It's a trial. You can still get achievements, but they implemented that a couple months ago, I think.

You can get acheivments on a free trial? Thats really stupid. What if I try it and hate it? Im stuck with that shit list... I guess thats MS's trick, get you on the hook and now you gotta pay to play a shit game if you dont want a 1% on your list
