She sucks. All of them suck with the exception of Takuya's and Koji's.

But there was an even worse level of sucking for the female character in Frontier compared to even the mild meh-ness of Palmon+evos, Biyomon+evos, Gatomon+evos, Hawkmon+evos, Renamon+evos (the best), and, jesus, even Lalamon and her evos.

Sad that Zephyrmon is probably the coolest out of any of those too.

At least every other female character got some sort of a character arc, to varying level of success. Zoe was just such an unnecessary character. Zephyrmon has a great design, but I don't think actually did anything of note. Besides the episode where Renamon was, what, angry that Zephymon was prettier than her? Maybe that was just the dub, but wow. C'mon. I get it's a show targeting young boys, but still. Rika is proof enough you can make a great female character.

Even Suzie in Tamers felt, at some level, more relevant than Zoe.

The only female characters that I liked were Ruki and Hikari. Mimi was good for those comical moments when she was young. The rest are very meh. Yoshino is the most boring one out of all of them.
Edit:

She is up there in my top 5 leads for sure.

I thought Magnadramon was Gatomon's mega form? Wasn't that in the Hurricane Touchdown movie?

Yeah, guess they decided to change it.
Really, though, pretty much any digimon can evolve to whatever in the games.
I mean for the longest time, pretty much the only water Mega was Plesiomon so he was the only possibility for Gomamon.
Then Vikemon was created as Shakkoumon's Mega, despite the fact his lore says hes the commander of Ikkakumon and Zudomon.
And so in that PSP game, Vikemon became Gomamon's final evo.

I agree. Only problems were Takuya and Kouji carrying the team at the end and Izumi's suffering of "Digimon Girl Syndrome". The mythology was cool, digivolving looked awesome, and KaiserGreymon is one of my faves.

Yeah, but it's only shown in a few episodes and has no real conclusion, which is disappointing as it was all Hikari had for an arc. She does practically nothing outside of those episodes. I think she likes photography or something.

Frontier was pretty awesome. I like the other series better but I don't think it was any worse than any of them. The theme song was great.

No problem. Who knows, you might like it more than I did. There are a couple episodes where Hikari is the focus.

Daisuke is redeemed by having Veemon and Ken. If he didn't, his character would fall as flat as Miyako.
Iori gets a pass for having an inkling of a character arc.

I'm being way too negative though. The first half is pretty enjoyable. It's the last half that kills it for me.

Not familiar with the japanese names so I can only assume Daisuke is Davis, in which case, yeah Veemon is essential to his character. Veemon is probably Agumon tier for me. I liked both parts, but the first part was a bit better.

RizeGreymon > MetalGreymon but WarGreymon > ShineGreymon

Shine Greymon is pretty cool...but I'd have to agree with this

I think the only series I haven't seen is Xros Wars. Is it worth a watch? I started the english dub but Taiki's voice was way too annoying. The clip with Omega Shoutmon had his Japanese VA which sounded a lot better, so I'll probably give it another shot. The only digimon series that isn't fresh in my head is Tamers so I may rewatch that too.

i think these are all the series

Adventure 01
Adventure 02
Tamers
Frontier
Data Squad
Fusion

Yeah, sorry. My most recent watch was in Japanese so I know those names better.

Daisuke = Davis
Miyako = Yolei (sp?)
Iori = Cody

Not quite as intuitive as first season. Yolei seems just as "weird" a name as Miyako.
There's no 01 in Adventure. The 02 refers to year 2002.
I can just imagine them thinking how clever they were with the name.
"It's the second season and it takes place in 2002!" *pats self on back*

And she was in a skirt the entire time too. (I know Mimi was in a dress, but goddamn that was more manageable than what Zoey was given).

Yeah I'm more familiar with the Japanese names as well.

Besides, some of the English names are weird. SlashAngemon -> SlushAngemon wut

Oh my God.

OH MY GOD THIS HAPPENED IN THE PSP GAME?!

WHY DID THEY NEVER TELL ANYBODY IN THE PRERELEASE NEWS CYCLE?!

Now I have to hunt it down!!

It's a great game, well worth buying. :)

Anyway, Around 140,000 roughly left on the site so... by Monday or so when it finishes maybe?

edit: Now it's just over 139,000... it's moving fast lol.

This is just awful. Why do the dubs do that? This reminds me of Yugioh when 4kids changed Osiris's (which fit the card status) card name to Slifer, an executive producer at 4KIDS. WTH.

One of my "favorite" dub changes is the digimentals to digi-eggs.

Confusing as digi-eggs already exist (as, you know, actual eggs) and some "digi-eggs" don't even look like eggs.

And it looks like the site is below 125,000. I hope whatever it is, that it's awesome.

"It's Digi-code!"
I love how Saban Entertainment tried to hide the show was Japanese but then gave up when they returned to the real world.

That's the one thing that will suck for this new series. Dubbing from Saban Brands. Xros Wars' dub was terrible. Well, from the two episodes I saw at least...

So I'm about to watch Tamers for the first time in the same setup I did for the first two seasons: ENG/JP in every episode on Netflix.

Apparently Brian Beacock voices the protagonist in the dub? He's not...exactly my favorite VA.

lol I guess

Yolei and Cody were pretty forgettable, but Armadillomon was the shit

how is digimental any better though? what does that even mean

Watching 02 and that
Cthulu/Dagomon wanting to bride Hikari
part sure was weird. It came and went so suddenly that I'm curious if it'll go anywhere.

Sidenote: l find the whole August 1st reunion thing pretty heart-warming. A nice friends' reunion to reminisce is a solid display of the old cast not taking the event of well...everything regarding the Digital World (and their bonding through it) for granted.

One of my biggest disappointments of 02 is how little Hikari and Takeru are utilized. They might as well not be there at the end. Episode 13 makes me sad to this day.

02 is not a good Digimon season (imo), but some aspects, like Ken, make it worth watching (again, imo).
The things I carry...

Edit: I should clarify that the Dark Ocean does get brought up again. It's not completely dropped...

That one is especially weird considering SlashAngemon had already appeared in American stuff before.

The Xros Wars dub changed Lilithmon to Laylamon. This is also weird as Lilithmon has appeared in American material before (the DS games for one).

Just finished watching. Interesting first episode, though I'm a little confused on certain concepts such as what exactly is a "Tamer" (and also why Takato just left his cards at the playground, lmao). I'm assuming the former at least will be explained eventually.

The dub script wasn't really that bad by Digimon standards; as in, it didn't make me want to retch every three minutes and Brian Beacock's performance was (mostly) tolerable. Though what was up with Davis's random narration at the end? lmao

I remember reading somewhere that a Tamer is a child that has a Digimon partner, but is not a chosen one (like Taichi and the crest holders).

Tamers dub is incredible. Everyone is perfectly cast and AFAIK it doesn't fuck with the original's tone at all. Plus Steve Blum wrote like half the episodes.

Oh, Davis narrates the show. Rika goes on to narrate Frontier, similarly.

I found it hilarious when I realized that the teacher in tamers was
voiced by the person who voices Kari. She even looks similar to what an adult version of Kari might look like imo.

I did read on the wikia some changes that may or may not make sense/be better chances with the dub but it's defo the least edited up until that point which is a good thing overall.

They asked Kari's VA to voice Takato's teacher because of Kari's wish to be a teacher in 02; a nice nod. She really puts in a good performance to boot. She's excellent in the episode where the Tamers
leave for the Digital World
.

So as a kid, did you think that the teacher was Hikari? That would have been confusing. Adventure and Tamers universes are separate, but connected through Ryo.

I only saw Tamers for the first time this year, so nope :P

I can see some kids thinking that, but those first few episodes are so clear about the previous Digimon shows existing as TV shows within the Tamers universe that I doubt it messed people up that much. Plus it's still present day, and the age gap between Kari and the teacher is like, what, 15 years at least?

I doubt many noticed the Ryo thing. He's only in one episode of Adventure 02, and it's a flashback to Ken's vague-ass past. His Tamers appearance is actually meaningful and fucking rad.

I'm still weirded out by the title. I'm used to Tai than Taichi, sounds like a stereotypical asian name attributed to an exercise regimen.

GuardiAngemon, I think

Don't forget this gem:

0u6m2FP.jpg

Citramon became a Bo-Bobobobobo reference so I give it free pass.

does anyone know when we will hear more news on this?

When this egg cracks. I think they made each rub count for 5, just to speed up the process.

He is such a cool character that ties the first 3 seasons together. Thats why I hope he shows up in the new show. And by the virtue of him showing up, Ken will also be involved. Win-win situation.

In regards to Ken's past, he is a chosen child (like Taichi and the rest) that saved the digiworld after the events of adventure 1 with Ryo by beating Millenniummon (he is the cause of the dark spores that made Ken go bat shit insane).

All this stuff wasn't very clear in the dub, IIRC. Like they purposefully avoiding mentioning anything relating to the Wonderswan games or something.

There were some fudged-up lines (mainly anything involving the little white Digimon...don't know his name atm), but I was surprised at how close the overall script was when compared to the first two seasons. If that's any indication of the future eps, I'll definitely take Blum over Nimoy.

And LOL I recognized right away that Kari's VA was the teacher.

Maybe not in the west but Ryo + Ken is shown together in the set of games that Ryo is a part of so Japanese fans probably figured out who was with Ken during the whole flashback episode with Ken (which from what I read also explains the whole dark spore thing in the game)

(most of this is taken from what I've read on the wiki since I've not even tried the wonderswan titles lol)

(edit: lol I see this was mentioned above, took too long to reply since I was playing Digimon World and had the reply tab open for the last 4 or so hours lol)

I didn't watch the JPN version but was the Ryo stuff clear in that version as well? If not then the dub probably had nothing to mention? Rather than purposely avoiding talking about it. But like I said, I've not watched 02 in Japanese yet so I don't know.

Ryo was never mentioned in JP 02, he was just there. The chosen children are also not mentioned in Tamers, that TV show thing is only in the US.

Weird. Like, there's an episode where Kenta straight-up says "Digimon Emperor" in the Tamers dub. Takato says "Digi-Armour Energise!" in episode 1.

Personally, I prefer that the dub stretches the "Digimon is a game" conceit to match the real-world phenomenon.

There's already a thing called Digi-Egg: it's the fucking thing that a Digimon hatches from

calling the Digimentals "Digi-Eggs" too is duuuumb

When I was a kid, I thought Davis was going to get another Digimon from the Digi-Egg of Friendship.
I should have figured out that Child level digimon don't hatch from eggs...
