Pic of the day. Nightmare Wizard appears as an Assist Trophy! He will engulf the stage in darkness, and fighters will need to brawl blindly for a while. Look out for the effect before it goes dark, and play it to your advantage. Blinding and reversal effects even make the computer players mess up.
Nice

Kalos Pokemon League, Game Boy, N's Castle (I mean, we know of a couple things but don't even know what the layout is yet), Great Fox Assault, Pac-Land (at least, we don't know much).
I love how nonchalant Sakurai puts them without giving details. Gives us something to anticipate.

Haha, what did he do? I wasn't paying as much attention to this thread back then. I imagine he was upset that Skull Kid's not playable?

I think they're talking about the thread they opened when Skull Kid was revealed on Miiverse. The title was like "Skull Kid revealed for Smash Bros." and the OP started with "...as an assist trophy."

Nightmare yeeessssss!

His boss theme better be in the game now!

Ohhhhhhh. I think I do remember that, actually... yeah, that'll do it. Wonder what they were thinking.

Yoshi

Notable Appearences
Super Mario World (1990)
Mario Kart Series (1992-Present )
Yoshi’s Safari (1993)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (1995)
Yoshi’s Story (1997)
Mario Party Series (1998-Present )
Super Mario Sunshine (2002)
Yoshi Touch & Go (2005)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (2010)

Why did you leave out Island DS/3DS? Not the best yoshi games, but at least he starred in them. I'd argue they're better than Touch & Go, at least.

Other than my minor complaint, fantastic, FANTASTIC job, keep it up! Looking forward to seeing who didn't make the cut more than who did, honestly. Be very interesting.

Also, first thing I do every morning is to immediately open up picture of the day on my phone, and then go about my morning routine without reading the caption. Gives me time to think about what I actually saw in the tiny picture. I was totally hoping it was finally a kirby stage w/ a stage boss, but then it dawned on me that it was probably still on battlefield.

Sakurai, give kirby a home! He has no stage!

That moment when you realize you don't know what half the Pic of the Days are referring to.

I hope I never experience that moment. But though I play games on all platforms, I've definitely always gravitated heavily toward Nintendo... so I probably never will.

Guessing you're not familiar with the Nightmare Wizard? Go play Kirby's Adventure!

Nightmare Wizard or not, you'll thank me later. It's a classic.

I didn't know this character by name, but I recognized him as a Kirby character the moment I saw his art style and various motifs.

I only recently came to see Kirby games as "actually good" after Triple Deluxe held my attention and kept me legit entertained. Past Kirby titles always felt a bit light for my liking.

The pacing is impeccable in Triple Deluxe, and the playful sense of inventiveness keeps everything fresh and fun.

Are there more poll results? Oric, can you please link the previous results posts for each new character in the countdown?

Today's picture: it's a great character to see in the game, but if he just makes the screen go black I hate him.
Yeah, when I first saw the AT, I was hoping he'd swipe his claws across the stage from the background, while sniveling in a high-pitched Jay Leno voice

I really hope Nightmare (Metroid Fusion) is either an Adventure Mode boss or an Assist Trophy. He would be really suited to fucking up the dynamics of Smash platforming.

Wow, really? I highly recommend that you at least try Kirby Super Star and Kirby 64 if you haven't already. Both of them can get surprisingly intense, both thematically and in terms of difficulty.

Kirby's Adventure is still my favourite Kirby game.

The most recent Kirby I've played is 64.

I own Epic Yarn and Triple Deluxe though and will play them both shortly.

I quite liked Kirby 64 back in the day. I distinctly remember the double-edged lightsaber being a badass weapon. I wonder why they never brought back the ability to combine powers? Or maybe they did and it flew under my radar.

Haven't tried Super Star yet. I think a sibling of mine has the DS remake. Maybe I should ask to borrow it, assuming it's a decent port.

I also own Kirby's Epic Yarn and Return to Dreamland. They were decent, but I'd get a bit sleepy playing them.

Still not a huge fan of kirby games, I get really bored playing them --- BUUUUUT --- in kirby 64 you can be a fridge (Ice + electricity). That alone is fantastic.

The only Kirby game I've finished is Kirby's Adventure. Should I be ashamed, GAF?
I only beat Super Star. I've tried several Kirby games, but never been into any of them. I actually tried out Triple Deluxe but got really bored of it by the third world.

I really loved what I played of Canvas Curse and Air Ride, though. Wish I still had my copy of those.

His chin... One side hangs lower than the other.. hmm....

Okay, I can't see anything except balls now.

For Christmas a couple years back I got for my wife that Kirby special collection edition for Wii with a bunch games on one disc. I need to crack that bad boy open.

Combining powers was an excellent feature. I didn't think Kirby 64 played super well, but I loved just getting two powers to see what would happen. It should be in every Kirby.

How I read it at first. 0_o

But yeah, I kinda regret passing on that collection, and Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Mario All Stars (Wii). At the time I just scoffed at collections of games I already had... but now I wish I had them just to have.

Haha my bad. Yeah I was able to find the Trilogy collection earlier this year surprisingly.

man i've always really loved nightmare's design. like, why is he wearing shades. what wizard needs shades. and he looks so self satisfied about it too. what a cool dude.

But yeah, glad to see he's back. Probably one of my favorite Kirby antagonists.

I had no idea Nightmare even had shades, the Kirby's Adventure sprite always made the reflection lines on the glasses look like his eyes.

All the Kirby games are fantastic, if you're only going to play a few play

Kirby's Adventure OR Nightmare in dreamland (original and remake)
Kirby's Super Star OR Super Star Ultra (original and remake)
Kirby 64 Crystal Shards
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return to Dreamland

Time to play more Nintendo games.

Nintendo for me while I have owned all the consoles since the N64 has always been what I play the least. I've been trying to rectify that with the WiiU though.

Ive tried numerous Kirby games and the only ones I could get into were 64 and Canvas Curse. I wish they made more Kirby titles in the vein of 64. Perhaps expanded even more with the powerups and combinations.

SSB4 Development -- Day XX

Artist: "Here's my design for Nightmare Wizard. Please sign your approval here, sir."

Sakurai: "Not so fast, Eager McBeaver"

Artist: "What is it?"

Sakurai: "...make this side of the chin... lower than the other..."

Artist: "But then it'll look like testicles"

Sakurai: "Exactly"

All Kirby games fall somewhere between better-than-average and fantastic. It honestly is one of the few series I know I can buy each new game without knowing anything about it and I'll undoubtedly enjoy it. And they're always filled to the top with content: minigames, collectibles, boss rushes, alternate campaign modes, etc etc.

Triple Deluxe was fantastic.

Ohhhhhhh. I think I do remember that, actually... yeah, that'll do it. Wonder what they were thinking.

Eh, if I hadn't made it, someone else would have (people were already discussing it in the main thread). It was the first time anyone was banned for that, but certainly not the first time it was done. No regrets. But obviously lesson learned.

Did anyone else think of weird funk rap music when you saw the assist trophy today, like outkast and snoop start playing every time you summon him?

Yeah zroid, don't get banned for that again :P
