Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

It was better when PotD could be meaningless because people just accepted them. When they started showing more and more info this thread went insane waiting for them.

Not even the Dojo thread was this bad.

Late updates are either fucking nothing or announce a Smash Direct or something else major. THERE IS NO IN BETWEEN.

So, "Yes! except when there isn't."

I guess I should have expected that as the answer. Another Direct would be cool though, one last big one focused on the 3DS version before it launches.

I dare you to find one way in which Nowi is anime.

See? Couldn't, could you?

Oh, I got this one!

It's the hair; real people don't have hair that ridiculous except little Orphan Annie.

...And now I will be working on filling out the rest of the cast for that.

Back to Smash; any word on if the firework cannon is back? haven't seen any.

Alrighty, another Emergency Smash Topic.

Say we get our second Wii U Zelda stage tonight. What do you want it to be?

My vote is for Dragon Roost Island or the final boss arena in Wind Waker.

It'll be both. pic of the day will be a fanart pic with sakurai riding ridely also announcing a direct and making clear that this fan art pic of ridely is no ways a confirmation of anything

Look

All of your stupid Fire Emblem characters are anime in some way or another. Yes, even that one you really, really like.

Either define your pejoratives better or find better ones.

I don't even like all that many Fire Emblem characters. :p
I can acknowledge and accept that Japanese-designed characters are going to be inherently anime most of the time, but there's anime, and then there's anime. Y'know what I mean?

i sometimes wonder if emcee ever feels slightly crushed when his attempts at authority are undermined by people telling him to join in with the madness
SmashGAF has two kinds of posters: People who post in the thread occasionally and almost exclusively about Smash Bros, and people who invest themselves in the thread because they just enjoy posting and talking. Those people don't see the thread as a place to talk about Smash Bros, they see it as a chat room vaguely themed around Smash Bros.

I would probably fall into the second group. At this point, I almost feel posting in the Smash Bros OT has reduced the quality of my posts in general because I'm so used to posting fast comments on what other people say here. Hell, it might even have negatively affected my ability to write patiently in general.

Submerged Hyrule Castle / Ganon's Tower would either be the best stage in the game or a borderline unplayable walkoff. There is no middle ground.

A water temple stage. Rising and falling water levels. Several layers of static platforms. Not a walkoff. Being submerged is not instant death, it simply makes movement sluggish.

The fun never ends.

Did Sakurai die?

I'd actually like to see one of the older 2D Zeldas represented with a stage this time around. In the history of Smash Bros, everything has been from OoT onward with the exception of Hyrule Temple, which is based on Zelda 2... not exactly people's favorite.

Something based on A Link To The Past with a dash of the Link Between Worlds artstyle punched up to HD would be really cool. If I had to pick? Hyrule Castle's roof. Not a remake of the 64 one, but a similar theme, except with occasional soldiers interfering and sometimes the stage takes place during a rainstorm.

I kinda would rather go with the Ghost Ship for this one; having the stage set in the ship while occasionally shifting to the deck a la Pirate Ship. Plus it would give us a horror themed stage for the Wii U, since 3DS should be taking Luigi's Mansion.

Sold, sounds good to me :)

Appear before me, Goat-Shaped Sakurai, ye worshiped by the witches of old Babylon, and to whom the Phoenicians offered children in idols of burning brass

you basically just made the argument that this thread should be community, something that everyone else for some reason doesn't want

Minimal armour is probably a thing you're going for when you're light cavalry sitting on a flying horse, just saying (also not even the worst Pegasus Rider design in the franchise).

I'm looking at most of Red Arremer's examples and I'm still not seeing 'over-designed'. Or rather we're using different standards because he complains about over-design when he's really just pointing out practical concerns (but the 'winged head dress = spears' thing is kind of a stretch). Because yes, there are very few FEA designs that are actually reasonable armour designs, but you can lack visual noise and still not be 100% accurate to combat standards or whatever.

Over-designed means that your design is bogged down by too many extraneous details that just buries the character under a bunch of unneeded noise and colour. Think, uh, Nomura Batman. Sumia doesn't look particularly practical, but she's not lost inside her own design. She has a recognizable profile and her armour and everything around her doesn't grab unwanted attention.

also it's pretty disingenuous to keep using the worst examples of DLC guest art, particularly when the majority of it is pretty consistently good
