Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Is there a new Pikmin stage in the leak? Wasn't it just the Brawl one? And the boxing ring isn't a pure Punch Out stage.
I don't see why it matters if the Pikmin stage isn't new -- it's still a console-based stage in the handheld version, so Wii Fit shouldn't be ruled out. The boxing ring will most certainly have a Punch-Out!! logo, and Sakurai describes it as being from Punch-Out!! on the official site. Ignoring those two, there's still the Xenoblade stage... and the SNES F-Zero stage. Sakurai said most of the handheld stages are from handheld games, but not all of them. Wii Fit should be represented.

If there was a second page then I doubt the third-party stages would be on the first page.
Unless unlocking new stages causes the existing ones to shift in some way, whether that be scrolling down or being moved to an entirely new page. From a design standpoint that sounds really ugly, though. However, the 3DS menu looks poorly organized anyways so I can believe that there might be other places where the UI quality is lacking.

Can I join up? Even though I never used Pichu or Mewtwo or anything like that... I know people who love them and it seems like a shame to cut characters, at least keep them in un-changed, right?

And now Lucas might get cut, so it's personal :(

EDIT * Ooooh, double post... I'm a bad person.

My feelings towards characters in Smash, is if they were relevant and worthy of a roster spot x years ago, they're still worthy of a slot. Whether you're Pichu, Ivysaur, Snake, whatever.

I have always wanted Doc back in Smash. I have this weird thing where I don't really like Mario, but I love using alternates to Mario. I'm that guy who's happy when Metal Mario is in Mario Kart. It will be really nice to have Doc back, I missed him, just as I miss Pichu, Roy and Mewtwo and will miss Ivysaur and Squirtle. It's like getting an old friend back you hadn't seen in years and assumed had moved away and you'd probably never see again.

This "leak" is from a video of some kind (the two screens touch -- the game's not running on actual hardware), so I don't see why such a video would exist if it didn't have everything unlocked. It's presumably some kind of ratings board reel which would need to contain everything.

The stages and characters got moved around as stuff was unlocked in Brawl, didn't they? I could see that happening in this one too.

The stage icons could also get a bit smaller to fit more in while still being readable, I think. Assuming the character select screen scales from the E3 look to the leak's format as you unlock more characters.

I think the stage select layout is certainly consistent with how it looked at E3, but it's still kind of a bland design.

I wonder if friday will finally spare us from leak talk

Hahaha nope. I think Sakurai want us to squirming on our seats.

This one

Oh that. I don't believe that too since it sound too good to be true.

Isn't there still room for 1 more stage in that leak, if it turns out to be true?

Yep, maybe it'll come with the DLC.

So chances are it's

Shadow Moses Island (I think that's a better level for the WiiU honestly)
Icicle Mountain (lol no)
The Summit (Could be, I'd actually go with this one)
Some new Rhythm Haven level (I don't think it will be a new level though)

Are we sure F-Zero is SNES, and not GBA?

Great point. And you'd assume that it's less effort to update an existing character with newer graphics than it is to create ones from scratch.

How big would the roster be right now, if no one had ever been cut? Can you imagine like, Smash Bros X? It'd have hundreds!

Side note - I always liked Mario in Kart games but he's not viable as a serious character because he's just too slow, Metal Mario's great because he's still kinda Mario but he's heavy enough to have a chance.

The latter would be pretty badass, actually.

I think that would work better for Luigi.

It sounds too good to be true.

Indeed. I instantly dismiss leaks that I like because it's not worth setting up high expectations.

Are we sure F-Zero is SNES, and not GBA?

Maybe, but I doubt it. IIRC they were poorly received and contributed to the end of the franchise. Nintendo's only acknowledged them once since.

What?

Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Little Mac, Separated transformation characters, Lucina, Villager, Palutena, Pac-Man, Mii Fighter, and you're saying there are no surprises in the roster??

Not to mention Duck Hunt, Bowser Jr., and all the other potential madness suggested by the leaks.

Dude, what would surprise you, honestly?

I mean, surprises left. I feel they should have left some of the characters you mentioned to be revealed after the game launched.

Oh, that makes more sense.

If the leak is to be believed then Duck Hunt Dog and Bowser Jr. would probably all have been revealed after release, those would have been surprising, no?

"He just got lucky with a 1/100-ish chance. Yes, he simply made that gamble instead of using one of the rooms we've seen already. It's a complete non-issue."

You realize that that sounds completely ridiculous, right? The odds are way too small and no reasonable person would take the chance when we've already seen a possible room for that position. If this is a leak then they have already spent a lot of time working on the renders so why the fuck would they take a risk like that?
What? Rooms are random so even if the Famitsu scan showed a different room it would have no impact on the leak.

The fact you lot see it as more true because they used a room not previously seen is exactly why they did it. It wasn't a risk, it was the logical thing to do.

Wouldn't it be funny if it was Wario and his default outfit was his overalls rather than his Ware outfit like we've all assumed.

With the Famitsu room thing, it's like - yeah, it's entirely possible he took a shot and hit. But how many rooms are we expecting them to port, really? There's over a hundred in the game and I wouldn't expect more than a quarter of them to make it in. It's like Wii Fit Trainer for Gematsu (though not as extreme) - it's possible, but when you have a bunch of stuff that's merely "possible" piling up, with the line thickness and Brinstar and the room and so on... the most likely explanation is that it's a legitimate leak, I think.

Also - Dr. Mario's final smash would probably be Mario Finale, but electric. Which I don't mind, since Mario Finale always racks up the kills for me.

There might already be a RH stage in the base game. And if that last stage is DLC, what if it comes with the other DLC characters?

What you're saying would make sense if we didn't know for sure that the room is actually in the game, but it is. It's ridiculous to just write it off as a lucky guess.

Oh, that makes more sense.

Not that much, at least to me. I feel like, although both are well liked characters, neither is really groundbreaking. Before being announced, Duck Hunt Dog wasn't really being request a lot. And Bowser Jr., although being moderately requested, was also a plausible addition.

Now imagine if we only got to know Megaman was in after launch. Or if Ridley is in. Both scenarios would be much more hype, IMO.

Also, don't get me wrong, I love the roster. Rosalina and Megaman, specially. I'm just disappointed with the lack of big surprises.

The game feels so fleshed out and complete, but the "leaked" stage select screen worries me. That's an indefensibly terrible assortment. You'd think a game so rich in characters, items, and other bonuses would have a better variety of stages.

I'll grant you that. If the leak turns out true, it's easily the most disappointing thing about this game so far.

As well as potentially less sales. Sonic and Snake were confirmed early in Brawl because those are selling points. You want to advertise your biggest selling points and in a game full of blockbuster characters you gotta headline the most surprising and requested ones. Mega Man alone generated a ton of hype for this game at its debut, not announcing him that way could potentially effect people's interest.

Didn't Sakurai say that 3DS Stages = From Handheld games, and WiiU Stages = From Consoles games?

It might not excuse it, but it would at least explain the total absence of stages from Pikmin, WiiFit or similar console-only-so-far-series.
