Beginning was so fucking creepy.
Potential for a BANNED gif.

We need Bish face on that Vampire.
I don't think he'd be so sadistic, but then again . . .

Someone do it.

I agree with the Nora part but what is wrong with Vasili saying 'didn't know you had a little girl', was it him actually saying it? I can't see anything wrong with it other than him actually saying it. It's something he didn't know from someone he worked with for a long time. That Gus line didn't bother me at all, seemed kind of fitting.

Yes it was him saying it, that's why I thought this was some awkward form of exposition, they could just have shown us the phone, but I guess we wouldn't have known for sure that this was her daughter.

Also, like I said the Gus line made me laugh so I'm actually okay with it!

Already know that the show has been renewed, but now we got a firm confirmation that the second season will be 13 episodes. Also some ratings info.

- EW: 'The Strain' renewed for season 2
FX’s neo-vampire bio-terror drama The Strain is coming back next summer. The gory apocalyptic drama from producers Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse has just received a 13-episode renewal.
The pickup is not remotely surprising given the show’s ratings. The Strain has averaged 4.5 million viewers for first-run episodes, including DVR playback. That number jumps to 11 million viewers across if you fold in repeats, On Demand and online viewership. Among adults ages 18 to 49, FX claims the show is the highest-rated new basic cable drama of 2014. “We’ve never had any doubts about The Strain,” said FX Networks CEO John Landgraf. “It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial hit, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace. We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale.”

This is just a great thing to read.

Couldn't roll my eyes any further back in my skull with the two hardass FBI agents.

Also the eclipse was a huge letdown with one freaking vampire on the loose running into all the characters we know

More Vasili and less everything else, please

I'm really confused as to why they went this route with Fet, because in the book, it's a much more streamlined and believable path to meet up with our heroes. So all this convolution makes no sense.

BOOK SPOILERS:
Straight after he kills two vampires in the sewers, he calls Eph and is all "yo, I just killed two vampires in the sewers".

But that doesn't make sense in the show
He hasn't even met Eph (right?), why would he call the guy? Why would he even think vampire? IMO, it's more believable to try and warn friends and family first

The eclipse was a sign. An omen. The brief respite from the sun was incidental.

He has the CDC's number because his department gets their funding from it. And I was being simplistic, he doesn't actually say it like that.

Something that doesn't really get through in the show is that the exterminator and the gangster are both intelligent and hold up under pressure. The exterminator is a logical thinker who doesn't overreact or get caught up in the moment. He doesn't go around yelling his head off about vampires in the sewers because he knows that it probably will be bad for him.

Oh, Fet is extremely smart.

I'm just saying I don't understand why they gave him such a route-change in the show if the book was so straightforward.

I mean, yeah, it helps narrate to the viewer that things are going to get uber-shitty really fast, but it also betrays the broader plot points.

Why didn't Eph show his family the video he took to better convince them of the danger?

Also why didn't he show the police who were interrogating him the video?

Did his boss at the CDC take his phone? I can't remember.

Eph had the phone with the video.

He had two opportunities to use the phone, when he talked to his family, and when he talked to those cops. I guess he forgot lol!

At this point, I think the phone is now pointless. Vampire season has begun.

That's another thing that bugged me.

They actually have no evidence until the very end of the book, and it is instantly brought up at the beginning of the second book as a major plot point.

If they do the same thing here, which I highly think they will in order to get cameos from talk show hosts for the season two intro, it's going to be super lame.

He has the CDC's number because his department gets their funding from it. And I was being simplistic, he doesn't actually say it like that.

Vasiliy specifically has Jim's phone number, which (in the show) Jim gave to Eph when he fled the CDC. So now we're just waiting for Vasiliy to try and call the Canary Team and talk to Eph.

As for Eph's phone, he took out the SIM card when he left.
I've never tried to use a phone after taking the SIM card out. Would it still work as a small computer?

But yeah, Eph not explaining to his ex that bloodsucking monsters are slowly taking over the city is a bit goofy. This is not a bad virus. This turns people into monsters. He should have at least told her what the monsters look like, and to avoid them.

I'm more dumbfounded about the attack at the senior center. After witnessing that, they just go home and sleep. WTF? No one calls the police or anything? You just run home in the dark and go to bed?

Still enjoying the show. That was what, episode 6? Out of 13 for this season?
They've got a lot of filler to go through, if they're tying to keep this season to Book 1. They've already incorporated some aspects of Book 2.

That's great to hear. I got the impression that they'd all form an awesome little urban monster squad eventually. I"m eager for them to put aside their differences and get to vampire killing. I guess first, they've got to meet though...

I thought the eclipse would last more than just this episode. I was a bit disappointed that it was so short. Maybe it's a precursor for a bigger event to come.

Show seems to be ramping up and I'm liking it. I feel like at this point the show may always suffer in terms of bad dialogue, some weak writing and overall "dumb" characters but I can't help but to be really enjoying the ride none the less. There is a good chance that I will keep watching this series until it eventually finishes. I like it! :)

So many stupid things in this show, but I'm just rolling with them now.

I second that. It's just baffling how shows like this mess up their structure and consistency... it's not like we're talking about a multilayered mystery with complicated characters here.

But... the main cast is doing very well with the material. I particularly loved the little scene where Abraham gives Eph the rundown on vampires over eggs. Everything about that dialogue is ludicrous, but the actors sell the hell out of it.

I haven't read the book, but I feel the intelligence and level-headedness of Fet and Elizalde comes through just fine in the series.

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 7 "For Services Rendered"

Setrakian, Eph, and Nora formulate a plan to track down the Master using Jim as bait. Eichhorst and Setrakian’s pasts are revealed. At the Luss home, Neeva struggles to protect the children while encountering a mysterious stranger whose help she may not want.

Gus getting arrested is probably one of the things that I don't like. I feel like the arresting officers would see the messed up fat guy and not be curious.
