Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Well, it's an IP that Sony is publishing, in the same way that Sunset Overdrive is an IP that Microsoft is publishing.

In both cases, you could argue that both developers would have found a publisher to back the game, but both 1st parties wanted the game exclusive to them.

Moneyhats were involved, they were just pre-emptive, so nobody could complain about them.

I was talking about people comparing Rise to Bloodborne. I understand the point about Sunset Overdrive.

Fuck no. I loved Tomb Raider franchise since the very first day it was release, and I won't stop commenting on its follow ups. My concern for the franchise is absolute. Therefore, just as people like you can share why you love it forever, I am allowed infinitely to share why I do not. I do in fact care about it - which is why my anger on this score is so vivid.

Consider it yet another perspective on this announcement. Some people are fanboys and want it to stay only on their system, some people are fanboys and are pissed Microsoft scored, some people aren't fanboys but just want to play it on PS or PC, some people aren't fanboys and are just happy it's coming to XBO. I'm yet another side of the coin.
I understand you, I'm in a similar situation with Halo 4. I really hate that game, and only want to see anything related to Halo 4 bomb as hard as humanly possible. I let out my thoughts about it plenty of times. However you should realize that at one point that becomes nothing more than thread shitting.
Bloodborne is a Sony owned IP.
Just like every other Sony published games. So what?

From Software could've picked a different publisher and developed Bloorborne with their aid. It's not like Sony developed the IP, they practically bought it.

lol They dont get the full 60 from a 60 dollar game sale!!

So, the disc and packaging is free? gamestop and other retailers sell them for nothing? sony and Microsoft let games on their system for no royalties? and there is no import taxes to be paid in foreign countries lol

Fuck, I need to become a publisher

Hold on let me break down the revenue distribution of a $60 game.

Or fucking not.

If you don't think TR on PS4/PC/maybe PS3 would net that much or more.... lol

I'm just not seeing the argument against it. In my opinion, this generation needs more exclusives and not less

I agree, but there is a difference between founding an exclusive (meaning backing up financially the development of a game from the ground) and buying a time-exclusivity. MS did it right with Scalebound, founding the game for Platinum, buying a time exclusivity isn't the same.

I wonder why SE decided on this. Where did the Tomb Raider reboot sell better?

I was looking forward to this, I won't buy a new console for it. I doubt many others will. When it sells poorly I hope it doesn't affect future releases in the reboot series.

I personally don't have issues with MS for doing this. They're doing what they need to do to pad out their exclusives for 2015. I do have issues with Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics though. Especially with that Crystal Dynamics "Fuck You" letter to PC and PS owners. "Hey, you're not getting our big budget sequel, but you can still buy the original and a DL only spin off title to help fund development on the big budget sequel that you won't be getting!"

xbox has a boner for anythign with the word rise (ryse, son of rome, Dead RISing, Rise of the tomb raider). all of them were only timed tho. hopefully this game will rise to other platforms as well.

when does that timed exclusive on Dead Rising expire? feel like I have been waiting 8 years for that to come to PS3.

There have been a handful of times exclusives that came to 360 last gen (never owned a 360) that would eventually drop on PS3 ( mass effect 2, minecraft, ect. ). but when PS exclusives eventually launching on other platforms I was happy they were able to play these good games. let the ONE have it for a bit. I will have other great games in the meantime to play. it will probably be disocunted by then anyway, just like ME2

More IP's? What about Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, KI, scalebound, or even crackdown 3?

How many of those games do they own? KI, and Crackdown? I just think they could be more serious about making great games themselves. The quality and quantity is with Sony in my opinion. It doesn't need to be that way with their resources.

Can we change the title? This isn't timed. They fucked us.
They're not going to make it known it's timed only for a full game until suddenly one day "GUYS RISE OF THE TOMB RAIDER: DEFINITIVE EDITION COMING TO PS4/XB1/PC!!!"

Hell, I guess if they do THAT they can reasonably claim Rise of the Tomb Raider was forever a full on Xbox One exclusive. Just like Minecraft: Xbox One Edition is an Xbox One exclusive.

It seems to me that they're snagging up this game to have something comparable to go up against Uncharted 4 (which comes out maybe Holiday 2015 as well)?

The only thing that has been confirmed is that RoTR is coming exclusively to Xbone Holiday 2015. So it could mean that RoTR can become multiplatform in 2016 or later (best case scenario though)...

laugh my butt off if its some sort of "2 week exclusivity" but the contract forbids Square from saying anything about that fact.

if permanent: disgusting, the franchise will die outside of the US. Like 100k Units saled in EU in its lifetime? What are SE thinking?

if timed (e.g. 6 months): perfect to fill the summer-hole

Indeed, i don't know why you all blame microsoft for lack of new IP and exclusives, so far Xbox One has Dead Rising 3, Killer Instict, Ryse, Forza 5, Titanfall, and will have Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Scalebound, Crackdown 3 and now Tomb Raider.
Sony instead has just Killzone, Knack and Infamous on PS4 right now, with The Order, Driveclub and Bloodborn to come.

Cherry picking is such a lovely thing isn't it?

This is simple for me even if the Tomb raider comes to ps4. These devs will never see a dime of my money. I will most likely never buy a game from them again.

No no no, they were supposed to buy uncharted. Leave the OG on PS.

Not that it really bothers me, the last TR only resemblance to TR was the name and title character, the series has jumped the shark.

Everybody dumping on Tomb Raider 2013 needs to realize it's a widely beloved game with a very passionate fan base. Even if the 3.2 million people who rushed out and bought it in one month had zero overlap with the original fan base it's not fair to all of us who LOVED TR2013.

Because this would not be causing such a huge problem and be a PR catastrophe for the companies involved if there was not a huge, passionate, and loyal fan base who is very eager to see this new TR series grow and prosper. That's cool if people only like the classic TR games, but they exist already and you'll always have them. It's not just about you.

You still didn't answer my question completely. Why hate for MS when they publish SO or TF?
Reasonable people don't hate MS for SO, as the game wouldn't be made without them (Insomniac wanted to keep the IP while being funded). As for TF, people find it very hard to believe that EA couldn't find the funds to pay for a game from the CoD developers. That, combined with the game's transition from timed exclusive to fill exclusive so late in its development (which was also a complete surprise for the developers), leads people to believe the game was money hatted rather than co-developed.

While this deal already compensates Square directly from Microsoft because it is a paid timed-exclusive, it's quite comical to imagine what Square is going to say when it sells poorly on just one console, given that they thought 7mil sales of Tomb Raider was poor. Fucking LOL.

And some people just want to watch the world burn. Frankly I think your attitude is terrible. You want other people-fans of TR2013-to be inconvinenced because you didn't like the game. Assholery at its finest.

Well one thing CD is getting out of this is a shit ton of publicity. Had they released a multi-plat trailer they would have been just another bullet point. Now they own the stage.

For now they do but, the game is over a year away they have to maintain the level of publicity or it means nothing at all because people will get over it not launching on the PS4 and PC in 2015. Their are other games out there it just means people will spend their money on another game or wait until it launches on the system they want to play on.

I really don't know what Microsoft is thinking with paying for this timed exclusive (And we know it's timed, because if they'd paid out the megabucks for the forever exclusive, they'd be yelling it from the hilltops). Do they really think people are going to run out and buy an Xbone just to play TR2 4-6 months before it hits PC/PS4? This might apply to a very small, niche minority, but... most people are content to wait it out.

You still didn't answer my question completely. Why hate for MS when they publish SO or TF?

I thought the hate for SO was mostly due to Insomniac and people making fun of MS for moneyhatting.

The hate for Titanfall wasn't exactly because of Microsoft but because it was being pushed down our throats that it was the best game evar and you are totally missing out and this is the game of the generation, hyperbole after hyperbole after hyperbole, with a slight pinch of the on going MS moneyhat joke.

Now that you mention it, somehow from S-E and MS I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up the most literal coming exclusively holiday 2015 ever, where it literally just ends up meaning it's only exclusive during holiday 2015...

Meanwhile Sony was like, "yeah we'll tell you, Hellblade is only timed".

LOL 'we' and 'them'?

He went too far but more importantly the re-release of the remake sold like what 75% PS4? LOL S-E.

Hellblade and Bloodborne are considered first party games since Sony itself has published these games, but when MS publish Sunset Overdrive or Titanfall then there is a baclash among gamers. Why is that?

Hellblade was specifically stated in today's conference as a timed exclusive (as in not being kept off Xbox forever.)

Bloodborne is owned by Sony, and is being publish by SONY. If Bloodborne was actually Dark Souls 3, and not being published by Sony you might have a point.

Sunset Overdrive is being published by MS, hence funded by MS, no one feels like that game was taken away.

Titanfall was moneyhatted away from timed to full exclusivity, but signs point to MS funding the game so again not the same thing.

I'll ask again, show me a 3rd party series that has a history of releasing on both platforms (Sony/MS) that Sony has paid to keep away from Xbox only fans?

MS did the same shit with GTA IV DLC. They are slimy mann. Ice cold.

I would be upset, but I gives no shit for the new Tomb Raider franchise. I am content with the Osiris game releasing this year.

why would they buy 2 week exclusivity that makes no sense

2016 at the earliest
And they'll probably charge a full $60 too with some stupid MP DLC added on. I'll just wait for it to bomb and pick it up at a heavy discount from Greenmangaming a couple weeks later.

laugh my butt off if its some sort of "2 week exclusivity" but the contract forbids Square from saying anything about that fact.

Yep, thats what im thinking too. They are forbidden to disclose the timed exclusivity, otherwise MS would just burn money. MS hopes to lure some customers to their BOX next holiday, because they can again not deliver games on their own. Can´t see the xbox ever picking up saleswise but hey. Desperate times and stuff.

I asked Square Enix for more clarification and they said "What we’ve announced today is that Rise of the Tomb Raider, coming Holiday 2015, is exclusively on Xbox."

That makes it seem like it's NOT a timed exclusive. I asked them to clear this up and haven't heard back yet. Sure wish these companies would treat their fans with respect and talk like human beings instead of machines.

Same thing happened with GTA V not too long ago at E3. Rock* showed a console-exclusive trailer at Sony's Presser, and everyone was up and arms about it going multiplatform. Official trailer on their YT page confirmed that it was multiplaform after the fact.

Also Diablo III for the XBO. Sony paid them, I assume, to not mention the game even though it was being released.
