Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

It's like people forget the days of 16-bit and 32-bit consoles where different console ports frequently had different publishers. It's not like this would be a new thing.

The difference really is developers chose more about what they develop for rather than publishers buying out the games in the past. There was not enough money in video games for buyouts. This is only a recent trend in the past 10 years.

Then find a way to get the Xbox selling Japan because that's why those games aren't hitting the console.
Yeah, because MS tried with Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Eternal Sonata, and such. The reason Japan avoids the Xbox One is because the games did not sell well.

Hey Square, go die in a fire you worthless POS company.

Way to make Tomb Raider exclusive to the Xbox One. Scared that you won't meet sales targets without Microsoft's money huh? Fuck you if you think I'm paying for this now after you just shat on your fanbase. That's going to hold up, right? Fucking making this exclusive to the Xbox One despite Tomb Raider's history on the Playstation? You're a bunch of clowns. I take it as a personal insult that you mouthbreathers are allowed to make decisions with regards to how franchises I used to really love are handled. Your asses got bailed out when you purchased Eidos because their president, like all of you, was a complete and utter mook. I make two better executives than your entire company combined in the toilet every morning before I go to work. I look forward to the day that your company crashes and burns into the fucking sea, only to be picked apart as salvage by western iOS developers, at which time the franchises you've already defiled with incompetence and negligence can be finally whored out to smartphones.

That's assuming you asshats don't beat your eventual western smartphone overlords to the punch, which you probably will because you give fuck all about the legacy of these franchises, to say nothing about just how little regard you hold towards the fans who made them what they where.

As the owner of a PS4 please go swallow glass

Never been more appropriate ;)

Salt level over 90.000.

not really, if you get offered tons of money

Not alienating my customer base is MUCH more valuable to a franchise then a big momentary sake of Money from MS.

The only way this make any sense for Square is for Microsoft to have paid them for the loss of revenue from not bringing TR to Sony Platform. That would be a LOT of money.

They already had it. They just paid to take it away from everyone else.

I'm not arguing this position. I'm just saying, I have now 1 more exclusive I am interested in. Nothing else.

We can discuss the validity and how strategic the investment was for MS (or Square Enix) on this deal, but that was not what I was discussing.

I also do not care that they 'paid it away' from other platforms. It is a loss for us consumers, but a gain (we can debate how much or if it is ) for Microsoft. Read my original post.

I'm wondering what Square's role even is in this anymore. Did Microsoft buy Tomb Raider from them? Are they licensing it out? It's their game and they're not even publishing it

But ya, that makes me think it's like Dead Rising 3 where it was in trouble and Microsoft is getting them to the finish line

Or like Bayonetta 2, as much as people want to refuse to think that.

Even if it's time exclusive or not. A lot of damage is done to their fans on PlayStation platforms by communicating it that way. Really nobody wins here.

They werent going to be making a sequel Right off the heels of releasing the Definitive Edition and talking all about using Laras sequel model in it.

Holy crap, dude. What on earth.

STOP. People in this thread have already explained the No Man's Sky situation and how it is drastically different but you continue to be obtuse. Stop making false equivalences.

One is a game that wouldnt have been made without the help of a publisher due to losing their game in a terrible accident (still coming to X1 and PC btw)

the other is a game that was shown at the Sony conference and now has turned exclusive for no reason at all.

Luckly I have an X1 but I'm pissed I cant get it on PC, which is how I played the first one.

Oh god. Thank you. All those false equivalencies were making my head spin.

Same thing with Bloodbourne. Do people really believe that it would have been made without Sony approaching them? Case in point: MS's Platinum game Scalebound. How people think these games/situations are the same as Rise of TR just boggles my mind.

Interesting tactic.... I mean risk vs reward... How many ps4 owers are going to buy a Xbox to play this instead of waiting for a 2016 port, vs how many existing ps4 TR owners who might get seriously butthurt over this and be done with the game untill it shows up for free on ps+ some far way down the road....

Anti-consumer?? you mean anti-Sony consumer.
Based on the sales trajectory for the PS4 so far, that's increasingly looking like a distinction without much merit for this console gen.

Nobody made this much of a big deal when Tomb raider moved to PS exclusive back in the day, when the DMC series was PS2 exclusive or when RE4 was believed to be exclusive to GC.
Dude, you're talking out of your arse. Gaming forums as far back as Usenet have always complained about popular series being platform exclusive.

Anti-consumer?? you mean anti-Sony consumer. All exlusives are paid for, get over it. This is a business and MS is just trying to stay competitive. Nobody made this much of a big deal when Tomb raider moved to PS exclusive back in the day, when the DMC series was PS2 exclusive or when RE4 was believed to be exclusive to GC. 3rd party exclusives is nothing new and there is nothing wrong with the practice. I was already planning on getting this but now that they are only focusing on one platform then its possible that this may a have a positive effect on the quality of the game.

Announcing a game as multi-platform and then months later going back on that is anti-consumer, full stop. There are almost certainly a few people who were interested in the next Tomb Raider who bought their current gen console sometime between its initial announcement and this one that might have made a different purchasing decision, if they'd had all the facts.

Nobody wins in this instance except Microsoft, and several consumers lose. That's how this works.

Or like Bayonetta 2, as much as people want to refuse to think that.

Ooooh yes, that one slipped my mind, thanks. We have no idea how far they got along with ROTTR before this came to fruition.

Hrm. Also guys, that hohoXD123 post is a joke post like the 'I'm an expert' one.

If MS is hoping to push XB1 sales using TR in the same month as UC4 releases for PS4 then they are beyond delusional.

They're pretty similar, so maybe they'll try to get sales from the Uncharted 4 hype. Like people who have an Xbox One and hear good things about Uncharted, so they'll buy a substitute product.

Then why pay to keep it off the PC?????

I wouldn't buy an Xbox One just to play Tomb Raider, it is ridiculous.

It's to sell XB1s. I know people consider PC a MS platform but they don't get money from each game sold unless its a "Games for Windows" game. You could say that they do make money from buying the OS but people don't buy Windows to play a game. Most already have a copy.

They simply profit more from every game sold on the console while when a game is sold on Steam, they only make money from people buying their OS.

The game shouldn't be exclusive but they made a play. I don't think it will sell many consoles but hey, MS is throwing things against the wall so see what sticks. They have the money.

I'm talking about people saying MS publishing the XB version of the game being some indication that it's a permanent exclusive. It doesn't necessarily mean that.

No but the chance of it remaining exclusive went up 10x with MSFT publishing....

That is the point of that news and should be in the OP, if it isn't already.

THE PLOT THICKENS!

Just release this on PC somewhere in 2016 please, thank you.

Loved the first part... but like with Bayo, there isn't a fucking way I'll purchase a new console for them... rather will watch streamings.

I hate waking up to bad news, i feel like it's opposite day, didn't the Tomb Raider reboot sell more on PS consoles?, even though it was multiplat and sold a lot of copies it still remained unprofitable?, so then why on earth would you make the next iteration of the game exclusive to the platfom it sold the least?

it's like telling your kid not to pick food from the ground and then having a dirt-pie yourself!

and what's with all these fanboys saying this is good for ND?, I dont like the Uncharted games and yet 100'ed TR, this sudden exclusivity isnt gonna make me like Uncharted all the sudden.

If RotTR comes to PS4 in spring/summer 2016 that seems like a smart move for SE. They get all the marketing and financial help from MS up front, and then RotTR can have it's own window on the PS4 away from Uncharted 4.

Actually, you're right, that's pretty much brilliant on their part. Money hat for exclusivity, but remove the competition.

A seriously baffling decision buy Square.

After the first game didn't really match expectations (in terms of sales) they get a massive lump sum up front which will offset some of the money lost on game sales. Then, as we saw with Titanfall, MS will push the game with a huge marketing campaign backed by muchos dineros.

Yes I believe it's the wrong decision but I also don't blame Square/CD for grabbing the money offered.
