As well as potentially less sales. Sonic and Snake were confirmed early in Brawl because those are selling points. You want to advertise your biggest selling points and in a game full of blockbuster characters you gotta headline the most surprising and requested ones. Mega Man alone generated a ton of hype for this game at its debut, not announcing him that way could potentially effect people's interest.

Yeah, that's true. It's always a balance of how many and which characters are revealed before and after the game releases. I didn't really expect them to left 3rd party characters unrevealed because, like you said, they are major selling points of the game. I just wish they did, for the sake of being surprised.

Cool, cool, I see what you're getting at. I don't really care about Ridley, but there's still part of me that's hoping for your guy's sake and for the inevitable GAF meltdown that he's somehow playable.

Although I like Ridley, he's far from my most hyped characters. I'm personally much more hyped for Isaac and Kumatora. So with all this "surprises" talk, there's also a lot of personal bias involved. For some people, Duck Hunt Dog might be the hypest character ever. But judging by the reactions to the possibility of him being included, it doesn't seem like a lot!

Agreed on this. There's other characters I would choose first, but I feel like Dr. Mario (and I'm saying this as a Mario/Dr. Mario main in Melee) should just be an alt. I also feel like Dark Pit should be an alt, but at least he's a completely different character. However, as long as both differentiate themselves from their sources, I'm fine with both.

If Dr. Mario is an alt, that means we get Dr. Luigi too, right? RIGHT?

I'd actually love the leaked roster if the DLC addendum is legitimate. Without those five characters (Ice Climbers, Lucas, Wolf, Snake, and Chorus Kids) then it's pretty terrible. Dr. Mario and Dark Pit making the cut over Wolf would haunt me for the rest of my days, and it wouldn't feel like Smash Bros. at this point without the Ice Climbers.

Even if it IS legit and the DLC point is correct, knowing how Nintendo does DLC we'll be getting them all like next year or something.

Even being reasonable, Toon Link is mostly on par with Lucas and Wolf and the idea that Link #2 is a priority hurts my heart. First post! Hello SmashGaf (I've been lurking for a while).

So I won't join a team for this leak, but I was wondering, if Sakurai said they were almost out of newcomer videos, then what are the chances that there would be DHD, Shulk and Bowser Jr all as newcomers? Is it that he'd put them all in the same video? Most of the videos have had some sort of theme, so he would have to have at least 3 to introduce these newcomers if he follows that pattern (not saying Sakurai follows a pattern).

And of course, doesn't that make it even more unlikely for the rumor with Dixie Kong, Mewtwo, etc. to be true? Just wanted to know what you guys thought about that.

I would consider only three videos left to be "running out". Dark Pit and Lucina have already shown up, and they could even fit Doc into one if they really wanted to.

I actually have to look at Mario and Doc like a parallel of Samus and Zero Suit Samus to prevent myself from getting caught up on his return. I never liked Doc because the idea of dressing up an existing character (read: self-contained identity) and giving he or she their own slot bothers me. But whatever, I'm glad people have a character back they like. I just hope that both Doc and Pittoo are more different from their source than Lucina is.

I think there might not be newcomer trailers for all the new characters, they could keep some secret for after release, or he could do a bonkers newcomer trailer that confirms lots of unrelated characters, the man is nuts! Falcon's return being tacked onto the Fire Emblem newcomers trailer was a little odd, you know?

Yea, I see what you mean. I actually would have preferred if they made a trailer where they went all out and showed like 4 or 5 newcomers at once, kind of like the trailer for Brawl...but maybe he knew SmashGaf couldn't handle Little Mac, Megaman, Palutena, Robin and Greninja all being in the same video.

I know some people prefer the slow trickle of characters, so I guess I'm okay with it. And I certainly do hope that some characters are kept secret, not like what happened with Mario Kart

At least Dr. Mario has a different outfit. As far as we know, Dark Pit looks to be nothing more than a recolor of Pit.

As for there being "absolutely no reason to think he couldn't be a 'clone and a half'" - if Lucina is any indication, then yes, there is some reason to think he'll be a straight clone. That's by no means a rock-solid reason, but it's more evidence than we have to support the idea that he's a "clone-and-a-half."

To be clear, I don't think Dark Pit's a terrible choice, but he does seem to me to be the most boring choice. I'd much rather have the Doc.

Even Lucas being gone kinda sucks, it's not they couldn't have added a few new moves to differentiate him from Ness. Anyone losing their slot to alternate costumes deserves a trial in court.

I'm guessing the 3DS wouldn't have been able to handle four Ice Climbers with items put on max on some crazy stage or something like that. Assuming the leak is true (I still think it is fake). Unless there has been a recent breakthrough that cemented it.

It would appear to be the only Kirby stage in the game, and I doubt Sakurai would choose to have a stage for most of the playable franchises but exclude a stage based on the Kirby series.

He uses plenty of weapons in Uprising that aren't the Upperdash Arm or Guardian Orbitars. His standard attacks probably wouldn't be much different, but there's a lot of room to give him unique specials.
