Ninja in itself is not offensive. But when its clearly meant to be ni**a and its used in that very context I can see how people would not like it. That being said, I still believe people LOVE to find things to complain about.

Oh the horror. I can kinda understand the use of the actual n word could offend some people even when the intentions are innocent (see Jackie Chan in Rush Hour 1) due to the history of the word. But this is not that word (so the history is not there), and is still being used in a context of endearment.

Honestly, I had never heard of this usage until now, but I'm a 35 year old white guy who doesn't spend my time looking for ways to use code words, so that's maybe not so surprising.

To anyone who thinks this shouldn't be offensive, I don't think anyone is saying "never use the term ninja". If you're talking about ninjas, it's fine. That's not what happened here. He wanted to use "nigga", realized he'd get in trouble for it, so used this as a "cute" way of saying it. Sure, the word itself isn't offensive, but the obvious connotation is. We're obviously supposed to do the translation in our head.
