Gematsu has always been equal parts insider info and made up shit.

Speaking of clones and such... I wanna bring the attention back to Lucina, and the fact she started as an alternate costume for Marth. She also takes the mechanical differences to Marth from a character that had existed prior to Smash 4 (Roy).

So, what if Roy was an alternate costume for Lucina? Just add some fire particles on Lucina's sword, change the model up a bit and boom, you got one of the Melee veterans back, even with the same kind of mechanic that differentiated him from Marth in Melee. I think doing that and adding Dr. Mario as costume for Mario would be super sweet.

I know that. But those characters are/were popular targets for "well they're obviously gonna get cut" beforehand, and Lucas long before the Gematsu leak.

The instances where they aren't are fairly minor. Palutena is hugely gimped online, not entirely banned, but still severely nerfed in options.

The individual weight and height thing is probably just three weight classes the same as every game with minis, which has no reason as all why they wouldn't be on the character select screen. Miis won't be individual named in the game, the announcer will have to say something, so he'll say Mii Fighter because that's the character's name. The lack of a series logo has been explained by Sakurai already. They don't represent any specific Mii from any specific game, they're "smash miis" Having an icon comes with the understanding they represent that series, but these miis have no series to represent, thus the Smash Logo.

Nothing about Miis has been anything but a typical character. They lack alt colors, but can be customized with hats, which isn't a huge deal. And they aren't playable online so they can avoid hitler minis, it doesn't have to do with the nature of the character or custom moves, but their ability to represent anyone in a fight.

You haven't explained why they won't be on the CSS other than "it won't look right online" and yet your solution doesn't look right in every single other mode the game offers.

Not having them be on the main CSS is not treating them like characters and more like a bonus feature. Also, you've seen how crazy people are with customization being off the CSS.

The average person would look at donkey kong and diddy and no they represent the same franchise same with dixie, king k rool on the other hand is a big random lizard who hasn't been relevant for like 10 years, and when he was couldn't keep a consistent design to be memorable.

I wouldn't call Lucas "the big surprise cut" -- with Snake, Squirtle, and Ivysaur possibly gone, I don't see what makes Lucas so special. Objectively speaking, he's an obscure Japan-only character from an eight-year-old game. If Mewtwo, Roy, and others missed the jump from Melee to Brawl, then I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that Lucas might not be safe.
 
I heard from my uncle who works at Nintendo that neither Shulk nor the Chorus Kids will actually be playable in the game. Shulk is just a trophy and the Chorus Kids are an Assist Trophy.

R.O.B. and Wolf are also cut.

Lucina doesn't have roy's mechanics. Roy did more damage near the hilt of his blade while lucina apparently does the same ammount of damage from any part of the blade...unless I misunderstood your post lol.

And I've seen plenty of people say Ike was just a heavier Marth.

I mean, even in this very thread, the other day, we had someone say that Sheik getting that grenade special means that all that made Snake unique is now covered by her.

I know, but here's what I'm saying:

If it weren't for Gematsu, all donuts about those characters would be kept to a minimum. After Toon Link, Lucario, and Ike, most people would've just conceded.

Using the fact that the average person won't recognise a character as an argument against their inclusion isn't exactly a good reason.

Does the type of person who wouldn't know who K. Rool is know who Ike and Marth are? ROB and G&W? Ness and Lucas?

I don't think the bolded has anything to do with it. Melee cuts were either because of time restraints (Doc, Mewtwo, Roy), or because the character was no longer needed (Pichu, Young Link).

Lucas isn't leaving for any reason other than time constraints if you ask me. His normals differentiate him enough (as if his specials weren't already different enough) to keep him from being redundant. Especially if characters like Lucina are in.

Close enough mechanics. I remember Roy just not having the tipper and his damage being more spread out, but I haven't played Melee in like well over 5 years, and never really played Roy to begin with.
Point being, Lucina is closer to Roy than Marth, and it would make sense to give some Melee characters a shoutout by making them alts (or even palette swaps referencing them at least).

Marth and Ike are the main characters of their games (or at least one of the main characters, for Ike in Radiant Dawn
why does Micaiah get nothing
) while ROB and G&W are their own "series", unlike K. Rool who would be the 3rd rep of a series (and even loses out on that front to Dixie)

I know this is a joke but it's not over-the-top enough to fly as a junior. This is a great way to get banned, you have to be careful what you "claim."

I'm just saying that what the average person does and doesn't recognise shouldn't have a big impact on the game, most of the obscure characters are more interesting inclusions than the "expected" ones to me.

Truthfully she would technically be exactly inbetween marth and roy but whatever. I'd take roy back if given the chance :D
 
The fact that we're this close to release and have seen no sign of Ness or Lucas is a little worrying, IMO.

For franchises that have two or more characters, usually at least one of them is revealed earlier than this. Sakurai just doesn't seem to care about Mother this time around. =/

Let's take a trip back to brawl dojo days when lucas was revealed and many thought Ness had been replaced..only to find out ness was still in later lol.

I'm more shocked we haven't seen Wario or Meta Knight yet, really.

So I'm not too worried about Lucas just yet.

Well, Captain Falcon was not revealed before Brawl release.

There are characters that probably wont be revealed before launch

I know, but I'm saying that in the event of time constraints Lucas is probably high up on the chopping block. Even before their reveals, I knew Toon Link, Lucario, and Ike were probably safe, but I'm not nearly as confident about Lucas' chances.

I heard from my dad's uncle's skydiving instructor (who works for Disney which is in secret discussions to purchase the big N) that Lanky Kong is the last newcomer. The remainder of the veterans are cut and will be released as DLC alongside Goofy and Mace Windu.

Also why are we arguing about the legitimacy of Gematsu again?

Yeah but I don't think they're having much trouble with time, especially because they had the resources to separate Lucina from Marth since she was originally intended to be a alt.
