Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

So that's a Japanese person tweeting a leak of the English version of the game, since Ice Climbers is Ice Climber in Japan. That particular leak is definitely fake.

ESCAPE WHILE YOU CAN! SAVE THE CHILDREN!

A possible issue with this one...

Both Lucina and Shulk have the little leaf border thing. Pretty sure that's just reserved for the highest scoring player on the team, but I could be wrong.

I see the gameplay one is just fake.

"Hey guys, my favorite character is Duck Hunt."

No. Even if the character does get into the game somehow, it's not being called Duck Hunt. Duck Hunt Dog, Laughing Dog, Dog and Ducks... not fucking DUCK HUNT.

I'm still personally fond of "Duck Hound," but I don't think that will catch on.

The "gameplay" photo is

A) From GameFAQs
B) Inconsistent with the 4chan stuff

Why is it inconsistent? Well, it's because both screens were on top of each other because it's supposed to be direct feed from a 3DS - presumably video footage - and not photos from the 3DS itself. Here we only see one screen at a "From a 3DS" angle.

AKA the GameFAQs guy is sketchy as fuck.

You're right that's how it was in past games. Do we have any legit shots of Smash 4 team victory with only one leaf thing?

Guys, let's take a look at the ESRB Rating Process and ask ourselves why would they have a copy of the game.

Packaged or Boxed Video Games
Packaged or boxed games typically sold at retail are rated using a "Long Form" process whereby ESRB raters evaluate the content of each game in advance of its public release. In these cases the publisher must provide two key forms of content disclosure as their game is being finalized:
  1. a completed ESRB online questionnaire detailing the game's pertinent content, which essentially translates to anything that may factor into the game's rating. This includes not only the content itself (violence, sexual content, language, controlled substances, gambling, etc.), but other relevant factors such as context, reward systems and the degree of player control; and
  2. a DVD that captures all pertinent content, including typical gameplay, missions, and cutscenes, along with the most extreme instances of content across all relevant categories. Pertinent content that is not playable (i.e., "locked out") but will exist in the game code on the final game disc must also be disclosed.
Once checked to ensure that all pertinent content disclosed in the completed questionnaire is reflected in the DVD submitted, the DVD is reviewed by a group of at least three trained raters who collectively deliberate about what rating should be assigned. Once the raters reach consensus on the appropriate Rating Category and Content Descriptors, ESRB staff reviews the raters' recommendation and may conduct a parity review to maintain consistency in rating assignments. A Rating Summary is finalized shortly thereafter, providing additional detail about the key factors that contributed to the rating assignment, including specific examples of game content or attributes. The final rating is then issued to the publisher, which may either accept it as final or revise the game's content and resubmit it to the ESRB, at which time the process starts anew.

When a game is released or shortly thereafter, ESRB reviews the packaging (both interior and exterior) to make sure the rating is displayed accurately and in accordance with ESRB requirements. ESRB staff also play-tests a variety of games after they are released - including games that generate consumer inquiries to ESRB and those that receive broad consumer exposure - to verify that the content disclosure provided to ESRB was accurate and complete.

So the only theory here that works is this: Nintendo submitted their DVD with all required things needed to be shown, and they decided to name the profile that was used for this footage ESRB0083. Not only that, but the rating for this game has been out for a month already. Where were these leaks then? Did someone mosey into the DVD archive at the ESRB, snatch the DVD, and take these pictures just today?

That's a good question, actually. What will the community call him? Surely we're not going to refer him by his game, because then we'd be campaigning for Metroid, Donkey Kong Country and Rhythm Heaven as playable fighters in Smash 5.
Not really, but you know.

I say: Rex. Because when he's used, shit's gonna get wrecked.

I'm not. I get nothing out of these leaks. No Isaac, nor Ridley.

Surely something must be in this game for you either from past vets or newcomers. I didn't get Takamaru, but I'll always have Marth & Pit and Rosalina, Greninja and Palutena are great. Megaman and Robin too, but I'm iffy on the execution of their design.

Okay ya'll, here you go: the #TeamReal and #TeamFake lists as of now. This is just for fun, so please don't use these lists as a means of shaming and making fun of other people over a video game when this leak is eventually proven or disproven
even though I know that's exactly what many of you will do
.

Everyone on both lists is displayed in alphabetical order, since I couldn't be assed to figure out who joined which list in what order with all the flip-flopping going on.

Finally, if you want to be added to either list, let me know!
