Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Hey guys! So Oric's character poll is fantastic and I bet I'm not the only one looking forward to each veteran reveal on that list; how about we have some avatar bets to make the ending to the list even more exciting? >=]

SkullHydra and I were going to have an avatar bet based on the top 5 characters in Oric's poll, but we're gonna make it open for anyone to join and let's make it for the top 10. Basically, you'll earn points for guessing the proper characters (2 points, let's say per character) and potentially more for their correct positions (1 point for 10th place, 2 for 9th, and so on until 10 points for 1st place). As demonstrated by Jiggly and Diddy, ties may occur in the poll. To keep things simple, no bonus points are given for ties (since that would mean more than 10 character guesses per participant) but the ties themselves offer a greater possibility for your characters to be picked!

How many victors will be decided on and how they will dish out new avatars will be dependent on how many participate, and we can discuss it as the contest proceeds.

If you want to participate, PM me your character picks and their positions in the format I specify with my picks below. You are free to post your choices up in the thread too for all to see, but I can't guarantee that I'll see them and add them to the spreadsheet I'm making for this.

Let's make the deadline for this the moment the Monday PotD is posted.

Also, we can do some fun stuff with the statistics, like I'll post a leaderboard after Oric posts his next reveal.

My pics (that will likely be wrong) are, in the format I'd like to specify:

10. Snake
9. Wolf
8. Ganondorf
7. Ness
6. Link
5. Zelda/Sheik
4. Marth
3. Mewtwo
2. Kirby
1. Captain Falcon

So, I sadly didn't beat Oric to the Pikapost.. But no matter, Pikachu and all the previous vets will be considered hints for the duration of the contest =]

Bumped in the name of avatar bets

Oh man, I love this idea! I'll PM you when I get home and maybe I can make some graphics to go along with it.

That would be great! I wouldn't know where to start with graphics haha

Better get your Nintendo History books out, because our next newcomer nomination is:

Fighter Hayabusa

Notable Appearences
Pro Wrestling (1986)

Bio
Fighter Hayabusa is a character from the Nintendo Entertainment System game Pro Wrestling. He is of Japanese descent who was born on September 18, 1951. He weighs 230 lb. and is six foot two. His special move is the Back Brain Kick. When Fighter Hayabusa performs the Back Brain Kick, he goes beside his opponent, jumps up and kicks them behind their head, knocking them down. Fighter Hayabusa is based on the Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki; not only do they look similar in appearance, but Hayabusa's Back Brain Kick is exactly the same move that Inoki performed that made him famous worldwide. Pro Wrestling is also noted for containing the phrase “A WINNER IS YOU” when a player wins a match, leading it to become an internet meme.

What NeoGAF Says

What do you guys think? We know Sakurai likes his retro characters, but would this be a good choice for a character revival? Would a true grapple character be fun in the context of Smash? Is a winner you?

Note: Unlike veterans, the newcomers being posted are not being revealed in order of most votes due to the amount of different choices; I'm just sharing the ones I find most interesting. However, for the last five newcomers, I will present those in order as the newcomers who got the most votes.

But how much of a fake the leak has to be? What if Bowser Jr. is in but Dog ain't? Still a fake? One point for #teamreal and one for #teamfake ?

what are the rules?

It should be a simple binary based off of the information that the leak itself contains.

If any of the characters or stages are disproven, team Fake wins.

That way it won't be like the Palutena leak where it ended in a stalemate.

If it isn't 100% accurate then #TeamFake wins. Note in this case "100% accurate" means all characters and stages that appeared in this leak appear in the final game using the renders & shots seen in the leak.

I'm more surprised a stalemate leak happened at all.

Even if the final roster is exactly the same as this leak, if the roster lay out is different or the character art is different then this is a fake leak based upon a real one (the smash boards one)

Is the avatar bet still the Uncle Jesse one? I'm all up for that.

For some people it is, but it should be a mandatory requirement for real vs fake.

I've bet my personal Jesse on the line, if its fake i'm changing to Uncle Joey while every other participating realer changes to Jesse.

I still think that Palutena "leak" was a fake. Ignoring how someone managed to leak only one of the game's characters, the character's face in those screens doesn't look like it matches up to the final version's.

I read on 4chan that somebody on the Project M team faked it, they posted the right pic.

We've gone back and forth on this in the past, but it's unverifiable. The image provided doesn't actually prove anything, it just raises more questions and is inconsistent.

I'm calling "nope" on that. At least for myself, #TeamReal is concerned with the initial screens and nothing else. We know the screens came from three different people now, and even I don't think those in-battle shots of Shulk and Ganondorf are legit. They look bogus as hell.

I'm on #TeamReal based on the first two sets of screens and nothing else.

The leak was fake but the character was really in the game so it's a weird situation for any bets involving it.

They could be fake, or they could be Palutena from an early point in development where her look wasn't finalized. Honestly unless someone comes out and admits its a fake and gives real evidence they made it, or if we get a behind the scenes/early concept art/models that match the leaked image we will never know the truth

No.

There are literally dozens of characters they could add. F-Zero GX was released in between Melee and Brawl, and yet the only thing he added was Sakurai Goroh as an Assist Trophy. Unless Sakurai works on a reboot of the franchise, F-Zero will always be treated like hot garbage. Absolutely tragic.

I didn't mean it as "F-Zero has bad characters who couldn't be in a fighting game" but when the game hasn't had a new installment since the Gamecube and its only really famous character is Captain Falcon...what's anyone expecting? I mean could he come up with a good moveset for Mr. EAD? Of course! But would he? On the large scale, would he? Falcon is the only guy who's ever been a really standout protagonist character.

It'd be like playable Koops from Paper Mario 2. Would be cool, would work, but...is he really someone you're gonna put in Smash Bros.? All the F-Zero characters but Falcon and Goroh are basically giant randos.

The "halo and wings" only appear behind Palutena while executing specials (and possibly other attacks) yet in that screenshot with Mario she has it despite standing idle.

The only thing that should confirm or deny the leak is the character renders. If the renders match, then it's real. If they don't, it's fake. Nothing else really matters.

I'm on #TeamReal based on the first two sets of screens and nothing else.

Considering that the 3rd leak featured a picture of the Shulk render looks too good of a quality to be clipped from the earlier leaks & a fuller image of the Ganondorf render, I find it hard to see a scenario where leak 3 isn't directly connected to leak 1 & 2.

Yep, even if the final roster is correct if the character renders aren't the same this leak is bogus, also if any of the cut characters show up playable or a newcomer is confirmed and at that also blows this up. Flip side if the next character has identical artwork, or we get a confirmation of one of the few new stages from the stage leak screen then this is real

There's still the possibility these screens aren't the fully unlocked roster, in the event of one of the characters rumored to be locked.

Will the wild fervor end tonight? Or will we be plunged deeper down the rabbit hole?

O____________________________________________O
It'll be about 2 weeks at least until we're out of the rabbit hole. Though we're most likely going through the looking glass tonight into leak-y weekend smash gaf.

Here's everything after today's updates; maybe it'll help any of you doing avatar bets over all this. Don't forget that some characters share positions in the poll! Check it:
