I hate mimicuties. Most annoying enemy in KIU.

The keyword here is 'universe'. Sure, they play differently, but that is the case for some franchises that share the same universe as others. Manhunt and GTA evolved into two totally separate beasts, but do in fact share the same fictional universe. And like those, Nintendo was able to branch off some of those lines of games with different focuses, even if some of them bleed together like NSMB2's focus on coin collection being more of a Wario-themed game than a Mario-themed game.

For the sake of the subseries conversation, I think we have to abandon talk of separate "universes," otherwise we get into talks of Star Fox/F-Zero crossover, Link and Samus in Mario RPG, Samus's spaceship and Metroids in DKC, the Triforce on Pop Star, and Goombas and Wart on Koholint Island. It just spins out of control. We should just be able to say "Nintendo universe." That allows the discussion of subseries and franchises to remain on track.

Pic of the day. The treasure chests that appear in Smash Run are very important. Not only do they give you stat boosts, but they also give you custom parts (the bag on the right) and Smash Run powers (the bag on the left). You should pick these up and use them in the next battle!!

…However, watch out for Mimicuties disguised as treasure chests. Run away! RUN AWAY!!

smash 4 is just the sequel to kid icarus if you think about it

So now that we have our PotD and everything has calmed down, I think it's safe to say the "leak" is fake. That Duck Hunt Dog render is beautiful, though, and I'd love to see him in the game like that!

Wait. Wings, a hammer between two bags (which are random-boxed and wrenched), a fist, a treasure chest and a red blond-haired swordsman?

Dark Pit, Ice Climbers, a random WFT-esque pick (Chorus Kids), a technical mixed-bag character (Ness), a brawler (Wario), Ganondorf and Shulk confirmed?

Considering they have to be translated in multiple languages, etc. its unrealistic to expect a POTD to "respond" to a leak within 12 hours. That being said, I'm not particularly interested in seeing Smash Run updates anymore.

This screams fake if only because the ESRB doesn't actually receive copies of games. They are sent a video of the most objectionable or graphic parts of a game, and make their verdict based on that.

They don't get pre-release copies of anything.

Then wouldn't the photos actually corroborate that? They're not taken from a 3DS; there's no gap between the top and bottom screen. Gotta be from a video or picture.

EDIT: Not that I think it's real.

I normally don't complain about PoTDs, but I swear he already showed us this information during e3 or the April Direct that there would be treasure chests with power ups and Mimicuties were a part of Smash Run as well. Eh, C'est-la-vie

Y'all didn't really think the PotD would be a reaction to today's leak, did you? Sakurai either isn't aware of the leak or just doesn't care
because it's FAKE

The most important thing here is how good Link looks. The sheath against his tunic looks excellent.

Sakurai: "Some of you may have seen the leaks today. Anyway, here is a picture of a new alternate costume for Link! In Smash Run, different costumes have different powers. The red costume powers up characters in the desert region! It ads quite a bit of strategy Smash Run!"

Is smash run only local?

As much as I think I like custom moves, Mii fighters, smash run ect. If I can't use these things online (not just with friends) I wish they never wasted time with it and we could have these games already.

That's really stretching it. Wart's role in Link's Awakening is a small cameo, whereas DK, Wario, and Yoshi are recurrent fixtures in Mario games.
