Though if that stage selection was intended to be multi-page, why not group the returning and new stages together? It sort of made sense if that's all the stages that existed in the game, but using a multiple page setup and not separating the stages is just kind of odd, given the previous entries.

See, I have been trying to tell everyone.

So lets get this straight.

Several people organize themselves to create a fake roster with fake screenshots that look really legitimate.

At the end of July 2-3 people spill the beans about a roster that allegedly includes Bowser jr, Duck hunt dog, Dark Pit, and Dr.Mario as separate characters, along with another one that includes Dixie, Ridley and Mewtwo.

Several Smashboards mods and members are in on this and vouch for one another to increase it's legitimacy saying they have sources, risking their status on said forums.

Someone in the organization has been creating the fake screenshots, even getting tiny details down like the glitch with the black bar that wasn't noticed until pointed out, and somehow got a famitsu scan of of the tomodachi stage days before said scans were up on the internet?

Not to mention these pictures had to be finalized by two weeks ago when Metaknights render was shown off?

I don't think there's ever been visibly locked things outside of the achievements thing in Brawl. They've all just been hidden until unlocked.

For what it's worth, unless we're dealing with an incomplete character select screen (but why would the screen be incomplete if the backstory of the leak is true?), I find it hard, if not impossible to believe that the real, complete character select screen, given the standards set by Sakurai, would:

a) have Yoshi splitting up the Mario franchise characters;
b) put two spaces (in a row of nine, so that's asymmetry) between Bowser and Bowser Jr.;
c) not have Dark Pit grouped with Pit and Palutena*;
d) not have Dr. Mario grouped with the other Mario characters*;
e) not have Lucina grouped with the other FE characters*;
f) have Shulk grouped with the third-party characters.

(* unless you assume this is a 'clone corner', but in all the other games, clones were still linked with the characters they cloned, horizontally or vertically. Besides, shouldn't Toon Link belong in the same corner if that's the reasoning?)

I could believe the roster (though having Dr. Mario back is - pun totally intended - a tough pill to swallow), but this select screen lacks the symmetry and the logic that I believe someone with Sakurai's attention to detail would put into it. Too many red flags for me to believe.

So basically, my opinion is that this is either a real but incomplete screen that will make more sense with more unlocked characters or the work of a faker who's much better at faking renders than he is at putting together select screens with any semblance of rhyme or reason.

Yeah, the "clone corner" never made much sense to me since only some of the clones were there. In all likelihood Toon Link, Falco, and Ganondorf should also be down there.

To be fair, Lupinko's UMvC3 leak treasure hunts were one of the most entertaining things about that game until Capcom ruined it by leaking everyone themselves. These guys are just really bad at keeping our interest.

Reading the thread, here's the details I saw:
-Leaker was indeed from ESRB, lost his job.
-Event Mode either somehow not seen or axed in the 3DS version. Noted that it could've been behind challenges and not single player, which would make some sense since co-op events were a thing in Brawl.
-MasterLinkX is spreading a lot of false information, but has seen the leak.
-There are unique images of Sonic, Pac-Man, and Megaman in the all-star mode menu. Lends more credit to Snake getting axed I think.
-The leakers have mainly just seen menu screens and an 8 second clip of Shulk's video screen
-They believe that the roster isn't final as All-Star mode has a lock on it, but they have no indication or information to go by otherwise.
-Probably not going to get anything more from this guy because the ESRB is pissed at him and told him not to leak anything else.

Overall, I think it confirms that a group of people is leaking different parts of the same info, but it doesn't really clear up if that info is fake or not.

Happened again with XY too; people claiming Hawlucha was fake because his feathers didn't line up properly, along with some other fake analysis results.

If it's real, probably. The way I see it, the only leaks that have any chance of being real when put under scrutiny are the first three ones with actual screens.

If any of those fall apart then the entire foundation of this leak falls apart.
