Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

SSB4 Development -- Day XX

Artist: "Here's my design for Nightmare Wizard. Please sign your approval here, sir."

Sakurai: "Not so fast, Eager McBeaver"

Artist: "What is it?"

Sakurai: "...make this side of the chin... lower than the other..."

Artist: "But then it'll look like testicles"

Sakurai: "Exactly"

Hahaha..

But seriously, why the hell is one side of his chin sack lower than the other?
It's balls. If it were just a chin it wouldn't be so.

Some JP packaging.

Did brawl promo stuff have all the correct copyright stuff on it? Or was some stuff left off until the game came out? I guess reps from all copyrights were shown off before release, like Snake (Konami), Sonic (Sega), Lucas (APE), etc.

Also, did intelligent systems appear on the melee menu before you unlocked marth/roy, or only after? Did it appear at all in the US?

I mean, i guess they only have to show copyrights for what's in the display art, and not necessarily in the game itself, so it could still be anything.

This, it didn't help that most of the abilities in Kirby 64 sucked, there were like a handful of good ones and a sea of crap
Wait most were pretty fun and a lot of them had cool uses and applications such as the animal statues. Some were useless but I thought a lot of them were fun to use and had good applications. Id love for another kirby with expanded features and puzzles used to combine and make fun powerups

Oh dang, the Japanese packaging... it's really starting to happen.

Also, I really hate to say this, but I think this might be the final nail in the coffin for all you Snake believers: Brawl had its two third-party stars prominently displayed on the back of its box, and we can see here that Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man are being shown in their own area on the back of Smash 4's box. I really don't think it gets any clearer than that... sorry ya'll. :(

One other interesting thing I noticed is Captain Falcon being displayed on the box: since he's a rather recent reveal, maybe the case really is that the starting roster will include everyone we've had revealed so far on the site.

Yeah, I think I'll stop entertaining the possibility of Snake at this point. It already seemed unlikely just because it would've been a missed opportunity for marketing. But it really seems clear now that we're looking at three third-party characters: Sonic, Mega Man, and Pac-Man. No Snake, and the game is poorer for it, but ah well. We'll survive!

Still not a huge fan of kirby games, I get really bored playing them --- BUUUUUT --- in kirby 64 you can be a fridge (Ice + electricity). That alone is fantastic.

Combining copy abilities is something I really wish had stuck around in Kirby games. Mixing and matching abilities in 64, especially the first time when you didn't know what the result would be, was so much fun. The mixed abilities ran the gamut from bizarre (refrigerator) to useless (melting ice cube) to game-breaking (fireworks.)

Yoshi
20th Place

I know I'm late to the party, but Yass Yoshi!!!

Today's POTD reminded me of when I first played smash. I only bought it because it had Mario, Fox, Pikachu, and Yoshi. I had little to no idea who anyone else was. I remember thinking stuff like "Why did they include this Samus guy, he sucks!" and "Why did they rename Zelda as Link?" But smash introduced me to these characters and now Metroid and Zelda are two of my favorite series. Yet even after all these years I've never played a single Kirby game.

Do you guys have any similar experiences where Smash introduced you to a new series you now love?

Also recommend me some good Kirby games so I can rectify my mistake

Intelligent Systems? Paper Mario confirmed!

I know, I know, it's for FE -_- let me dream

Smash introduced me to Earthbound. I'd never heard of the series, but I liked Ness's moveset, and that encouraged me to check out his game. An excellent decision, I think (though I still need to get on Mother 3.)

As for Kirby games, Kirby's Dreamland 2 on the Gameboy is a classic - it's what got me into the series - but also try Kirby Superstar Ultra for the DS and Kirby Triple Deluxe for the 3DS. Kirby's Air Ride on GCN is unlike anything else in the series, but it's well worth playing, too.

Celebrating the removal of Snake is bizarre behavior I'll never understand

Or any character, for that matter -- even if it were a character I didn't care about, I'd be bummed on behalf of the people who really loved that character

Reports of Snake's death have been exaggerated:

The copyrights are only for characters confirmed playable up to now. It was the same with Brawl.

I think he's cut anyway, but the lack of a Konami copyright doesn't prove anything (and the same thing applies to Ness, Lucas, and Shulk.)

Besides, this is nothing new. I remember we went through this whole copyright deal just a few weeks ago.

I don't think this deconfirms Shulk. Unlike Intelligent Systems and HAL, Monolith Soft is a 1st party studio because they're owned by Nintendo. So a MS copyright for Shulk wouldn't be necessary.

It's that time again! FoTD!

x.X ...i-is... tha.. t... a yes... then.. ?

Looks like the mysterious fanficcer took PKRockin's idea of me being a class rep though :o
(Also, I wish my family was rich XD )

No, but the Snoop association probably stems from exposure to the most pimped out Gourmet Race ever.
I literally can't hear the original tune anymore without my mind super-imposing snoop's rhymes over it :s
