Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Inspired by other posters, here are my picks for Mega Man's customizable specials.

Those are good choices - I'd particularly like to see Skull Barrier and Search Snake. Though the fact Rush Jet would need a new animation makes it unlikely.

Wonder if the other Up Special'll involve Tango, Auto, or Eddie? My bet's on the Rush Jet, though.

Item-1 could be interesting, particularly if other players can stand on it. Maybe that should be a down-B, though (to reflect that it's placed below you?). Still a recovery option, however.

Beat is one of Megaman's Animal Friends.

Megaman is the diametric opposite of Sonic, isn't he? His friends ain't shitty.

Awesome update, glad they did it how we all expected it should work and not leaf shield/shocking leaf shield/piercing leaf shield or whatever.

Well by that logic... the opposite of alive is...

But anyways if they let us do customization for final smashes I'd like him to do this.

I'm personally hoping one of his B replacements is Rolling Cutter.

It's such an iconic ability for Mega Man, it would be nice to have. Plus the boomerang functionality represents a viable alternative to the eight way aiming that the metal blade has.

Shadow Blade boomerangs AND is multidirectional.

Oh man, we're coming up with our own custom move sets for Mega Man now that we know his custom specials come from other Robot Masters and characters? LET'S DO THIS.

Neutral B

Metal Blade: From Mega Man 2. Can be thrown in eight directions.
art_megaMan2-metalBlade.jpg

Shadow Blade: From Mega Man 3. Can be fired forward, up, or at up-diagonal angles, and boomerangs back to Mega Man. Faster rate of fire and less range than the Metal Blade.

Laser Trident: From Mega Man 9. Can only be fired straight forward, but pierces through walls and multiple opponents.
MM9-LaserTrident-Art.jpg

Side B

Crash Bomber: From Mega Man 2. Flies straight forward and sticks to the opponent on contact. Can be transferred to other characters. Explodes after a couple of seconds.
500px-MM2-CrashBomber-Art.jpg

Flash Bomb: From Mega Man 8. Flies straight forward and explodes into a ball of damaging fire upon contact; the explosion lingers for a second or two and can damage anyone who touches it.
flashbomb_shot.gif

Bubble Bomb: From Mega Man V for Game Boy. Fires a bomb above Mega Man that hovers along underneath any platform (or ceiling) it touches the bottom of.
250px-MMV-BobbleBomb-Art.jpg

Down B

Leaf Shield: From Mega Man 2. Can be fired forward after surrounding Mega Man. The more projectile damage it absorbs, the more damage it deals.
MM2-LeafShield-Art.jpg

Plant Barrier: From Mega Man 6. Not really sure what this will do since it doesn't exactly have any special characteristics in its own game. Maybe it can't be fired forward like the Leaf Shield, but it can sustain more damage/deal more hits when Mega Man is standing next to someone before disappearing?
MM6-PlantBarrier-Art.jpg

Water Shield: From Mega Man 10. Takes longer to set up than the others but is the most damaging shield (not counting the fully-powered Leaf Shield). Can be fired outward in a spiral pattern around Mega Man, but it does the most damage if Mega Man is standing next to an opponent and lets each individual water sphere hit them.

Up B

Rush Coil: Debuted in Mega Man 3. Rush appears underneath Mega Man and springs him upward for great vertical and decent horizontal recovery.
RushCoil.jpg

Beat: Debuted in Mega Man 5. Carries Mega Man a short distance before tiring out and dropping him. Probably has better horizontal recovery than Rush Coil but worse vertical recovery. Or maybe he's a one-time rescue from falling off the bottom of a stage each stock (but side, ceiling, star, and screen KOs can still kill you), like in Mega Man 7?
98px-Beat%26MegaMan.png

Wire Adapter: From Mega Man 4. Mega Man's very own tether recovery! Has a long reach and offers a very minor triple jump when it launches, but Mega Man's recovery fails altogether if he misses hitting the edge. Can do minor damage to and interrupt characters already hanging on the edge, but can also itself be interrupted by another damaging tether.

I'll admit the art is good, but I'm just so fucking sick and tired of the internet overusing the fuck out of every meme that gets popular.

Doge was a shit meme in the first place anyway, which doesn't help matters.

....I actually think the art is pretty awful actually. Awful in a beautiful way. And on the last page was the first time I'd ever seen it, so I'm confused.

Either way, that face. With the additional transparent face. Fuck yes. Fex.

Whoa, deja vu. Didn't you post this exact thing already? Also the wire is a sick idea; I didn't even think of it. It probably won't happen though since it seems like tether Up B's are gone.

This is my proposed custom moveset for Megaman. Hope some of them gets in:

Neutral Special
1st: Metal Blade

2nd: Rolling Cutter

Nah, my original post was a gut reaction to someone asking what other weapons/characters are available for them to use for custom specials.

This post is my own potential custom move set for Mega Man, with my own choices and such. And yeah, I thought the Wire Adapter was a pretty good idea myself when I thought of it - it would give Mega Man an optional tether recovery, and so few people even remember it ever existed! But yeah, that's a good point about up B tethers; I forgot that they appear to be gone. :/

i didn't know they put so much effort in these custom moves, thought it would just be "faster projectiles" or "freezes on touch".

Eh, I don't know if they're that much more than what you said.

Plant shield is pretty much just that except with a particle effect change (and some properties changed probably), but beat is pretty cool, they don't have to change any of megaman's animations to make that a recovery though.

And considering he doesn't go into special fall after his default up-b, I can't see it being that much of a change to spawn an NPC that carries him upwards for a set time and gives him increased horizontal movement speed instead of just giving him some set upwards momentum and limiting horizontal movement for a second or two.

That's what it looks like to me anyway, maybe if I tried to code it now it wouldn't work the way I thought it would, but at first glance that looks like the way I'd implement it anyway.

We've also seen a lot of similar stuff for other characters like the Storm Punch and Lunging Shield Breaker which change movement properties or spawn a different type of hitbox, so they have been putting effort in for a few characters, not just megaman.

Has it been confirmed that the modes we know of are the only modes in the game? I have been a fan of some of the more adventurey modes from the last two games, and I hope they return.

And no, Smash Run is not a valid replacement to those.

WiiU version will have an adventure mode. It is the superior version after all.

Dedede and Falco are anthropomorphic and functionally have arms. Tentacles or flexible appendages of any sort are cheating.

Ivysaur didn't use the tentacles to pick up stuff or in most of her attacks though did she?

I seem to recall swinging a beam sword with her mouth anyway.

Oh man, thinking about it Sonic should have the Insta-Shield from Sonic 3 as a custom alt for the homing attack and the Unleashed/Colors/Generations Boost as an alt for his side-B. I'd also say they should work in Tails for an alternate Up-B after seeing Beat, but it'd probably be far more work than it's worth.

They're used for Ivy's jabs, auto-spam attack, grabs and forward-smash.

But still, she doesn't use arms.

And how is it any different from how beat would probably work anyway? He'd end up using his mouth for items like Ivy and have wings that worked like Falcos most likely so it's not like his lack of arms brings something to the table.

Well I want the character on the premise that it would be a non-anthropomorphic bird
who's cooler than Megaman is
.

While he probably wouldn't be too far from the norm for a fighter either way, I like the novelty of a character that uses absolutely nothing but their feet and mouth.

If you wanted a character to only use their feet and mouth, you'd need a character that has absolutely nothing but feet and a mouth, if anything else is there that provides an easier route, they'll use that.

What you want is a Goomba or a Bulborb something.

I'm kind of wondering what Sonic's custom specials will be now. I'm going to laugh if they're just slight variants on the three different Spin Dash variants he already has as specials...

I can accept this provided that Goomba has a Paragoomba up-special.

Wouldn't be surprised if we got a tails recovery with the rest being fire and electric variants of the spindash lol.

Maybe the Homing Attack could have a Fire Shield element, or maybe his B Left/Right can be a Boost instead of another Spin Dash? They could even use Tails as part of his B Up.
