C-Stickers go home.

Go home BGBW, you're drunk

Thankfully none of the unlockables will require playing through Subspace Emissary thankfully.
That mode getting dropped wasn't even a loss.

I'm clearly in the minority
(minority is probably an understatement)
but I
liked
the SSE.

It was probably because of the cutscenes, but I played through it multiple times (to unlock things) without feeling bogged down.

I haven't played Awakening. What's noteworthy about it?

One of the biggest aspects was character pairing.
Which allowed you to have characters worked together and take up the same space.
If they worked together like this as the game progressed they would become far stronger together in battle. Also depending on which character was paired the two could later on have children that you could use in battle as well.

Aside from that there was the addition of casual mode which let you play the game without the fear of losing enemies.

Last part was the story which was a good starting point for newer players into the series.

I only played FE on the GBA ages ago so I can't say what was really different between the two.

So... Why is the idea of future games being like it a bad thing?

So... Why is the idea of future games being like it a bad thing?

For many older fans, the new art style, new casual frendly modes, easier overall difficulty, and perceived poor story or some combination of those were a disappointment. There was a lot of 'Don't turn my Fire Emblem into an animu waifu simulator!!' prior to release.

Awakening had a much simpler world building and main story than other recent titles. And the gameplay had some obvious balance problems (Nosferatu with no weight and unlimited tomes...). I think everything else it did more than makes up for that, but some people hate the game for that and think that if the series continues in Awakening's direction those elements can't be improved. I don't see any relation between most of what people liked about Awakening and those flaws though.

It's not like Awakening fans will complain and refuse to buy the next FE if it has longer main story scenes, brings back narration and has better gameplay balance...

The only things about Awakening that are not objectively better than the rest of the series are the simplicity of the map grids and the story. Fire Emblem is often a really dark war drama with themes that would accompany that plot. Awakening doesn't have that going for it.

What it DOES have, in addition to refined and improved mechanics that make it more fun to play, are extremely well developed characters. They're honestly the best that have ever been on a Nintendo machine. Few games have so many characters with such well written depth and personality, let alone a Nintendo game.

This is unfortunate though, because the story is so thinly sketched. They have little to so beyond talk to each other. Which is a joy, but no great accomplishment.

Speaking c stick my number 1 most wanted added feature to the game (gameplay wise) is to have an option where the c stick does the tilt moves, those are so frustrating to pull off when playing an actual match imo. This must be added, pls sakurai!

Agreed. I was just looking to see if there was an option to make smashes C-stick only. Anyway to separate tilts and smashes from each other is welcome.

Ok, today I just received my Japanese 3DS. I am done setting up the eshop and everything.

Now, I am in Eastern Time USA. The game comes out on Sept 13 over there, my guess is midnight. At what time would that be here in the East Coast?

Goddamnit every time I come to these smash threads and see that glorious OP my hype level goes through the roof.

Picking up a Wii U just for this game. Can't wait

September 12 at 11AM, I believe

Hey Ash, you asked for a roster mockup. The one Weiner Whistler and I made early August was based on the original Smashboards rumor, which wound up matching up with the leak, so it should be close, although it doesn't include Snake:

Well, back to cleaning up my place for tonight's party, dinner and a movie (going to see Guardians of the Galaxy). Then off to Cedar Point tomorrow. :-)

Eh, the main weakness of fire emblem though was that it tried to be a gritty war drama when gameplay restrictions made it a boring kiddy fantasy story. I liked Awakening because it actually tried to do something different, so it doesn't just come across as Lord of the Rings Lite.

Mobile once again, so going to be brief.
From a gameplay standpoint the game just wasn't very good for me.

This FE had the worst map design in the series. Vast open levels with little thought put behind them. Likely a result of the game having to account for one being able to change your unit's classes. On top of that there was almost no variety in mission objectives.

The pair-up mechanic is really interesting at first... until you realize there's never a reason NOT to pair up. I thought having to chose between versatily (more units) vs fewer, but stronger units would have made for really great design, but that wasn't present either.

I liked how the game handled the avatar and skill trees, but tge design philosophies need some good fixing.

I use the C-stick because I don't like limiting myself. If it was gone I wouldn't mind.

Why all the C-Stick hate? It enables strategies that are otherwise impossible with the normal way of doing Smash Attacks.

never understood c-stick players. Shit does not feel satisfying at allll

From what I understand, it's main benefit is that if you're in the air and facing left, put the c-stick right makes you do your back aerial. Additionally, it can make you do a down aerial without pressing down to make you fall faster

True in that it doesn't feel satisfying though

Man, this thread is nearly halfway over 0.0

If these OT's follow suit to Final Fantasy, then OT 14 will be the last one because, let's face it, FFXV will never come out X]

People take the "C-Stickers go home" thing seriously?

There like a million different "IF YOU DO THIS, I HATE YOU" things in the Smash Bros community.

Item rules, stage rules, control rules, controller types, character restriction rules, you name it and people will murder one another over it because they only accept The One True Way Of Playing Smash Bros.

It's pretty silly. I think, if it's in the game, people should be able to use it. If a group of players insists on disabling something or having house rules within their group, that's fine. But when you start forcing your rules onto other people and insisting it 'makes the game better if you play this way', that's when people are going to start arguing.

So even jokingly suggesting not using the C-Stick being the 'true way to play' or whatever is going to set a bunch of people off.

Smash Bros is the world's most successful argument-centric metagame based on a video game.
