal Dynamics for accepting this deal. Whether this games is well received or not is irrelevant to them. They have already been paid.

Considering this....
http://www.videogamer.com/ps4/tomb_..._over_twice_as_much_on_ps4_than_xbox_one.html

Microsoft compensated them handsomely to ignore PC/PS4 in favor of Xbox One.

Bloodborne is completely different.

Bloodborne is co-developed by Sony Japan Studio. Not even close

Bloodborne is a totally different situation though.

Bloodborne is being co-developed by a Sony studio. Not exactly an apt comparison.

Yeah it might be different, what do we know. But the point is anyways that Sony funds it (or co-funds it or whatever) and thus it stays an exclusive, which is basically what MS does with this game as well. For me as a consumer, its the same deal. I will have to get a PS4 if I want to play Bloodborne (which I want), and I have to get a Bone if I want to play this (which I probably wont for a while).

This is the sickest thing I've ever heard! It's simply disgusting!

Wasn't Square Enix the publisher of the first one!?

How the hell could this happen? Square Enix was always a big name for the Playstation franchaise and now this!? With Square Enix as Publisher of the first game, I was very certain that the Sequel comes to Playstation. WTF, Tomb Raider was always on Playstation. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!? Geez.. I'm mad now!

Man im still floored by the TR exclusivity. At this rate the PS4 install base and sales will increase with a better lineup for next year. They gonna be losing out on alot of money by then.

Great catch for Microsoft, wonder how much they paid for it? Through Spencer's wording I'm quite certain this deal won't extend beyond a timed exclusivity, though. Square-Enix would be mad to let that multi-platform moolah run away. (On the other hand, it is S-E...)

This would be true if Sony was actually going out and securing 3rd party exclusives which they are not and havent in a very long time.

They probably should though. Sony not tossing money at 3rd party pubs is a bit of a weakness.

I don't think Sony not buying 3rd party pubs is a weakness last gen they made some great IPs and some of them are big in sales.
UC4 will sell twice as much as this new TR game if it on XB only i would bet on it .

I think people are missing that Tomb Raider has been on the Playstation platform since the first title. This isn't some new game being made of whatever, it is time honored franchise of the Playstation brand. So yeah this will cause massive backlash. No doubt

Final Fantasy VII all over again!

Admittedly for rather different reasons...

Very strange move on SE's part, clever on MS's part to get an Uncharted counterpart. I enjoyed the first one, but not so much that I'll miss the second.

One day I hope to find out that this really was Kaz all along, just pretending to be fake. Guy is hilarious.

I understand the disappointment about the exclusivity, but why aren't people just as bummed about cross-gen on a Holiday 2015 title?

Seems odd.

This is no different to what Sony did during the PS2 days.

It sucks, but it isn't a new thing
De facto exclusivity because you're selling multiple times the other two consoles combined isn't quite the same thing as a cash grab to help your struggling console.

I do agree that it's not worth getting emotional about this, though.

Hope they fail hard, MS is disgusting, Instead of creating their own studios and games they are paying 3rd party to NOT release their game on other platforms, scummy and low.

I hope CD and Square will regret that deeply.
