Oh please. There is so much apathy for Smash Bros in the mainstream press that I doubt they would even consider this news at all. The last time I heard anyone talk about Smash in a non-Nintendo focused podcast was how annoyed they were when Nintendo's special E3 announcement last year was Wii Fit trainer in Smash. They gave no fucks and considered it an inconvenience because it was 'a waste of time.'

In Super Mario 64, you know the star statue in the courtyard? Years ago, there was a rumor that the illegible writing on the plaque on that statue read "L is real 2041." Supposedly, it was a hint that Luigi was unlockable. There were 2041 coins in the Japanese version of the game, so the theory was that if you collected every single coin and then beat the game, you could play as Luigi. It was one of the earliest and most widespread video game internet rumors I can remember.

Yep that's it.

That's up there with the 'mew hidden under the truck' for pre-datamining internet rumors. Nothing like that really happens anymore because people just take a peek in the code and go "nope, no Luigi".

It says more about the characters than the series actually. It's basically like getting mad at someone who doesn't know who Young Cricket is in the Wario Ware games. Who's gonna give a damn about a minor character, unremarkable in appearance and in a series with no real main characters. Don't use the on the box argument because we saw how that worked out with Chrom.

The characters appeared in a constant barrage of ads, and was a major proponent of the ads in all regions for the game. They even made an appearance in Game & Wario. What more do Chorus Kids need to do to "justify" a role in Smash Bros.? "No main character" is the most pitiful excuse to exclude the entire cast of characters from Rhythm Heaven.
