Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

I'm actually not super familiar with the Wario Land series. Is there a certain game in it that is sort of the it game? Like, where would Smash most likely draw from?

That's kind of the issue, there really isn't. Each one has its own setting and locales and enemies. Two and Three are the most similar, graphically at least, and the two of them end up looking radically different just because of the setting and style changes.

I was looking through smash community from miiverse. This post made me chuckle.

A Zelda stage!

I guess we still have a WWHD level for the Wii U Version...

What would make sense, unless they re-use Pirate Ship? I would love a level based off Windfall, just really peaceful and large.

Do people seriously think we're not getting a DK newcomer even though DKCR was massively successful, Tropical Freeze just came out, and both Dixie and K. Rool have been heavily requested? Don't let your hatred for the franchise cloud reality.

How in the blue Hell is there 12 OTs already? You fuckers need an intervention.

Luigi, Toon Link, and Lucina are clone characters, so I could see them being unlockable despite being shown...sort of weird to have clones and their base forms both starters, imo.

Where's Krystal?!

As far as I remember, Wario Land 3 has a very diverse set of stages you have to go through -- like forests, volcanoes, villages, mountains, etc.

There's a lot of content from which they could make a very open and creative stage.

I really want a stage based on the final battle in sunken Hyrule. Bridge of Eldin was a kinda dissapointing place to choose from of all TP locations.

I don't think K. Rool is gonna happen, but yeah, I can see Dixie.

Honestly, if there's another character Gematsu missed, I think Dark Pit, Dixie, Mewtwo, and Impa are the likeliest.

Ok. Now can you explain to us how chocolate cake compares to Smash? Of the three Smash Bros. games, which would chocolate cake be, and what qualities do you use to draw this comparison?

chocolate cake=Project M, favorite to favorite

easy

lol

So many questions O_O I didn't know there'd be an initiation test, I didn't study! Chocolate cake is like Smash...because it brings people together. and then makes people upset when Ness isn't on the cake or in the shape of a dragon.

The heavenly booty is delicious, like chocolate cake. So chocolate cake is like Smash 4.

Well, yeah, it was probably fake, but it was pretty held back compared to most rumors and seemed like a likely scenario.

More or less, replace Mewtwo with someone else or just Random, I could see this being true...

Sounds alright by me.

Well I did laugh when all those ROBs got blown up in SSE. That dorky sad look on their eyefaces, hahaha. Why didn't they run away? For robots, they're pretty stupid.
Oh no, my suppressed memories are all coming back to me now

*Neiteio falls to his knees in the rain as the theme from Platoon plays and a transparent ROB appears in the sky*

The only characters in DKCR that really mattered were Donkey and Diddy, who are already in the game, and Tropical Freeze is probably too new to have any impact on the roster. "Hatred" has nothing to do with it -- I actually like Donkey Kong, but I don't think it's realistic to expect a DK newcomer in the core game. Dixie has a good shot as DLC, though.

Has nothing to do with any sort of negative opinion on the series (I'd say DK's tied with Zelda as my favorite Nintendo IP) and more just being conservative lest I get let down. I think at this rate if FE can have four reps (not that it doesn't deserve it, but DK even now is the bigger franchise), DK could justify having a semi-clone via Dixie and K. Rool as a full newcomer, though more likely is just Dixie by herself at this rate.

I'm way more antsy over Metroid potentially still only having two versions of Samus representing it.

Jungle Beat was the only 'major' DK entry inbetween Melee and Brawl and had virtually nothing from DKC in it, but Diddy still got in. Dixie still regularly shows up in 'side' Mario/DK games, which is sort of what Diddy was cropping up mostly in when he got into Brawl. Doesn't guarantee anything, but it's not like Tropical Freeze was the first game to pull her out of Rare character limbo.

There's no good candidates though.

Dixie is generic sidekick #482, the only character like that we have atm is Falco, and he was put in as a clone. No way Dixie will get in as a full fledged newcomer.

K Rool is ugly and irrelevant.

How about Cranky Kong? He's appeared in every DKC to date. He was the only other Kong after DK and Diddy in Returns. Sakurai would've known they were planning him for Tropical Freeze, as well. Pogo bounce, denture toss... Ride on Rambi, recover with Squawks... He has potential.

I love Donkey Kong Country! I just think K. Rool is awful.

Apart from Shulk and Chorus Kids, I think the Gematsu Leak being "disproven" suggests that whatever characters left are going to be probably late bloomers like Lucina who won't be as original, so I wouldn't expect anyone with a seriously unique moveset.

How would you feel though if they made "Donkey Kong Sr.", though, aka Cranky Kong, a larger Donkey Kong clone with a design closer to the '94 version who trades in his Giant Punch for Barrel Throw?

Seems reasonable. Brief and to the point.

The way DK shows up in the Pac-Man trailer makes me think like the Zelda cast Sakurai still sort of sees the DKC DK as representing the arcade-line of games, even if they're not physically the same character. Cranky Kong with a FS where he 'hulks out' and becomes the original DK would be hilarious though.

*Uprising was a mild success at around 1.2 million (probably way off, but I know it was around a million), yet there are no plans (yet) to continue the Kid Icarus franchise

Second or third highest item count, seemingly 2 assist trophies, newcomer, series veteran's moveset gets redesigned to be more inline with it's most recent game, and one of it's main gimmicks reused in Smash 3DS

*DKCR is a multi million seller, high praise, handheld port also a good seller, sequel came out recently with high acclaim (no word no sales)

No new stage, main series vet finally gets an attack based of his series of games (despite being there since the first real installment of the franchise), second series vet still uses a move with the same appearance it had when it was used in the series for the first time despite having an update look, no new items (or any items really) from the series.

Man, I'm reading posts a few pages back, and its baffling how almost everyone thinks some of the characters already revealed are unlockables.

Sakurai...isn't going to show off anyone you have to unlock. There would be no point in that. Not even for third parties. He did that for Brawl's third parties but that was probably only because it was new and he was nervous with them or something.

Theres just no point in revealing a character that you have to unlock. Seriously, of all of these threads arguments, this is the most stupidest one. All characters on the site (AKA not G&W...yet...) are starters. Yes even Toon Link. Yes, even four FE reps, and lol at anyone saying Lucario or Greninja.

Sorry, just had to say that. Always get worked up when I see this argument...

Think about it like this: we have 39 characters so far. Assuming the full roster tops out at around 50, that means only 10 or so characters would be unlockable - and the starting roster would be a whopping 80% of the full roster. By comparison, Melee's starting roster was a little over half the full roster, and Brawl's was a little over 60% the size of the full roster. Add to that the fact that in all likelihood there are still more characters yet to be revealed, meaning that the great majority of the roster (or even the whole thing) will be revealed pre-launch. If you're right that Sakurai wouldn't reveal any unlockables, then either there will only be five or six unlockables out of a roster of 50, or there simply won't be any unlockables at all, and we'll start with the full roster.

I think it's more likely that whether a character is unlockable or not has nothing to do with whether they're revealed. I doubt there are going to be any truly "secret" characters - with the Internet, word will get out sooner or later, so why hide them? Why not reveal them all and give all the newcomers fancy trailers? The way I see it, several unlockables have already been revealed.

I like this one

That bottom left symbol - Alexandra Roivas confirmed? I'd like that. I'd like any Eternal Darkness representation.

I'd love that, but I'd prefer the name "Arcade Donkey Kong." Keep the pixel aesthetic and everything. It'd actually be quite fitting in this game, given the presence of other arcade kings like Pac-Man and Little Mac.

This is a really... weird complaint. Sakurai has his own Smash Bros. take on all of the characters. He shouldn't be forced to change the way Diddy's items look just because Retro decided to redesign them.

Not bad at all. Only RosaLuma, G&W, and a couple other long-ish names are any issue at all. Would probably be easier to see with the larger 3DS pixels too.

I loaded the image up on my 3DS XL and I agree that Rosalina, Zero Suit, G&W, and maybe a few others look a bit crushed but in all honesty it's not half bad.

Not really a complain, just pointing it out. My real issue is giving DK his roll now despite that being part of his moveset for years. Same thing with Link and just now getting his jump slash as an attack.

Not so fast, Eager McBeaver!

You may think Dixie is "generic," but she was actually planned by Sakurai to be playable in Brawl. We know this from leftover data. So at one point, Sakurai had functioning ideas for Dixie. He must've axed her for time.

If anything, I'd say that increases her chances, since Sakurai might not be starting from scratch. He'd just need to look to Retro's current project (Tropical Freeze, when Smash got under way), and know it's the right move.

If text size really is an issue, the 3DS could just omit the names from the CSS and only have the portraits. The names will show up on the touch screen, anyway, so it's not like excluding the names will confuse people.

Tiny Kong confirmed

Please, we all know who needs to get in from DK64...

Although I guess Diddy Kong's got his "he can stretch his arms out just for you" move now. I wonder if that's an intentional reference to Lanky.
