Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

I saw someone disappointed with the roster because there weren't any grass-type Pokemon.

You're not going to convince me that wide swaths of the discussion isn't made of crazy people.

Because I'm not going to. I do think that saying we shouldn't criticize the roster or individual characters is stupid though.

If there are any veterans beyond those on the leaked CSS, I really think Sakurai should show them now, just to keep people super-hyped with the knowledge that perhaps we haven't seen everything.

So for example, if Ice Climbers are in, they'd make a good PotD update sometime this week.

Ice Climbers are supposedly cut/dlc

So showing them for a POTD would be AMAZING

OH SHIT

Man this was a BAD day to be away from the computer all day... but yeah, real as fuck, I had a feeling all along! Bowser Jr. looks great, can't wait to see the official confirmations.

Anyone have a link to the videos at this point, though? I'm late to the party. :(

Exactly. Sakurai has competition, so Sakurai needs to give us something that the competition cannot or does not provide.

Clones in general bother me, I feel like their presence cheapens the roster. I like it when each and every character represents a totally distinct playstyle, and when you start adding lazy clones like Dr Mario and Dark Pit in there it feels like cruft accumulating on the roster if that makes sense. Lucina would be fine as an alt costume, it's a bit silly that they went out of their way to differentiate her (and even less than any Melee clone).

I make an exception for Toon Link because Zelda is so huge a franchise that "adult Link" and "cel-shaded Link" are both major characters that deserve representation. I wish their movesets were more differentiated though.

I'm quite the opposite. I feel that clones help to balance the roster with different variations on established movesets, like having a lighter and faster Link or a heavy, stronger version of Captain Falcon.

Um excuse me, 11.7% of all Pokemon are grass type yet there's none in Smash, despite the fact that we have Charizard, who is a fire type, which only represents 8% of all Pokemon. WHO'S CRAZY NOW?

Sakurai is going to just keep on trucking and post whatever he already planned to post today. We will almost certainly get a Direct next week so there's no point in trying to dodge everything. Have rosters in other non-Smash fighting games been hidden for so long? Obviously there's always one or two characters that are secret up unto release, but Sakurai is sitting on a dozen unconfirmed characters almost two weeks away from release.

Problem is I think character reveals (and to a lesser extent, everything else) are planned in advance so that that the next issue of famitsu can cover it and such.

I heard PAX is this week? And according to André on GameXplain, Nintendo is holding a media summit for Smash Bros. there? Seems like we could get a character reveal this week if that's the case.

I feel like the people STILL hoping against hope for Goku are the same people who thought Ron Paul could win the general election

I don't think those 2 people congregate in the same room, let alone be the same people.

How long has this been in development for? 2+ years, tons of fat was cut. You would think that something that's been in development for this long, the 2 main things they'd focus on would be characters and stages. The latter seeming almost an afterthought.

Or the speculation that the 3DS version really did hamper development and kill resources. So, if anything, Mewtwo not getting in is because of the 3DS version this time!

There's no reason to really think they're either in particular. All anyone knows is what's in the video, and all the video shows is that they're not in that build of the roster (which might not contain all characters if the All star mode being locked is any indication).

I mean, it's not a sure thing there are even any more characters, but nobody knows who they are or who's cut/DLC.

Except Snake.

It's relative how important his inclusion is depending on the fan. Huge fan of Doctor Mario? You'd love the fact that he's his own character, with different stats, different customizable moves, different voice overs, different animations, etc. Indifferent toward Doctor Mario (like me)? Nothing was taken from the game for his inclusion, so you get a bonus character to tease the thought of maining. Hate Doctor Mario? Ignore him. His inclusion doesn't and shouldn't affect your view on the quality of the roster.

(Not speaking directly to you by the way. Hope it doesn't seem like I'm necessarily calling you out.)

No yeah I get it and I'm totally not on a tirade or anything, and I don't think he's a blemish on the roster. As intense a word as I'd use is "odd" or "silly." Honestly if Alph had been sit into a separate Olimar clone I would've been ecstatic but I'm sure there would be people upset by it so yeah.

I just think Doc is kind of a funny thing that exists. Not bad, just silly. I will redact that adjective fully if he's more different from Mario than in Melee.

PALUTENAGATE CONTINUES

Vaanrose (one of the original leakers of the ONE TRUE LEAK), said that MFL did NOT create the fake Palutena image, and that his friend did. The Palutena faker gave them to MFL in order to try to encourage him to share more info about his source.

If anybody's curious, the friend is question is this guy.

You know, the one who made that awesome Proto Man render.

Just speculation, but if Dark Pit has the Dark Pit Staff, it'd probably still fire a laser-like projectile, like Pit's bow, but it'd have even greater range, travel faster, and you couldn't alter its trajectory. In other words, you're really just modifying the properties of the projectile, in which case I could see him having this new weapon while still functioning as an altered clone.

I wonder how the people who don't like clones feel about Ken and Akuma.

Funny enough, Pit has a custom move that behaves almost exactly like that in "Penetrating Bow"

So kinda like Fox's gun vs. Falco's gun?

Well, not quite, since I imagine the Dark Pit Staff couldn't change the trajectory of the shot like Pit's bow can. But yes, in essence, the form looks different but it's really about the function, and the function is a simple matter of altering the move properties. The weapon itself is just for show.
