So if I have info correct, there are two competing leaks for the rest of the roster.
Original Leak (months old, but has been correct everything this so far):

So are we all in agreement that the leaked CSS most likely isn't the full final roster either because not everyone is unlocked OR because there are more characters planned to be DLC to fill in the missing 5 spots? If that was the final roster I imagine
1- Shulk would have been bumped up to make the 2nd to last row a full 9 leaving the bottom row for just the 3rd parties and random/mii fighter
2- Yoshi from the Yoshi franchise wouldn't be splitting the Mario franchise characters
3- Doctor Mario, Lucina, and Dark Pit wouldn't be separated from their franchises
Of course maybe it IS the final roster and they were still playing around with the final character selection lay out.

I feel like this is almost for sure the final release at launch, but I could totally see them leaving room for planned DLC characters. I can't see Smash having a tab for DLC characters (though Mario Golf World Tour kind of did.)
But hey, I'd love to be wrong. Bring on the Dixie/Ridley love!

There's four general opinions.
1) This isn't the final roster.
2) This is the final roster, but it'll be fleshed out with DLC that likely leaked.
3) This is the final roster and there will be DLC, but the DLC hasn't been leaked yet.
4) This is the absolute final roster.
I'd guess most people are either 1 or 3. I'd consider myself part of group 1.
Something is off to me about the first list. Isn't it just a poster quoting someone else's leak and then adding in unrelated character choices like Dixie, Mewtwo, etc.?

I've already given my newcomer thoughts in past threads but I will say that this is the best batch of newcomers (for me) ever. Even if we only get the ones we know now and not Chrous Kids I would be happy with the newcomers (even though I still really want a RH character).
However, the cuts (if they end up being truly gone) honestly dim my spirits a tad. Cuts are a big thing I think should be avoided in Smash and I'm pretty sure Sakurai shares this sentiment (check OP for interview link).
I'll still enjoy the game if Lucas, Wolf, and ICs aren't in, but I just can't imagine Sakurai not wanting to at least get them in as DLC eventually.

Ah, I completely forgot about Toon Link, and was still counting Sheik in with Zelda.
You're right, thanks for correcting me. Still wish they'd turned Toon Link into Tetra. She would have been much better than a second Link, and is from the same game / has a sword and everything. Oh well.

All of the leakers only got their information from the leaked video, which did not contain any additional characters.
So even if there are additional characters, none of the leakers have any way of knowing what they are, and they're just making stuff up. That's why you're seeing contradictions.

So this stuff is getting confusing to follow, so let me ask the following:
The Gematsu leak is proven fake, right? There was never any hard evidence and his picks were fairly guessable. He guessed wrong on Chrom and never mentioned any of these new characters. There's also no sign of the Chorus Men.
Am I right that this guy has been completely debunked? What's the current take on that old leak?

I don't even know what site that is, but yes, it looks like a quote. Don't see how that changes the validity though? So far the quoted part seems very accurate

The first one is referencing a Smashboards leak that didn't include any of the characters listed there. It just had the characters we already saw leaked.

For Nintendo's sake, I hope that the next Direct Smash trailer is for a character not shown in the leaks, like Chorus Kids, Dixie Kong, Mewtwo, or Ridley.

I don't see why you'd expect them to just decide to drop everything when there's a really good chance they're all planned out way ahead of time.
I'm not denying the quoted part. I'm wondering where the poster got the idea of Dixie, Mewtwo, etc. from since it wasn't mentioned in the quote block. It'd be more helpful though if we had the full post from which this leak originated.

Pretty sure that second one is bogus, and where does the first one specificy the other 4 will be DLC? From what I'm seeing all it says is that Ridley, Mewtwo, Dixie, and Chorus Men are left to be revealed. That would only leave one space left which in theory could be for DLC, it could also be for one last remaining newcomer OR a veteran that wasn't ready at the time that the ESRB got those pics/videos (probably Ice Climbers)
With how Sakurai tries to stuff so much content into games up until the last minute I wouldn't be surprised if there were already a few more characters who weren't ready to show to the ESRB but may have been included in a text or were a non factor in influencing the rating hence they weren't shown.
It's probably safest to assume that's the final roster with no dlc just in case the worst possible situation happens.

It is definitely not debunked. Many of Gematsu's characters were never guessable.
Alright guys, obviously anything could change, but if this is indeed our final list of newcomers:
How do you feel Smash 4 did with it's newcomer selection? I made this picture so you try and think of the newcomers as a whole, not just the ones leaked.
Me personally? A few missed opportunities aside, fucking stoked. 15 new fighters is nothing to scoff regardless of clones, and you could even bump that number to 17 if you count the Mii Fighter as 3 different characters.
They did a good job, definitely. The most glaring issue is Dark Pit and Dr. Mario (a veteran), since neither really differentiate well when compared to a cast that is otherwise immensely varied. Ideally, Lucina would have been the only clone in the game, but I guess it's not surprising that her inclusion would also mean various other clones to beef the list even more. Mii fighters could end up being pretty hilarious, so while they're a pretty lifeless depiction in the official art, the creations of the userbase should make their inclusion a lot more interesting. And the "uniqueness" of Shulk's moveset is still up in the air, but I am happy to see his neutral B brings a new concept to the table.
All the other newcomers are distinct from one another it seems, which bodes really well for the depth of the game.

No doubt it was a true leaker.
I've seen the original post on Smashboards. It doesn't mention DLC at all. Chorus Men, Dixie, Ridley and Mewtwo were from a separate leak from the one they're quoting.

I remember Hoskins saying that the Mario Bros. movie was one of the worst things he'd ever done. He'd be turning over in his grave if he was an alt in Smash lol
