PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | August 2014

Works really well. But I can't rebind the controls.. :()

Pretty pumped for SAO, although not too happy about that crappy translation.

Any impressions from those of you who got it? I'm pretty sold on the combat, but I want to know how heavy it is story-wise. The more the better.

I watched all S1 of the anime (I even don't think the second half of S1 sucks that much) and I'm watching S2 right now (far better if you ask me).

Oh @yosp..

We are pretty happy with games coming out on PS Vita and the games that are in the pipeline. PS Vita gamers are pretty core, dedicated gamers. They seek information, so we trust them to find out about the games coming out on PS Vita.

I like Yoshida and I'm also pretty happy with the games coming to Vita, but I can't help but feel offended by this daft comment of his. So according to him, the way to reward core, dedicated gamers that are the sole responsible for a platform's survival is to keep that platform in the dark and hidden from everyone else but said core gamers?

I really feel offended by that. I mean, am I overly sensitive? Because to me this clearly spells like: "Oh, Vita gamers? They're used to chasing for their games, so let's keep them chasing"

What kind of warped logic is that.

And the bs about not talking about Vita due to the conference's length: Sony could have dedicated 5 minutes to Vita and their conference would have still been shorter than MS's.

You're not being too sensitive, it's a really, really stupid comment to make :/

Ok I spent some time with The Last Tinker. People wanting a really good platformer should look elsewhere. For Tinker is a straight up low budget kids game. There's no jump button only an auto run button akin to what you'll find in Watch Dogs or Assassins Creed. And everything else from the basic fetch quests to the switch/button puzzles scream kid friendly. Maybe it gets harder later on but people are better off playing Knack, Puppeteer, or Ratchet.

Looks like rebuilding the database fixed my white bubble problem. It deleted the patch data for several games though. Also Phantom Breaker got an update and the icon is no longer that badly drawn picture of Cocoa anymore.

Darn. I watched a Let's Play style video of the PC version, and once I saw the auto jump I was a little let down. Then I jumped ahead to near the middle of the playlist and saw the game seemed to get a little more complex with painting enemies and combat, but still, yeah, the fetch quest stuff seems to get in the way of the real thing we're looking for: a great 3D platformer.

Japan getting those games:

Rogue Galaxy: Director's Cut (1234 yen): https://store.sonyentertainmentnetw...ズカット/cid=JP9000-NPJC00009_00-0000000000000000

Phantasy Star (864 yen): https://store.sonyentertainmentnetw...on-1/cid=JP0177-NPJD00057_00-0000000000000000

Phantasy Star II (864 yen): https://store.sonyentertainmentnetw...on-2/cid=JP0177-NPJD00058_00-0000000000000000

Elminage Gothic was also added to the PSP/Vita section. That should complete the series on J-PSN.

I would buy the shit out of physical Vita copies of those Phantasy Star games. I really, really would.

No jump button in a platformer is super disappointing. As a big 3D platformer fan I was hoping this would turn out good.

It looks like Pinball Arcade Vita does not support a portrait orientation mode.. why?!

I mistakenly bought a 'pro' upgrade pack, for $4.99, thinking I was just buying a pack with tables in it. Really wanted the Scared Stiff table.. I guess I'll just have to get the whole season now.
When you are just about to begin a game of pinball (just before you press START) rotate your Vita 90 degrees anti-clockwise. This sets and locks portrait mode for the subsequent game while you are playing. In portrait mode you use the corners of the screen to control the flippers and the left analogue stick for the plunger.

I think you are misreading what he means.

Events like E3 and Gamescom get massive media coverage, the kind that penetrates past even typical gaming sites and appeals to folks who don't even own these systems. You want to put the products out there that sell and draw attention - and unfortunately the Vita ain't it.

Like they could have spent 30 seconds talking about Freedom Wars on stage at Gamescom and announced a release date but what does that do for anyone? Instead you just post it in a blog update where most folks who own Vitas are going to see it anyway.

I've been thinking about picking up soul sacrifice delta. I played the demo for the first one and while I liked what I played it seemed to get stale kinda quick. What's different in delta?

Get the Delta, everything about you disliked in the first game of the demo - you'll come to love in the Delta.
In content wise, the delta offers waaayy more than original SS, and there's lots of gameplay balance also.

It expands upon the original, but it doesn't really attempt to change its DNA - if you got bored by SS you'll probably get bored by SSD just the same.

Define its DNA.

What makes it the game it is; the battle mechanics and controls, the focus on lengthy boss battles with dispersed minion battles here and there between, the lore-focused story that only really makes sense if you read the book, the offering system and the dark theme/mood.

If you didn't like those elements in the first game, you won't like them in Delta. This is coming from someone with nearly 200 hours into the two of them total and who enjoys them both immensely.

How many more new spells are there and is there any new wrinkles to the battle system. And how is the online community as well?

Not sure of the number but there are plenty of new and upgraded spells to play with, as well as completely new types of spell. The battle system seems a little easier than Soul Sacrifice to me, though if you were a ranged homing spell spammer in SS you won't be in SSD.

The online community used to be active, haven't had a chance to play recently.

"battle mechanics" what's that even? Did you know you dont just get replenish for sacrificing? What about combos? Seriously, if this isn't changing the way game is played then what is? Also I can take out a weapon and use heal magic without wasting my weapon. Offering system is not the same, you can't carry more than two types of same magics. Is grim not a new mechanic? Is update to combat not changing anything also? What about rumors - do they not change anything for you? Dead souls can attack and possess bodies? Still nothing changed?

They are lots of more spells, and you can do 'combos' (See end of post: http://neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=126018773&postcount=1245). The online community is not dead.

They could do more than a blog though. Vita would be perfect for a 'Sony direct' web approach, spending more time talking about the upcoming games but on a smaller scale and not needing to take up conference time.

I got bored of vanilla SS, failed to capture my attention at all even though I paid full price for it and really tried to like it. Picked up SS:D since I'd heard so many good things and spent hours and hours on it and love it.

Counterspy looks and feels a bit rough on Vita. Loading times are just a bit too long, resolution is not native which spoils the art, and texture resolution is very low despite the textures themselves being simple.

It just doesn't feel very polished.. why does the main menu have borders?

I look forward to trying out the PS4 version, and hopefully that's leagues better. The gameplay is very simple, but fun enough. The core gameplay with persistent defcons is actually kind of neat, and the missions are well paced.

So Sony doesn't care so much about Vita to not even will to make an almost PS1 level game to run well on Vita? A game that started as Vita Exclusive IIRC...

Or maybe reactions like this:

"I look forward to trying out the PS4 version, and hopefully that's leagues better"

are exactly what Sony wants?

A platformer that uses autojumping? My god, why did they make such and odd decision.

Nice. Hopefully they can upload the other PS2 Sony + Level-5 collabs too (Dark Cloud and Chronicle) and launch them everywhere.

Eww

What about that other 3d platformer?

Oliver & Spike looks so good...what a shame

50% off the 2 Danganronpa games on JPN PS+ is tempting as a lot of people here seem to rate the games. I know nothing about them, but they look like some kind of mystery solving whodunnit affairs. Worth a shot?

I would play Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 on Vita.. but Sooony

hmmm

where's the best place to buy FFXIV? is the upgrade thing still free?
Friend with a PS3 wants to play

What about the rest of the world? :(

I would play the heck of Dark Cloud and Dark Chronicles on a modern platform if I could. I'd use PCSX2 but my laptop has decided to stay at 85 degrees when I only have Microsoft Word opened and it switches off due to overheating when I open a HD video.

My retail copy DC copy is on a shelf gathering dust :(

CounterSpy is an "almost PS1 level game"? Your posts are parody right? Surely?

Thanks for the impressions. Guess i'll avoid it or pick it up for cheap if it goes on sale eventually.

Those are minor changes considering the fact that you could take someone who has played the first game and put them into pretty much any part of SSD and they aren't going to be asking you "what do I do?".

The core of the game is the same, if you're trying to argue that then there's no hope for you.

Is it just me or is the One Piece Unlimited World Red season pass price of $44.95 AUD just a little bit crazy?

Edit: BUY THE SWAPPER!
