PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

The indies and remote play make Vita a great deal for me. I have used remote play more than enough to make up the cost. That is my opinion.

Since there are many indies on Vita, Sony should at least do a 10 in 1 physical cart game for it, just like during gameboy era, so there at least some shelf presence. but Sony gonna be Sony

I'm one who's usually optimistic about the Vita but SCE really doesn't care about showing it exists anymore, they've completely moved onto PS4. Couple of mentions, no proper show of software coming to it again after E3 (mentioned or montaged anyway)

Shahid on twitter's just making things worse by not understanding the problem wasn't so much the lack of software coming to Vita, but the complete lack of showing it at the conference.

I'm at least hoping for some new 3rd party software at TGS and i'm sure that will satisfy my Vita itch but i'm not expecting anything new on the Vita front from WWS there.

Why, when people prefer to buy those games digitally and retailers don't want anything to do with Vita?

People here need to accept that the Vita did what it did in the market place. The mainstream rejected it, "AAA" developers rejected. Small games and niche Japanese games found success on it. Enjoy what you get and stop being so grumpy about a gaming device.

Did Disgaea 3 ever got a promo? Besides being in the PS+, I mean. I'm planning on getting the series but I'm afraid about buying and then regretting like I did with FFX, which I bought at full price then soon it got discounted 50%, while I hadn't even started the game (huge backlog).

I suggest you read my history post and you will see that I'm one of the person who enjoy all kind of niche game available on Vita. And of course, many people prefer digital, but what about those who don't? All I did is just making suggestion, since many people scream there are no games or no presence for vita, there is nothing about being grumpy.

"Road Not Taken just out for Vita, brand new game, in Plus day 1."

why

From the same guy that brought you FF Type-0 on Vita.

Shahid is on a full on defensive on Twitter

Yes, it's definitely sad that a bunch of manchildren are giving Shahid shit when his team's done incredibly things to turn a dead platform into a great little gaming machine.

What makes it sad for me is that he is defending the wrong thing. Vita is getting some really great games. I don't think anyone is questioning that. But what I see people complaining about is the utmost lack of Vita mentions at the conference.

What good are great games if only hardcore Vita owners know about them? And imo the complains are deserved, since all it would have taken was a 2 minute trailer at the conference to spread the message.

If anything, people complaining at Shahid should instead target Sony.

That's what I mean. He doesn't really need to defend himself but people will still give him shit just because Sony didn't want anything to do with the Vita today.

It's funny, to me Shahid's "defense" is just proving what is annoying a lot of people about Vita. Yes, we like our PS4/Vita cross buy titles, heck we don't even mind if they're all indie. But all we're asking for is a couple of big exclusive games from any one of the awesome Sony-owned studios. Just one or two a year is all we need.
Until that happens, Vita gamers will keep being a little salty and Shahid will continue to face scrutiny

I know I'm asking in the PSN thread, but I'm looking at getting a new Vita for 175 (canadian!) with a 4 gb card, brand new. Should I search for better deals?

I'm looking at getting a vita to play a lot of those PS1/PS2 era games I missed out on. How big is the library for those games on the Vita?

Ah I finally get on GAF for the first time today. Well well well. Quite the fuckery of Vita today, huh? Now do you guys see what I meant when I said I was impressed with the Vita showing at E3? I said back then that I was surprised Sony even acknowledged the Vita's existence. They spent a couple minutes talking about it and I was shocked by that. Was not disappointed by that E3 showing.

Then Gamescom happened. AHAHAHAHAHAH. For some reason I expected a similar two minutes for Vita here too. Nothing. Literally nothing. Now I wasn't expecting any big announcements. All I expected was maybe an indie montage for Vita or just a Sony guy reminding people that Minecraft is coming out for it soon. Just a little mention of the thing or some sort of acknowledgement that the Vita exists. It turns out I got my E3 and Gamescom expectations the wrong way round.

To top it off we got a sequel to Tearaway.....ON THE FUCKING PS4. Oh my god what a kick in the balls. I'm used to Sony fucking the Vita over but this is just...wow.

Ok rant over. Feels better to get that off my chest. Just as I'm sure it feels better for Sony to do the same with Vita.

this. We could as well start baming each other for waiting for game X to be free on plus ;)

Edit: but it is not ours or Shahids fault that the Vita is where it is today, it's everyone elses fault.

Find a Borderlands bundle and sell the code on GAF. You could probably get $30 for it, and the bundle comes with an 8GB.

I'm having a pretty tough time finding that bundle around where I live. Have to do a lot of travelling to find a place that has that bundle in stock. But I'm still looking.

It's not a sequel, it's an expanded and reworked version of the vita game

It makes no sense why this shouldn't be also on Vita. The expansion could have been Vita TV compatible also with DS4.

Good price but the 4GB card is pretty much worthless and will have to be replaced really fast.

The Vita does not play PS2 games from the Store, only the PS3 does. There's a bunch of ports of PS2-era games on the Vita, but most of them are half-assed garbage. Well except Persona 4 Golden of course.

As for PS1 games, most of them work, baring a handful of them (the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, notably). Some of them need to be sideloaded from a PS3 though.

But of course if you buy a Vita, you should also look at its native games too (yes, despite Sony's best efforts to sabotage it, it has a bunch of really good games!)

You make a great point there :l; even though E3 sucked for Vita, at least we got some games announced there between indie games and Disney Infinity 2.0. Here.....not only did the Vita got nothing (though we did get a few cross-platform indie games like Papers Please and Sounds) but a Vita EXCLUSIVE was taken from the Platform and put on the PS4 XD! Granted, it is great Tearaway will be getting a much bigger user-base, so that could get more sales :D. Point still stands though, we are at the point Sony is LITERALLY taking Vita-only games and putting them on other consoles.....talk about a slap in the face X(.

Grabbed Pirate Warriors 2 and Tales of Symphonia (I keep typing Symphonica for some reason)

Nice sale.
Shame about the Vita though. SCE West really wants it dead.

I know that's what they said, but frankly it looks so different to the original that I feel way more comfortable calling it a sequel. Same story all new game is what I took from it.

I prefer to call it a rehash and salvage effort.

The player was the story, so I don't know the player will be as well implemented into the story, unless they require the PS4 camera... which will limit the potential consumer base and end up with nobody buying it again.

Seems pointless, and the game equivalent of a nice girl, with a heart of gold, becoming someone else in order to fit in with the cool kids that used to never give her the time of day.

I only watched the first hour of the conference but it seems I didn't miss anything Vita wise. Which is a shame but it's not as if I was expecting something.

So no disappointing here. At least I hope that if Gravity Rush is on PS4, it'd be on Vita too. Which I don't expect all that much.

On the moment they didn't announces LBP3 as a Ps4/3/Vita I assumed they weren't trying anymore. They had everything needed to get a port comfortably and relaunch the Vita/PSTV as a kid device. But they don't give a shit.

BTW if anyone wants to be angry at someone, Shahid is not the right person to direct your anger to. Dude is just in charge of bringing 3rd parties to the Vita, and he's already doing the best he can.

You should instead be angry at Shuhei Yoshida, who is president of 1st party development, ie. the guy who approved the decision to stop 1st party development on the Vita.

The saddest part is that you're probably right X(; the games solid horribly on Vita to the point that it lost Sony money....and I think the game didn't have the largest budget or team either, making that being the case all the more messed up :(.

The bolded is just right on the point there too X(. The game was perfect on Vita and while it is wonderful the game is getting a second home on PS4 (with a much higher chance at success), they are yanking a game that fit wonderfully on Vita and are trying to make it work around the PS4's features :l.

Shahid is the last person at Sony I'd be mad at. He's done and continues to do great things for Vita.

Wow, he really is "For the Players" huh X(. Shahid is a cool dude and is one of the reasons the Vita exploded as the indie platform it is now, so no one should be mad at the guy :D. If he and the Third Party Relations team didn't lure Indies on Vita....the system would have truely been a waste land even worse then the Wii U's first year (with almost nothing coming for months at a time until mid/late Auguest with Pikmin 3).

If Yoshida really cared about the gamers, he wouldn't just drop first party support for the Vita :(. If they.....I don't know MARKET the damn thing with realistic bundles (the Killzone and Tearaway ones never made it to NA while the Ratchet Collection one in EU also never made it here X(), advertisement, and some damn screen time during the conferences that show the system as its own platform then a fucking add-on for the PS4 X(.

.....Sorry :(, don't mean to be so bitter. The Vita could of had modest success if Sony just gave a shit about the platform....but they didn't and now we are with a case that they are pulling exclusives off PS Vita and planting them on PS4. I will really have a good laugh if Gravity Rush 2 is a PS4 exclusive and there is no PS Vita version XD!

I finally get to play Papers Please on Vita thanks to Shahid.
Now Yoshida...

I actually don't think Tearaway will do much better on PS4 than it did on Vita. I don't think the low Vita userbase was the problem as much as the type of game is was in the current market. The lack of people owning Vita's didn't help but it wasn't the only issue. I mean just look at Puppeteer on PS3. Fantastic platformer but it sold like shit. I just don't think there's much interest in those kind of new IP's at retail these days.

Thanks for the advice, shame about the PS2 games (guess I was misinformed, I was told by a store rep it played PS2 games, should have checked). I do have some Vita games I want to play (P4 Golden, Ys, Gravity Rush), but the main pull for me was to play those older games I missed.

Yeah I think it will be the new Puppeteer.

On the bright side, maybe Sony is trying to sell PS4 as much as possible to gain more profit which will be use to reinvest for Vita game ;)

sign, one can dream right?
