Lol, I guess I can relate to that. I've been that guy before. I'd always want my opponents to play their best, but I also wanted to win. If either didn't happen I would rage a little. I just had to learn to stop caring so much about it... then I found I actually improved more if I went back to having fun with the game.
But I hope you find some more hidden Smash community around you. From my experience Smashers are generally pretty cool.

There has to be a limit on how shitty the avatar is if it's for 30 years

Bet you the loser changes it after around a year or two, whenever they mostly stop interacting with Smash Gaf and everyone forgets.
The pressure of crafting that avatar is going to be huge on the winner.
New astronomical levels of crazy existing doesn't negate normal level insanity.

I wonder if Sakurai will ever stop with the song and dance where he'll say he wants to back off of Smash but gets suckered into making a new one anyway.

Oh! It was that recent? For some reason I was thinking that he said that pretty close to the reveal of Smash 4. This thread has distorted my perception of time, I guess :S
Is there a way we can force a user into an avatar? I've seen people around with avatars before that say "I don't know how to make an avatar so now I can't change it" or something. So it seems possible to lock them in. That, or make a tag saying that the avatar has to be whatever.

Even if he said it at the first Smash 4 reveal, that would have only been just over a year ago.
'Leak' discussion + 3 weeks til release will do that, I suppose.
Honestly, I didn't think we'd make it to 15 before launch... now i'm betting on 20.

I don't have many feelings about it, but I will say this. If it was meant to balance the game (or to give the person who's losing a chance to come back), it fails at that most of the time in my experience. The person who's winning (or better) is most likely to get it, so I feel like it just gives them an advantage. I usually end up sneaking a hit in with a projectile, and then everyone rages because they don't know how I got the smash ball from so far.
That's just my experience, what do you guys think?

I think it's a cool concept, but usually turn it off. Some characters are much better at getting the Smash Ball, and some character's Final Smashes aren't any good. Sonic's Final Smash is so good. Luna's is crap. It's not very balanced.
This might have been brought up already, but Peach is shown using her golf club for the first time in Nintendo Dream. We'd previously only seen the tennis racket. Some people assumed that the golf club and frying pan were taken out to remove randomness from the game, but that doesn't appear to be the case, fortunately.
I like it but some of the final smashes are either too good or god awful. For example, Peach's FS.

Apparently he doesn't go through with bets he loses so it's kind of pointless.
I think it's a neat idea that's flawed in execution. It's a good way to keep there from being multiple final smashes on the field, which was apparently the biggest point of its design. Since it's not just a standard item it doesn't immediately reward the first person who can reach it as it flies around, it (technically) gives everyone a chance at it.
But of course since not every character is created equal it's got its share of issues. Some characters are much better at reaching it, and among those there's a few who can break it in 2 to 3 hits, which can be totally unfair when it's also a character with a really centralizing final smash.

I like what it does to fights, as long as it only shows up once or twice per match. People scrambling to get it and prevent others from using it makes everyone play very aggressively, which is something the game absolutely needs. It's too easy to play cautiously and defensively, so this stuff gets you out there and putting yourself in danger.
The Final Smash moves themselves range from OP to useless, and I don't think they should be considered a factor in a character's overall balance (the FS attacks themselves should all follow roughly the same ratio of 'effectiveness':'difficult to use') but some are pretty cool to see and they can provide for some great comebacks during matches where everything is going poorly for you.

Crazy that we are almost at 10k post, and I thought it would be the last thread before the Japanese release.
But I guess with the release so close now, speculations, fakes and leaks will increase.
I feel like we'll get something this week that confirms/denies the leak. Well, more like I'm hoping we do. All it would take would be a newcomer trailer for anyone in the leak, or a veteran reveal for anyone in the leak to confirm it.
I don't think a stage from the leak would confirm it unless it looks identical to one of the unreleased stages pictures. Even magicant, for example, could be chalked up to a lucky guess if it doesn't match the picture exactly.

Sah, for your own sake, I sincerely hope you never set foot in a casino. The dealer will have you going all in on your first round.
If Magicant is in I will believe the leak 100%, that would be way too hard to guess.
(Especially since a Mother 3-specific stage was probably everyone's guess before the leak)

What's the consensus on that stage select screen being final at this point? Would a totally new one tip the scales in any way?

Basically this, although it should spend more time near the ground (make it gravitate towards walls and floors) because some character do better in the air or have moves that make it easy to get (as if Pikachu's down-B was as annoying/awesome before)
I'm really hoping for a character or 3DS stage. Especially a stage that's in the leak, but looks significantly different. Or one that's just not in the leak, so people start saying there are more stages or something.
I want something that will add more fuel to the fire, without directly confirming or denying.
I always speak in absolutes when it comes to leaks. If it can be explained away by 'lucky guess', then, it doesn't absolutely confirm it. Does it point to it being real? Absolutely. Is it STILL possible it's fake, yes, but it'll be hard to convince people.
In order for the leak to be proven real, beyond a shadow of a doubt, is for sulk, duck hunt, or bowser jr to have newcomer trailers and their render on the website matches the CSS. Same w/ ness, wario, game and watch, and any other veteran. Their render has to match.
I just want another leak!

Smash communities aren't that hard to find! If you're in a city, just ask someone who doesn't look like they get a lot of sunlight if there's a local smash community, they'll probably know something about it. They're really awkward though, so it might be hard to get info out of them. I had people over my house for a few games one time, and a few of them just stood on my porch for an hour instead of knocking on the door or something normal lol.
Who is going to live that long anyway?

Even if Magicant is revealed, there wouldn't even be a chance of it matching the picture, for the simple reason that stage reveals don't show us what the icon on the stage select screen looks like - thus we're still arguing about the Tomodachi Life icon. However, a Magicant reveal would make me lean towards real anyway, since most of the speculation about the new Earthbound stage was for Saturn Valley or Giygas' lair. I can't remember many people talking about Magicant.
The most likely PotD to deconfirm the leak, I think, will be a 3DS stage that's not included on the leak, especially one from a major franchise (Kirby, DK, Metroid, Star Fox,) because that'll block any arguments that "this stage just wasn't unlocked in the leak."

I feel like I'll be here. I was worried when Brawl came out I wouldn't care about the next Smash; that clearly hasn't happened.

Well, I don't know. I just think people shaming other people for using c-sticks are silly. Smash itself is versatile so controllers are too.
