Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

The least convincing part of this for me is the DLC list. 5 characters, 4 of which are returning? That hardly feels DLC-worthy. Especially with Snake in there. The screens are pretty convincing but if someone claims to be the leaker and says they did both the screens AND the dlc info, it kinda invalidates the whole thing to me.
DLC characters could be characters that weren't finished in time and will be added later, maybe even in the WiiU version. Snake, Lucas, and Wolf are low priority, while characters like Ice Climbers and Chorus Kids were complex, so took some time to figure out.

Not really since Sakurai said the 3DS version would stand on its own as a full Smash package. It's not a supplement to the Wii U version.

It has enough stages to stand on its own.

It has a few less than Melee, and a lot more than 64, and those two game stood just fine as Smash games.

Even with that small list of stages, it's still a complete Smash package.

We should have been more suspect when DK's classic mode stage was a retro stage. I didn't think it was an issue either at the time, but now I see why that was the case.

I can easily see the (possibly first batch?) of DLC being mostly returning characters, maybe they were pressed for time and couldn't add a lot of returning ones so they decided to add them as DLC later, they're always losing characters due to time constraints in smash.

Previous games have made a point to separate the old and new stages. We know the Sakurais are rather proud of menu design. The idea they decided to just throw them all together in a lazy fashion goes against what we know.

Well in Melee and Brawl, the Retro Stages never appeared in Classic Mode, did they?

yes, but people will disregard anything that contradicts their viewpoint

Yeah, that's not something that's ever happened in previous games, but with the space restrictions on a 3DS cart and the stage roster we're seeing here it makes sense.

That's basically the only reason why I hope this leak isn't legit, I want more stages.

No, they didn't (at least not in Brawl, I don't remember if any did in Melee it's been awhile since I played Classic Mode in that game).

Well, see, there's proof that the Retro Stages might not be seperate this time around...Jungle Japes Melee appears in Classic Mode.

That and why would the ESRB have a DLC list when rating the core product?

You worded it like you saw the 3DS version as a lesser product. I was addressing that.

Someone asked for clarification on which leaker said what:

leakers.jpg

Are we sure there's really 3 leakers? Or just one person post at three different time?

Eh, the stages are fine. There's enough variety, and each stage has its own FD variant anyway, so there's that.

They don't in Melee, either and they definitely don't in 64 lol.

Yeah I could definitely see old stages being mixed in with new ones like that.

Staying onboard the real train.

That and why would the ESRB have a DLC list when rating the core product?

If there's any existing code for those characters on the disc, even if it's unfinished, the ESRB has to be informed of it.

So if they've already decided who the DLC characters would be, and even just have audio files or portraits in the game's data, the ESRB would need to be informed.

They instituted this rule after the GTA Hot Coffee incident.

The amount of Stages in the 3DS Version is fine, imo, 34 isn't too bad for a portable, it's just I wish Sakurai would've gave each series a new stage at the very least.

The amount of Mario Stages is just 0.o though.

Miiverse loves Mimicutie. I gotta say, Mimicutie should has a large.... chest.

Leakers, Miiverse have spoken.

Do you guys know that you're all breaking the first and second rules of the Smash 4 leaks group?

Rules:
- You do not talk about Smash 4 Leaks publicly.
- You DO NOT talk about SMASH 4 LEAKS publicly.

But what about the alternate colors???

Anyway, I could see it going either way. The only compelling thing against these leaks is the ESRB thing which can easily be explained. Everything else that "proves" it to be fake comes from people desperately trying to give reasons why it can't be real.

I'm not sure what to make of it myself. The effort and general mixture of minute details and differences that could feasibly be from UI changes makes me think it's real, but at the same the ESRB issue and the lack of gameplay photos casts doubt.

why is there 5 characters in leaker #2s pic?

i don't get that

That's supposed to be the bottom part of the Title screen.

Honestly, aside from the out-of-order thing for the character select screen, it's also bothering me that there are no names on the character portraits.

5 players at the same time?

It would be a scrolling image of the characters you have unlocked... it's not an image of who is playing in the demo vids they have. At least, that's what I think it would be (and it would make sense to show that on the bottom screen for a title screen).

Actually, that makes sense because in Brawl at the end of the intro sequence everybody was staring off at the sunset on a cliff and it only showed characters there that you had unlocked -- more would appear when you had unlocked them.

This leaker never claimed to be an ESRB employee lol, that doesn't make any sense.

Like I said, people are reaching with these complaints.

i believe it's true but i'm not sure if i want it to be or not.

+ Dr. Mario back and Dark Pit are awesome even if clones
+ Duck Hunt dog looks amazing
+ Shulk is great
+ Bowser Jr is cool but I'm not sure about the Kart thing, hope his personality shines through anyway even if he can be swapped out
+ Everyone's getting back eventually via DLC

- DLC, i don't mind paying but i want them NOW not in the future and i would like more riskier characters for DLC and not just mostly vets.
- planned out DLC makes me think that they won't release more of them in the future
- Expected at least one more shocking character

In the DLC Post Leaker says "my friend might still stick around"

The Stage Selection Screen and the Scrolling Start Screen was posted in that thread and pretty close to the originals, I think they're from a second leaker, but gotta be real. I mean that Shulk render matches perfectly with the headshot.

Honestly, aside from the out-of-order thing for the character select screen, it's also bothering me that there are no names on the character portraits.

To be fair, having the names along with every portrait would look awful. The top screen is already incredibly cramped as it is. Do you really want the names limiting the available space even more?

Things are way too consistent between the 3 leaks..

Else they were created by the same guy/group and posted separately to look real..
else, they are indeed leaks

Here's my take *IF* this is real.

With this leak and the Gematsu leak there's a lot that can be put together. The Gematsu leaker is presumably someone from Namco (I think they mentioned this in a post) or someone that's involved in the early production and conceptualization of the reveal videos. Taking this into account with Sakurai's previous post about running low on the number of reveals he had left, I'd say that prior to the Robin/Lucina reveal, he probably had 3 trailers left; the FE characters, Shulk and Chorus Men. I'm still not sure if he was trolling with the whole Monolithsoft tweet or whether he changed his mind after speculation ran rampant and replaced them with the FE characters instead.

Anyways, knowing his knack for unlockables and surprises, I still firmly believe that he probably had some hidden characters in the 3DS version he had no intention of revealing until they were unlocked. From this roster, that would be Bowser Jr, Duck Hunt Dog, Dark Pit, and the return of Ness, G&W, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Wario, Jigglypuff, and Falco (some of those veterans may be revealed before the game releases).

So then what about the Chorus Men? Well, this had been leaked by the Gematsu leaker, so this may still be a trailer that he intended to release BETWEEN the 3DS and Wii U release showing a unique character for the Wii U. But Sakurai has stated that the 3DS and Wii U versions will have the same roster but he DIDN'T say that the entire roster would be revealed when the 3DS version would be released. Hence, the DLC characters (Snake, IC, Lucas, Chorus Men, Wolf), and a way to continue to build anticipation for the Wii U version... after all, a lot (definitely not all, but a lot) of the excitement will be gone when the 3DS version drops. Sakurai has said that the Wii U and 3DS version will connect in some way, so maybe if you connect the Wii U version with the 3DS, then you'll get the DLC for free otherwise you have to pay for it. I don't know... just speculating.

Anyways, this is how I'd see the timeline:

- One more reveal with Shulk and maybe a veteran or two prior to 3DS version coming out.
- 3DS version comes out, Duck Hunt Dog, Dark Pit, Bowser Jr. secret characters, and the rest of the veterans are unlockable.
- Trailer during direct between 3DS and Wii U highlighting details of the Wii U version, including trailer for Chorus Men.
- Wii U version comes out, Chorus Men, Snake, Wolf, Lucas and Ice Climbers hidden/unlockable characters.
- DLC for 3DS version free if linked to Wii U version; DLC characters flesh out the missing spaces in the 3DS roster.
- Ridley fans cry themselves to sleep.

*IF* this is real. :)
