Perfect.

Someone please make a summary.

Basically, information we had was this was an exclusive, now CBOAT, who has proven in the past to have insider information, has said that it is timed, and confirmed that it's less than 3 years.

Plot thickens.

It should be noted in this thread, were some fanboys expect this game to be released on another platform 6 months later (lol, you are in for a huge disappointment), that every 3rd party exclusive is a timed exclusive; if they wanted an exclusive game forever, MSFT would need to buy the franchise. Even REMake, which was a Nintendo locked exclusive, and those guys know how to lock a game, is coming now to other platforms.

The point is that it will probably remain exclusive for at least 3 years; could release on PC before, but this is what an exclusive is, sorry to break reality on you.

And this is not a new move, and every platform holder has done this before. Remember when Soul Calibur 3 was a PS2 exclusive, even though SC2 sold best on the GCN? Same exact thing.

Now, stop the salty tears.

You threw out 3 years randomly (probably out of your ass). Cboat responded.

Now, stop the salty tears

Game was announced
Gamecoms announced game was Xbone Exclusive (Stressing 2015)
When they were asked for clarification, danced like Ali.
CBOAT confirmed this is a timed exclusive

That sounds almost exactly the same as when people were defending the myriad of issues the X1 had. "It's only the internet" "No one will really care"

News spreads very fast nowadays thanks to social networks man.

I'm actually thinking this idea came from SE and not from MS. Seems like a great idea to postpone release on PS4 to avoid it coming out together with Uncharted, we all know how that scenario would play out. Ofcourse MS would get some benefits out of it as well on the other hand.

Heh, piss off the majority of what? People don't care about this kind of things, PS4 users will still get it once it comes out there. Not everyone is a emotionally driven man children like we enthusiasts are.

The perception of an "old game" coming out months later to other platforms hurts its upper sales potential. Theres no two ways about it. Tomb Raider has been a game identified with Sony platforms for a pretty long ass time, and the sales split of the reboot represent that too.

The main reaction across the net has been negative, and sure, gaming forum users arent the everyman but there is a good barometer use for the bigger picture at times too. Tell the average PS4 owner he cant buy a game due to shenanigans even though it had been announced as a multi-plat and hey, that might stick in his/her throat too.

Only MS benefit from this deal, and even then not as hugely as you'd expect. Theyre probably hoping all these adds will snowball and give a good result, but theyre still thinking too fucking short term which should be a worry.

Their messaging is absolutely hilarious.

Do they really think they can keep the misinformation about the nature of the exclusivity going for more than a year to gain a few extra xbo sales?

That message was an insult. No different from "buy an xbox360 if you don't have access to the Internet"

This has nothing to do with Uncharted 4, there's no way that game is releasing before 2016. If anything, this move will ensure the PS4 version of TR will go up against U4

Can you people enlighten me ?

Who is crazy buttocks on a train ?

Why you all believe him ?
Old-timey insider who back in his heyday had all the craziest insights on the 360's internal specs and games, as well as some third party games. (He also had much better english back in the day).

He's been a lot less prolific/more cryptic recently, and his record has become spotty, but GAF still loves him. Lot of history there.

Every generation of gaming that I can think of from the NES to today has had its fair share of exclusives on one platform versus the other. What exactly makes this situation so unique and upsetting? Serious question here... I'm just not understanding why so much outrage.

Because its a well received series going from multiplatform to exclusive for seemingly no reason (besides $ obviously). This obviously isn't a Bayonetta 2 situation where the game simply would never get made without said company fronting the costs. Its one thing if a series starts and stays exclusive, but when they build up a fanbase on other platforms and then do something like this saying lolnopenotforyou! it makes people pissed.

While that could make sense, delaying the game means it'll sell less than it could have. They could have just as easily released a month or two before UC and there wouldn't be an issue.

CBOAT used to leak a lot of internal stuff about Microsoft early on. I believe it lasted up until Titanfall release in which he insisted on a wrong info despite being proven incorrect numerous times.

Though he's mostly very credible, so I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed that this move by MS/SE is for MS to get all this publicity and maybe a tiny number of sales due to the timed exclusivity, and for SE to avoid competing with Uncharted 4 directly by releasing later on PS4, and obviously to get all the money MS has provided to them.
What was wrong about Titanfall... 792p instead 720p?

The better question is this: How many of us here, who're currently complaining about the game's exclusivity, will cave and get a Xbox One the closer we get to launch day. I know that all of us right now are pretty upset about the news, but these feelings don't last forever.

Buying a console because of TR? Bwahaha, OK.

I mean, this is hilarious. Bayonetta 2 all over again.

The only difference is that Bayonetta was a dead and buried IP with no intention of a possible sequel in the future. Nintendo rescued the IP, whereas Tomb Raider is a well stablished and known franchise with wide appeal that never needed to be tied to a single platform in first place.

Very likely to be timed, particularly with the info from that GI dude. Now please progress from denial to acceptance.

This supposed news of Rise of the Tomb Raider being an Xbox "exclusive" has elicited more of an emotional reaction than the entirety of the new Tomb Raider.

microsoft and microsoft gamers ;)

How on earth does it "counter" Uncharted? Eesh.

As a primarily Xbox player I really think this is just stupid. If you are going to do this then buy the fucking franchise or something. This half ass exclusive stuff doesn't really do anything, just posses a whole hell of a lot of people off.

Timed exclusivity - Everyone owning one of the major platforms gets to play the game sooner or later
Purchasing an IP - Only owners of the moneyhatter's platform get to play the game (and possible sequels) ever

As a consumer, why would you prefer the latter?

The reason things like this are frustrating is because this bullshit only happens in the gaming industry.

Imagine if Cinemark bought exclusivity for captain America 2, and your town only had regal cinemas. That's kinda what's happening here (of course, this metaphor only applies to what should be multi platform titles). It's bullshit.

It makes sense monetarily because it can be Xbox's counter to Uncharted.

I don't really care one way or the other. I have so many games I haven't touched from the 360 days, it will probably be 2 years before I'd play the new one anyway.

So much salt in this thread.... lol

It's a good move by MS, I like that they are fighting with guns now, I may buy the Xbox One afterwall...

I own an Xbox One, and still I am salty. RoTTR "was supposed to be" a technological showcase best played on a high-end PC. I absolutely never intended to play it on the current Xbox.

Hopefully it is indeed only a timed exclusive.

Hey, SE/CD, do you remember what platform Tomb Raider launched on?

Hey do you remember that the reboot sold 2:1 PS4:XB1?

This statement is beyond pathetic. Absolutely past pathetic when seen in context.

It launched on PC, Sega Saturn, and Sony Playstation. Not like Sony owns it or anything like that.

It's obviously MS only play at this point. They need to snatch up 3rd party exclusives (timed or not).

But you would think the devs would learn with what happened to Titanfall.

While that could make sense, delaying the game means it'll sell less than it could have. They could have just as easily released a month or two before UC and there wouldn't be an issue.

True that. It's annoying that the big companies don't clearly communicate when it comes to exclusives or whatever. That goes for this, the No man's sky exclusive thing, the destiny season pass mystery and many other examples.
