WWE 2K15 First Footage and Gameplay changes

Are there any indie wrestling games? Even with primitive graphics or anything? I feel like we need a good indie wrestling game to really nail a wrestling system.

Also, why aren't there any wrestling games that put the focus on putting on a good show rather than winning? Let the winner be predetermined and let the game play like a co-op. Get scored at the end on cooperation and creativity.

There was going to be that Firepro inspired thing, but the developers seemed to be huge hack-frauds who disappointed a lot of Kickstarter backers.

12 days of IGN First exclusive and all we have to go by is 2 screenshots and a trailer, which is just the screenshots moving across the screen?

Don't want to complain about free service but this is absolutely pathetic of IGN (not that it's their fault for lack of content, it could be a publisher/developer issue)...

I agree, everybody seems to be bitching that it's not in the same vein as Smackdown vs Raw and on.

I am tired of those shitty gameplay mechanics that got worse and buggier with each installment.

I am glad they are trying something new, I am completely fine with something more slow paced and strategic, as long as they keep some hype and excitement and open endedness.

The problem is that a lot of the mechanics that are described in the IGN article have been attempted in previous Smackdown games. As much as this is an attempt at something new it's really rehashing old concepts.

Maybe with Visual Concept's help they finally have things working. Who knows. I will wait for gameplay before casting my final judgement but the article did make me a little hesitant for something I was initially very excited for.

Well, there's a guy up in Canada who's been crowd-funding his Aki-style project for years.

Wait a minute. I thought this was going to be playable at Gamescom to the public? Was it only behind closed doors? That trailer was a joke.

I'll give a try before calling it horrible

This is supposedly playable at Gamescom as well. Was hoping to hear something or see of screen footage this morning.

Is it actually on the showfloor?

Don't know about the show floor, but it's playable backstage for sure. One German site ran a competition where you could win a meet & greet with Big Show on Thursday, and you could also play the game with him.

Vince might delay it himself and wait til the royal rumble or wrestlemania to release it
Get it for $9.99 with WWE network subscription for 6 months plan
Do it Vince

Can we get royal rumble online 2K, and also make it easier to throw people out of the ring, 4-16 players B^)

lol 2 months away 0_o Del Rio probably got deleted from the game :'(

I'm not instantly wowed by what I read, but I'm sure it makes much more sense in motion.

I wouldn't be surprised if this gets delayed. We're so close and they still can't show anything.

By the end of the week we should see something.

Hopefully. It's playable at Summerfest.

Also, move animations change depending on which stamina tier you are on.

Now that sounds good. Hopefully weight detection for moves has been changed too, at the moment, it just has an alternative move which can be stupid sometimes. If it could have an alternative where momentum plays into it, it could be a good change. Like low momentum/start of the match: move is reversed. Medium momentum: Goes for move, when fails, goes to alternative move like can't suplex, so while he has him in that position, DDTs him. High momentum: Struggles, but hits it, with some limitations. Like not Rey suplexing Big Show, but someone like Cena hitting it would be OK.

Grappling has undergone another key change: the four intermediary grapple stances are gone. Once you’re out of the opening chain-wrestling phase, you just press or hold the grapple button along with a direction to launch right into a move. You can still do a basic headlock to set up rudimentary moves, and the returning limb targeting system, but your core grappling moves will come right from standing.

Is it just me or does this actually sound like how the N64 games worked?

Good catch. It's press or hold, so it does sound like it could be similar.

They need to bring back the two button reversals though. The current system is bullshit and nothing's been said about it.

The gameplay statement from IGN does scare me a little bit as I have enjoyed the system that has been in place with the more recent games. I really do not want a UFC-like title.

However, let's not forget the line from Game Informer that said that dialing phone numbers is more fun than the combat system in Ryse. IMO, Ryse was an amazing title and I personally loved the combat system in it.

Yup, with all the hate for Ryse I ended up liking how they handled combat. Good point.

Sim wrestling sounds good.
I don't think so. Pro wrestling itself isn't even a sim of actual wrestling, so why add shit like stamina bars and lockpicking collar elbow tie-ups and whatnot? Sounds both dumb and slow as fuck.

They still don't get it. All you have to do is copy AKI.

Don't have time to extract it from this youtube format but a series of tweets with from IGN about the gameplay. A few extra tidbits in there:

The three tiered stamina bar sounds great and how much stamina you can replenish seems to change based on what tier you are on. Also, move animations change depending on which stamina tier you are on.

Gosh the "just copy No Mercy" mentality is such a bore. The AKI engine was great for its time, but it also has plenty of flaws and annoying bits.

I'm excited about some innovation in a wrestling game for once.

If they're making it slower and bringing back stamina bars, perhaps they should add rest holds too. That way we can realistically have matches grind to a halt when the bigger guys need to catch their breath!

No, I'm sorry but I really don't like this idea of making the game more sim like. I didn't like the stamina meter back in the older games as it just killed the flow of the matches. IMHO the best wrestling game Yukes ever produced was Here Comes the Pain, a game that was fast, completely un-sim like, but was over the top crazy and fun. I appreciate the graphical upgrades but the gameplay sounds like it's going in the wrong direction for me.

This is why they need to revive the All Stars brand for people who don't want sim. At least allow people to toggle out some of the sim elements.

Personally, I want a sim.

Still no proper video? Is this game getting delayed? PEACE.

Nope. 2K is just historically really stingy with releasing media for their games. Hell, NBA 2K comes out three weeks sooner than this and we've only seen a tiny bit of in-game footage. It's just how they handle things.

They need to ditch the sim gameplay route and make the games batshit crazy.

-Hogan gets a 2nd health bar and becomes stronger after he Hulks Up
-Taker takes 1/3 damage of everyone else unless you attack Paul Bearer
-Ric Flair gets stronger the more he bleeds
-Macho Man's strength increases the closer an opponent gets to Miss Elizabeth

They need to make more games that take gimmicks seriously.

Last year 2k was pretty good but I don't know if they were working on THQ's old timetable for content release.

Bah. Didn't even realize nba2k15 was that close. Yeah. No media on that either. Thanks for the info. PEACE.

Day of Reckoning 2 had rest holds and they worked really well. You pushed the C stick in a direction during a submission hold and the person receiving it could guess and reverse it. you had rest to get your stamina back, taunt to build up some momentum, submit which made it easier to get them to tap and one other I completely forget.

EDIT: Drain was the 4th, which drained your opponents stamina.

There is off screen gameplay of nba 2k15 at operation sports from Gamescom.

Day of Reckoning 2 stamina system remains the best. If they just port that in I will be happy.

IMO, Day of Reckoning 2 is the model for a modern wrestling engine. I want it more than just copy-pasting the aki engine.

A kayfabe wrestling sim! I like it.

I want mid 90's Goldust

This game also NEEDS weight detection. IDK why it was ONLY limited to 2 matches last year in WM mode. They didn't even put it in for Bret vs Yoko in WM 9. The best use of weight detection has been in DoR 2, or bring back the classic system and just fix it up a bit so HBK can slam HHH. I don't want to use Bret and toss around Yoko and Andre

Vince from IGN says weight detection is in.

Apparently it's executed better than previous titles but I don't think he's actually seen it yet.

Exactly.

The visual aspects of the game look like a sim and have the TV presentation angle. But the actual wrestler mechanics are ridiculous, every wrestler is borderline broken, and there's a meta game with every person you fight.
