Phil Spencer: MS will spend money on marketing and developing Rise of the Tomb Raider

Did you need read the OP where he draws comparisons to DR3 which implies something different? Why do thing people are confused?
Because people don't read the article as pointed out by others before me. I'm not blaming corporate person A for not talking about corporate product b. It's dumb to expect that from a company, even if someone is doing it.

Again logical fallacy : Not needing help doesn't mean you can't have extra resources...
But OK you KNOW for fact, you probably know even better than Phill Spencer, so why even argue..

If you still believe anything that is said from any Microsoft representative after the last year, I don't know what to tell you. Stop being so gullible, I guess?

Me, on the other hand, I'll believe the posters will the proven track records and no built in requirement to obfuscate details because they have a horse in the race.

Again, if you believed what you say here, then you should never have responded to me. So far the only fact I said was that so far Microsoft has done nothing altruistic, that the game would have had a massive budget and would have released on multiple platforms without any of this happening. Nobody needed to step in for this game, nobody.

But what do you think Microsoft is going to do exactly with their money? You think they're going to pay for them to provide some extra levels or some shit? Some extra visual polish when it's stuck on the inferior technical platform AND is cross gen and therefore won't be able to do what it otherwise could have anyway? Some more cinematics? Some more multiplayer modes? What precisely do you think Microsoft is going to be adding to this mix other than the marketing dollars?

As people say this really might end up hurting more then it helps.

Sure SE/CD got some money out of this but what happens when TR sells maybe average to above average on X1. If it stays exclusive to X1 and the next TR comes out in say 2017, why would PS/PC users want anything to do with it?

MS isn't coming across to PC or PS players very well in this whole thing. Why the hell would I buy your console? Just so I can give you more reason to throw money at previous multi-plat games?
SE/CD Can only benefit from this deal. They received what was likely a nice chunk of money from Microsoft for the exclusivity deal and Microsoft is also going to help advertise and develop the game for them. They're still going to have a massive audience to buy the game between the Xbox 360/Xbox One, and people act like literally nobody is going to buy it now when that's simply not the case.
Not to mention I've no doubt PC gamer's will go out and buy it once it releases on PC. Sony gamer's were scorned when Titanfall was revealed as an Xbox exclusive but they're no doubt excited to go buy the sequel when it releases on the PS4. So assuming people won't buy it because they feel "Burned" or "Neglected" isn't the case. I'm sure the spite will pass long before the PC Version comes out and nobody will remember any of this PR FireStorm.

oh come on now, there is no way they cant get dev kits right away if they wanted espeically with they amount of attention the game is getting, + Phil Spencer met them

When did this happen? iirc the only time he said something was when he said he would look into things when the flood happened.

Edit -

Oh right I now thanks. Dayz was surprising given that it seemed they were talking to MS first about it.

"I'm not trying to be opaque about it"
This is exactly what he is begin.

I think that's the strategy ... be vague and leave people wondering.

What other platforms/When will not be answered ...

Another thing: There can be little doubt that MS views PS4 as their main competitor, with PC as a bit of an afterthought.

Spencer KNOWS that people KNOW this is a timed deal. If it wasn't coming to PS4 you'd be hearing things thrown around like "console exclusive".

Shit, if this is like Dead Rising 3 then I guess I won't wait for the ps4 version after all. Oh well, Xbox one version, here I come

All of this is really reminding me of the statements MS made for Titanfall back in 2013.

MS wanted it to look like an Xbox One exclusive but people all assumed that it would eventually come to Playstation too (timed exclusive) -- well, until MS paid money for it not to come out on Playstation back in October.

Just waiting for that Mehdi dicking waving now.

Ask Sony what kind of deal they have for No Mans Sky. They will do just the same.

Of course, all console manufacturers will only talk what's happening on their own system.

However.

That doesn't explain why Crystal Dynamics/Square Enix's mouth is sealed shut. Usually when a journalist asks the developers themselves we get a clarification of what is exclsuive/timed etc, not this bullshit.

I just find this whole thing hilarious...

People are mad because they want Phil Spencer to be straight with them so they can sleep well at night knowing they won't have to buy an xbox to play Tomb Raider.

So if they're helping promote and develop the game then this whole knee-jerk narrative about writing checks to block games isn't accurate.

Well only one thing seems very clear to me, and that is that this entire ordeal with RotTR is gonna flip-flop all over the place. We're not going to get a clear answer from anybody in the near future so I'm just going to try to avoid the nonsense I guess. I enjoyed the first game, but I don't see the need to stress over this disaster. Done caring about the game and what it is/is not exclusive to. I just wanna play some damn games.

Sunset overdrive 2 is coming to PS4. No question. I doubt The first game will leave Xbox platforms. Maybe a 360/PC port down the line.

No question? The fact that you have to confidently say whether or not a game is going to the PS4 would indicate that there is a question.

Rise of the Tomb Raider will probably be on the PS4 but I don't think SO2 will unless it bombs enough to make Microsoft not want to publish a sequel but not enough that a company like EA would swoop in and publish it for them.

You are aware of the concept of hush money, right? That's kind of what's happening here except it's the way okay kind of hush money. ;)

Actually this would highlight that even more, because as we already know, SquareEnix needed zero dollars to make this game a reality. And helping promote the game doesn't even at all damage the point about writing checks to block games. Tons of companies make co-marketing agreements without cutting off other gamers.

I'm not mad at all. This stuff is great. As usual, I'm having a big laugh at Microsoft's expense.

If Tomb Raider turns out to be better than Uncharted 4 I'll be terribly shocked. So yeah, let's roll M$ let's see who's the king of adventure games in this generation.

How I see it:

-It's a temporary timed deal(3-6months).
-After this time it gets released on PS4.
-The deal hinges on the fact that SE isn't allowed to even acknowledge the existence of a PS4 version until after the holidays.
-Everyone thinks it's Xbox only, and therefore buys XB1s to play it.
-If people know they can buy it a few months later on PS4 they'll wait and not buy XB1s
-MS is in full PR mode doing their best to keep people from knowing it'll be on PS4 shortly after launching on XB1.

MS will have to spend loads of money to do that, making this highly unlikely to happen.

Did people expect MS to announce TR exclusive 2015 and then tell you the Playstation release? Its just sad looking at the people who let themselves get personally offended by this stuff.

shiiit... if tomb raider turns out to be better than Remember Me I'll be shocked, based off the first game

Also, M$ = no go. It's MS or Microsoft.

Sounds like "The Rise of the Tomb Raider" will forever be exclusive to Xbox, but Square Enix is allowed to release "The Rise of the Tomb Raider GOTY Edition" (or a similar name) for other platforms after a while. For SE it actually isn't a bad deal at all, they probably get a lot of money from MS for (timed) exclusivity plus the revenue from the Xbox game sales themselves, but in addition they can re-release the game for the other platforms at full price at a time that it would be discounted already, if it had launched on every platform at the same time.

I dunno anymore, saying help develop implied stuff I'm not sure is even true. I just don't even know anymore. This entire situation is confusing as hell.

Ahem...

This. It's more just hilariously stupid at how bad they continue to be at their messaging. They just continue to stack up ill-will from gamers like Monsters did nightmares in Monsters Inc.

After reading last hours of Titanfall, I dont think the situations are remotely comparable.

Crystal Dynamics are not even remotely in the bad shape Respawn was in.

at his point I totally expect MS just to make another deal for full exclusivity. just to put this issue to bed. we'd probably be better off anyway, the less hate the better.

Probably 'helping develop' is just referring to the money they paid for exclusivity. What do you expect him to say about the amount of money they spend on this?

Thank you kind sir. Every time someone has the courage to use common sense in these threads it makes me smile.

Well, if they're actually helping with development (and not that "we're sending over engineers to make our version better" bullshit) that takes it somewhat out of the "moneyhatting" category, although one wonders how it came to this after being stated as multi-platform at original reveal.

Unfortunately that just redirects anger/annoyance/confusion to others involved, Square-Enix mostly. I can't imagine how huge a check they got, but it'll have to be enough to cover lack of PS4/PC sales for however long + the awful PR. Could they really not have anticipated this? They practically introduced the world to the modern era of all-third-parties-are-multi-platform.

If they'd have been honest about this from the beginning much could have been avoided. People would still have been annoyed but then the excuse of "it's just business" would have held a lot better than it does now after being revealed to everyone.
