Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Even if Magicant is revealed, there wouldn't even be a chance of it matching the picture, for the simple reason that stage reveals don't show us what the icon on the stage select screen looks like - thus we're still arguing about the Tomodachi Life icon. However, a Magicant reveal would make me lean towards real anyway, since most of the speculation about the new Earthbound stage was for Saturn Valley or Giygas' lair. I can't remember many people talking about Magicant.

The most likely PotD to deconfirm the leak, I think, will be a 3DS stage that's not included on the leak, especially one from a major franchise (Kirby, DK, Metroid, Star Fox,) because that'll block any arguments that "this stage just wasn't unlocked in the leak."

Exactly. Well put. The other option is we get magicant reveal, and then second screenshot is the Stage select screen with the exact magicant portrait. That would confirm/deny it :)

Sakurai seems to be going even more retro for this game, especially for 3DS (game boy stage!), so I honestly wouldn't put magicant out of the question.

Color game 15, pac-man, mega man, game boy, and, if real, duck hunt dog, are all pointing towards a smash bros that is really really retro, while still embracing the modern (greninja, wii fit trainer, awakening). It's like he's broadening the horizons even more this time around.

Also, as I'd like to point out again, the Stage select and character select screen in those leaks are clearly missing spots, so I wouldn't ever count the leak as being final roster and final stage select, even if the rest are DLC.

I have a question:

What do you guys think about the Smash Ball? Love it? Hate it? Why?

I don't have many feelings about it, but I will say this. If it was meant to balance the game (or to give the person who's losing a chance to come back), it fails at that most of the time in my experience. The person who's winning (or better) is most likely to get it, so I feel like it just gives them an advantage. I usually end up sneaking a hit in with a projectile, and then everyone rages because they don't know how I got the smash ball from so far.

That's just my experience, what do you guys think?
I feel it appears too often in matches and final smashes last too long, so it almost "stops" the game.

Smash communities aren't that hard to find! If you're in a city, just ask someone who doesn't look like they get a lot of sunlight if there's a local smash community, they'll probably know something about it. They're really awkward though, so it might be hard to get info out of them. I had people over my house for a few games one time, and a few of them just stood on my porch for an hour instead of knocking on the door or something normal lol.

Lol I hope I'm not that awkward!
But yea, that's part of the problem, this is a college in a rural area surrounded by mountains with only 2000ish students lol
Let's just say Smash wasn't
important
in my college decision process
:(

First, I feel the reasoning behind it is ridiculous. The fact that a developer would spend time and energy into his game to create an artificial skill ceiling is appalling.

The Smash Ball itself is also an inherently inequitable concept. Faster characters have an innate advantage in targeting the ball. Additionally, there is a broad spectrum as to the potency of Final Smashes - some characters have comparatively weak Final Smashes that fail to guarantee even 1 KO.

The reasoning behind the Smash Ball is repulsive, and the execution is terribly ineffective in accomplishing its intended purpose.

To be fair, a lot of the weaker FSs are being replaced and modified. Lucario's completely ineffective Aura Storm (Which I once got five times in a row in a four fighter battle without scoring a single KO), for example, was replaced by a mega transformation.

I know I'm in the minority on GAF in that I don't care about "skill" or "balance" when it comes to Smash Bros., but I think the race to the Smash Ball is fun, and that's mainly why I play video games -- to have fun.

I shit you not, I like playing Smash Bros with a keyboard.

WASD - Left analog
Thinkpad tracknub - C Stick
Spacebar - Shield
K - Attack
J - Special
Semi Colon - Jump
I - Grab
U - Up on C-Stick (makes UpAir easier)

o.O

Well.

Like... I at least understand that wii remotes make cool sound effects when you pick a character, so wii remotes have that going for them.

Keyboards emit no sound effects for smash.

If there is a Magicant stage, I sure hope it's in both versions. 3DS can get the Mother 1 version and Wii U can get the Mother 2 version.

It actually feels really good and a lot of ATs are much easier. Tilts are harder to do, but there's some tricks to make them come out. You can do QCF for F-Tilt.

I couldn't imagine pulling off stuff like qcfs with a keyboard. o.o

I'm sure it's not hard, just a really foreign idea to me.

I was reading the composer list until I saw Saki Kasuga who did fire emblem and paper mario thousand year door. I cannot think of one music from thousand year door that would fit on paper mario stage. Any ideas guys?

Edit: Macho Grubba boss battle theme?

Love it, unless I'm playing against a Sonic or space animal... then I hate it. :P But honestly, no, I love Final Smashes and using/avoiding them effectively is really fun to me. I just wish they were better balanced.

We fighting games now.
It feels so right. You'd think it wouldn't.

You definitely need a keyboard that allows for a few simultatneous keypresses. But basically you just roll over the keys. If I'm facing right, the input is basically:

S
S and D
D

Put middle finger on S
Put pointer finger on D
Remove middle finger from S

I can really see Wolf and Lucas getting cut/DLC'ed sadly. I mean, unless Sakurai reveals Falco/Ness soon, would you see him hiding 2 characters from the same franchise in the game?
I feel that, if we had Falco and Wolf and Ness and Lucas in the game we'd have already seen Falco and Ness revealed.

Did he ever hide 2 or more veterans from the same franchise for Brawl?

My personal pick would be this guy:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAqTod-1BlE

'We Believe In You, Mario!', probably the best song from Thousand Year Door, and though it's not a mega-upbeat super-fast battle theme I think a remix of it could work really well. Just up the tempo a little, make it a little more punchy, and it would fit the whole 'grand journey' theme that the Smash stage seems to have going for it.

The Paper Mario music is probably especially hard to choose considering how much that stage can change. Still though, that series has some great music, I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Boring. When it appears everyone basically ignores each other and runs for it. If it gets too high up, some characters are just totally boned. Then when someone actually gets it, the people on defense can largely do nothing to defend themselves to they just run away/roll around. They're flashy and some of them look cool (Greninja!) but ultimately not really a fan.

Haha please keep doing stuff like this. I love how you're shaming all of the "I'm 100% positive the leak is false" people. Sahs definitely gonna back out sooner or later.

Wait, Sah doesn't actually honor avatar bets? That's lame.

The only bet I never finished was when I asked TB to remind me after college which he/she failed to do and it kind of just drifted into the back of my mind.

They claimed they kept asking me, but I never sit there and play catchup with this fast moving OT.

Will 100% honor Jedi Link's, even if it is for a shortwhile.

Also, stuff like rising Dairs and retreating Fairs are pretty easy without C-Stick input on keyboard since you can easily switch keys before the next frame.

Don't lie. You never told me to give you a reminder, and I even told you a couple of times in the thread, and I even PM'd you once.

I even told you about my plan of giving everyone bat avatars, which you clearly saw 9 people having them, which you would have been part of.

I expect you to honor it until at least the Wii U game comes out!

He failed to do? Let me show you how can he failed if you just ignored him right there. :P

Also Troubled Bat said that he did send you a Private Messages, and you didn't even bothered to reply. :P

Also, as I'd like to point out again, the Stage select and character select screen in those leaks are clearly missing spots, so I wouldn't ever count the leak as being final roster and final stage select, even if the rest are DLC.

That assumes the full screen is used when all characters are unlocked. The same could easily be said of melee, which had two apparent gaps when filled.

There being 49 icons (48 characters+ random) on the 'leak' means there's no easy way to split them up, having divisors of only 1, 7 and itself, either you'd end up with a 7x7 grid(would be a strange choice on the 3ds screen given it's much wider than tall) or something weird with apparent "missing spots".

For the 3ds, all that empty space looks really weird. Not saying it's right, but I think they would have used the space a bit better, adding UI elements, for example. Not to mention, there's no mii fighter spot, either.

I mean, at least it's symmetrical, but shulk is REALLY out of place down there.

Keyboard controls? Blegh. Makes my mind go right to Super Flash Bros. That was a dark time in my past.

I think Smash Flash has its benefits. Like I can play it on the job.
But only for like 20 mins before my hands feel like they're going to fall off.

Edit: First "Top of the page"! Milestones...
