Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Ike looked like that because he was barely older than a teenager, if that, and he was the leader of a band of mercenaries because his father was murdered.

Him looking like a kid with the weight of the world on his shoulders then was sort of the point of his design.
But you think he should keep looking like that? The Radiance series spans years, of course he's gonna beef up.

I have no problem with him looking like that at the start.

What makes you so sure? Ike wields a fucking broadsword with one hand and all he does is talk about fighting for his friends. Didn't need to look like a neanderthal to do it either.

It's so fucking bad. It's just a hideous design.
He doesn't look like a neanderthal. You're just being silly now.

In PoR, yes. Isn't it understandable for his design to change considerably as his character develops? He's certainly no longer the same person he was at PoR's beginning at the epilogue of RD.

I wonder if they could still include PoR Ike as an alt, complete with his slender physique. Or would that be too difficult with hit-boxes, etc.

They're probably re-using the same animation rig from Brawl. If HFT and WFT could be built on the same frame, younger Ike might not cause too much trouble.

Oh... Ew.

Scrawny RPG heroes carrying gigantic weapons is a big N O in my book. RD Ike looks like what the leader of a mercenary group that just won a war should look like, a MAN.

I get what you're saying; it makes sense! After a war he'd definitely be more muscular. Personally though I'm not a huge fan of the look. Just not my type of guy, really. I'll still probably play as him, since he was fun to use in Brawl.

It takes a long time to upload photos that have a high enough resolution to see Ridley. Be patient.

Oh btw thought I'd get this off my chest: Had a dream the other night where they confirmed Snake would return in smash, joined by MGR Raiden with
Jack the Ripper
Blade mode as a final Smash.

...I really think I need to pick up a new copy of MGR.

two deserving candidates in one picture
This art is pretty cute. I'm a sucker for wide anime eyes though.

Rising is one of the most fun games of the last five years. Love it to pieces.

The Ike references are fairly tenuous - Greil's outfit, for example, bears no chromatic similarity to yellow Ike bar the cape, and the enemy / allied unit colours are so generic as to count as new. Sheik's colours were excusable for Brawl, but I was hoping for some more interesting choices now that she's seperate.

Well given the fact that the Fire Emblem series is entirely based on using units (both your own and allied ones) to fight enemy units, and you are seeing these colors whenever you actually y'know, play the game (except for PoR/RD), I think that dismissing them as "so generic to not count as references to games" is unfair. They are obviously clear references to the source material. That's what we were talking about, after all. And the red/green alts are as much of references to the source material as having Ike have a similar color to Greil's (even if not identical), or Marth having an alt that references the official art from one of the games, or Captain Falcon having one that references Jody Summers.

Ganondorf exemplifies my problem - he doesn't have many sources for references save maybe Nabooru, Demise, Aganhim or Phantom Ganon palettes, so the opportunity should have been taken to give us some memorable new palettes. Instead we got a sea of brown; though Old Manondorf was fairly good. Though even with characters like Rosalina where they have free reign to implement interesting colour choices, skintone and hair and eye colour barely changes between alts, if at all.

Well, to be fair, except for Nabooru and Agahnim, none of those characters existed before Brawl. :P And who knows the red armor might've been a very loose reference to Agahnim. And having a pink armor for Ganondorf in reference to Nabooru, idk. :P Smash 4 might get more distinctive color swaps from the recent games, though. I would be surprised if it didn't.

Superstitious Tinfoil Hat GAF, has there ever been a time when everyone was relentlessly wondering about PotD and it actually turned out good?

Also Ike was originally designed to look like he would be the younger brother of Hector (his character concept name was Paris). I do think some of that "little brother" stuff was lost when they made a story sequel to Path of Radiance, but I also didn't really think the best standalone Fire Emblem needed a story sequel.

There was the time it was really late and it ended up being about combo finishers for when you repeatedly hit A. I actually found that really cool.

Mecha-Hero Samurai is late from his work as Japan's premiere developer-themed mech pilot that is also a Samurai.

I'm going to miss my late night campfire chats in college :(

mashpotatooooooes Smaurai!

They don't even look *that* cute in their official art, no Awakening design choices in my Tellius games.

I was referring to the fanart posted BUT yea you can easily see the contrast in styles between Awakening and the Tellius games. Can you imagine seeing Titania in that Awakening artstyle? :o lol Though I love both styles now.
