You could say same thing about Ice Climbers and Polar Bear. Well, that would make sense why Sakurai took down Polar Bear POTD.

I think sometimes we make too much of this little incident. If I'm not mistaken, a pic including the Polar Bear was officially released in a later round of screenshots, so it's not like Sakurai wants to cover up its existence altogether. I think what happened with that PotD was a simple clerical error: Sakurai has a pic and a caption prepared ahead of time, but whoever is responsible for uploading it accidentally uploaded the wrong pic. There was no caption prepared for the Polar Bear pic, so it couldn't serve as the PotD and had to be taken down.

Well, you got a fair point there. I agreed with you with that. Polar Bear model should came from Ice Climbers' stage in Brawl.

He took it down instantly, which means it was probably an accident. If anything, I wouldn't be surprised if the Ice Climbers show up as DLC once the Wii U version is released. K. Rool aside, I'm satisfied the roster, but I can't get over how atrocious the stage selection is. No new DK or Metroid stages? What in the actual fuck? Did they seriously think that reusing Jungle Japes and Brinstar for the second time would make people happy?

What costumes were these?

He doesn't say specifically, just that they were get completely new costumes. He says Mario will get a blue outfit (not exactly a stretch).

My point being, NO ONE in the original text leak confirmed Mewtwo, Dixie, Ridley, or even Chorus Kids. The Smashboards topic regarding the leak says that Shulk and Chorus Kids are in, but doesn't source this at all (Ninka confirms Shulk in his leak). Ergo, anything confirming any characters that we have not seen should be taken with a grain of salt. I think someone on Smashboards hinted that they are trying to find out the missing characters, but who knows if they will have proof or just speculation. The problem is the Smashboards people are mixing in their speculation with actual leaks and it muddies everything up.

What we saw is what we know, anything else is up in the air.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say whoever is not in the roster now will eventually end up as DLC at a later time. That should be hope enough for the Ness, Snake and Ice Climbers fans.

A shame Pokemon trainer had to be one of the many victims. He had the most unique skillset. Here's hoping that he too might make a return one day.

Chorus Men just doesn't seem like a character Sakurai would give up on unless there were serious problems that we obviously cannot account for, especially given all of the other newcomers we've seen this far. Every other character on that list survived the initial phase; just not Chrom, which makes sense and to be quite honest was for the best all around since most people had the biggest problem with him of the leaked characters. I'm still rolling with my Boys.

Yeah, if Chorus Men was in the cut, then it must've been because they did act as 3 characters and not one like most of us thought. Hopefully next time.

If Chorus Men wasn't planned at all, then that means a eventual RH rep might not even be them.

Doc Mario is fine, I prefer him just for his likely lack of FLUDD.

I don't really have an opinion on Dark Pit if he's a clone, I never really used Pit that much because I didn't love his moveset or weight.

Okay, clones are low effort but they don't just make themselves. You still have to make minor model and property changes , plus you have to create renders, work them into CPU slots for solo modes, create trophies and descriptions for them, have alt colors for them, and (in the case of Dark Pit) voice changes (even though it's the same VA). Plus sometimes they have completely different moves and they have to be balanced just like any other character.

So I'm not necessarily upset about them (love DP), but there are certainty resources that are used there.

It's hard to say how much work went into the clones and how resources could have been split up differently but do remember that with Melee, it was either the SIX clones we got or King Dedede. Even if we cut all the clones in Smash 4, its unclear that would even buy us one more distinct newcomer.

It's weird

Looking at the roster from a pure character perspective Doctor Mario irks me the most compared to Dark Pit or Lucina

Looking at the roster from a pure gameplay perspective Doctor Mario is the most acceptable of the clones due to Mario having his down b changed to fluud and Doctor Mario (presumably) having their old down b of the tornado like Luigi which basically makes Doc Mario S64/Melee Mario which I'm glad to have the option. On the flip side Lucina looks to be identical to Marth outside of possibly speed and where her sword deals damage which is by far the most disappointing aspect. I love her character but if all that makes her unique is a change in taunt that gives her a mask she's the "worst" addition to the roster.

Dark Pit as a character I like same as Lucina, but I'll have to see if his inclusion is to give us different weapons from Uprising, enable us to have Brawl Pit, or is just a slower/more powerful version of Smash 4 Pit. Would be Best, okay, bad depending on how he plays.

I'm posting this information to see if any of this actually comes true. Obviously take this with a huge grain of salt because I don't know if any of this is true or if this guy is a big liar. In the Bay Area the smash scene is pretty big. In SF, they hold smash gatherings every week (In Oakland as well "the Made"). Tonight there was a guy who says his internship with Nintendo had just ended. Yes, Nintendo has an office of some sort in Redwood/San Mateo (Bay Area). Anyways, I'll just share the basics to keep it simple.

The following chars are supposedly to be revealed

Bowser Jr. and The dog from duck hunt

Not returning/added:

Wolf and Mewtwo

*49 chars total

multiple skins available such as Dr. Mario. and Jr. Bowser's alt. costumes are the koopa kids.

I'm not standing behind this guy by any means, but we'll see if any of this comes true.

Was it actually on August 8? If so, that's a good week and some change after the same basic stuff was posted to Smashboards.

I know this probably isn't popular, but I would rather have had Dedede honestly. Roy, Pichu, and Doc were cut (Doc is back though), and Falco, Ganondorf, and Young/Toon Link I think would've come along at some point. Plus then maybe Ganondorf wouldn't be so Falcony.

I'd like to think that they are planning a big Nintendo Direct info dump for this week or next. Waiting until the week of release to push for big announcements seems like playing with fire since the game is likely to leak (again) early anyway at that point.

I know this probably isn't popular, but I would rather have had Dedede honestly. Roy, Pichu, and Doc were cut (Doc is back though), and Falco, Ganondorf, and Young/Toon Link I think would've come along at some point. Plus then maybe Ganondorf wouldn't be so Falcony.

I really like Falco, but I agree that I would've probably sacrificed those 6 in Melee to keep King Dedede if it was up to me.

I think there will be a Mechon Hunter unit, a gargoyle-variety enemy, and a Gogol as a boss type.

Metal Face will both be in SR and in the Gaur Plains stage

In Super Mario 64, you know the star statue in the courtyard? Years ago, there was a rumor that the illegible writing on the plaque on that statue read "L is real 2041." Supposedly, it was a hint that Luigi was unlockable. There were 2041 coins in the Japanese version of the game, so the theory was that if you collected every single coin and then beat the game, you could play as Luigi. It was one of the earliest and most widespread video game internet rumors I can remember.

I was against Jr. before the reveal as well. I didn't feel that the character was particularly compelling and the paintbrush idea didn't do much for me. I'm a fan of how they implemented him here, he's like the Smash version of Tron Bonne!

That's up there with the 'mew hidden under the truck' for pre-datamining internet rumors. Nothing like that really happens anymore because people just take a peek in the code and go "nope, no Luigi".
