That's entirely possible, though. There's no rules saying "once an unlock always an unlock" or vice-versa.

And it might not be 'one of the final', we don't know how anyone gets unlocked. Smash always lets you tackle it in your own order.

Even with the "unlock things how you want" you're still going to inevitable unlock certain characters before others. Unless you seriously want to argue Ice Climbers went from a starting character to a harder to unlock vet then everyone else in the leaked image or has some super obscure unlock method.

Isaac is anything but recent. And honestly I think even Chibi-Robo's franchise is more alive than his. A DLC pack with actual recent characters IMO would have to include:

Splatoon Girl
Mallo
Dillon
Nabbit

-Everyone is being revealed before launch regardless of if they're starter or unlockable
-Ice Climbers are an unlockable character
-Ice Climbers have an obscure unlock method which is why they aren't in the leak

What's the point of any argument/discussion based upon the leak then if it potentially could be entirely pointless if it could be

2- changed from that leak to launch

Eh, stranger stuff has happened. Jiggly went from the first unlockable to close to the last unlockable. Captain Falcon has switched back and forth between unlock and starter 4 games in a row now.

You have to beat 500 Fighting Wireframes on Cruel Smash before you unlock them. Also the renders change when it happens.

So then what happens if Ice Climbers are revealed, but then immediately afterwards we get Duck Hunt/Bowser Jr/Shulk?

We don't even know for certain that this leak came from an ESRB video in the first place. The supposed cut characters might just not be in that build. Since we're only three weeks from release anyway it would be daft to call for a total confirmation or deconfirmation based on assumptions.

I don't know what shoehorning has to do with anything :v modern Smash is too strongly represented by 80's and 90's characters. The only thing rarer than characters from the 2000's is characters from the 2010's

Yeah, I was just thinking of characters that hadn't been confirmed already. And I'm pretty sure Splatoon girl isn't in the game because of not having existed when characters were being considered; she's in for sure for SSB5, if DLC this time around isn't a possibility. It's a shame because it would have been great publicity for Splatoon

When Luigi was revealed he came with a note that was something like "In previous games we've never revealed unlockable characters before release, but for the Year of Luigi we can make an exception", which says to me that at least Luigi, if nobody else, is an unlockable that they've revealed ahead of time.

We don't know with anyone else. It would be highly odd to have Marth and Lucina both be starters considering she's a clone of him.

No, the Dojo only revealed things that were present in the game when you bought it. The unlocks actually are still hidden on the website.

Got it, yeah I remember that now.

I don't know though, 37+ for a starting roster seems huge. I would like it to be that way because I don't care much for unlocking chars in this day and age, but damn that's big.

Yea, this is what I'm noticing. For some strange reason, something has to "...kill the leak's unproven "authenticity"". As if without a doubt, it's confirmed legit.
