Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Did Wario's classic alt ever get a trophy in Brawl? If not I don't think there's really a precedent to go off whether alts will just have collectible trophies or if you'll have to do something specific with the character they're tied to.

Plus why else would Larry be in Bowser Jr.'s clown car when he's never been in it in any actual Mario games?

Also, even considering that Larry is in a special blue clown car that he's never had before, the thing even has the same little feet as Bowser Jr.'s car.

I went and finally beat Xenoblade today, as I figured today was a fitting day to do so. It was fantastic. I'm glad Shulk is on the roster.

Yeah, I played through Xenoblade because I figured Sakurai was going to spoil things (Lucina did call Chrom "Father" in her trailer) and, well, a hundred hours later, I'm pretty damn hyped to have him in Smash.

Now that you've beat Xenoblade, are there any elements in it that you'd imagine Sakurai spoiling in Smash Bros? I mean, Lucina's identity is a spoiler in and of itself, so that much was inevitable. But is there anything comparable in Xenoblade?

Brawl just casually shoves your face in Mother 3's entire end-game and plot twist in the first hour of SSE.

Sakurai don't give no shits if you aren't keeping up to date with your Nintendo lore.

It's not a GameCube controller though

Right. It's better.

I was in love with cube for smash, but I recently got the pro controller. It's more comfortable, and the shoulder buttons and sticks are better. Never thought there could be a better controller for smash until now.

Most of it is very, very late game, but there are certain characters he could show (maybe through Final Smashes or Trophies) that would be huge spoilers if he showed them in certain forms.

Overall, I love it!
  • Shulk - Unfortunately, I've never played Xenoblade, so Shulk doesn't really do much for me. That said, it could work out that playing as him in Smash will inspire me to check out the original game, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
  • Pac-Man - My brother and I have a slightly irrational hatred of Pac-Man (we were probably scarred by Pac-Man Fever...), but I applaud Sakurai for taking a character I dreaded from seeing in Smash and turning him into a clever celebration of retro gaming.
  • Bowser Jr. - Another one of those "oh, no" characters, I was pleasantly surprised by the ingenious way in which Sakurai designed Bowser Jr. as a fighter. The Koopa Clown Car is a brilliant homage to both SMW and NSMB, and I'm really looking forward to checking him out!
  • Wii Fit Trainer - Easily the biggest surprise of E3 2013 for me. I would have never dreamt I would see her in Smash, but she makes the transition almost too smoothly. Aesthetically speaking, I'm not crazy about her design, but I'll definitely be testing her out.
  • Villager - I always thought an AC rep would be an ideal candidate for a character, and I had all but given up hope when Sakurai said AC was "not suitable for Smash", but lo and behold! Every aspect of the character is just oozing with charm, and I love how Villager is the perfect embodiment of everything AC. Really excited to try him out!
  • Mega Man - Honestly, I'm just surprised it took this long to see the Blue Bomber in Smash, haha. It's so great to see how his moveset draws from bosses throughout the series, and his design being based off of his original NES look is icing on the cake. Looks to be a lot of fun to play as well!
  • Rosalina & Luma - As a character, I think the puppet setup is a stroke of genius. What a clever way to devise her moveset while remaining faithful to the feel of the original character! I think her playstyle will take some getting used to, but I consider that steep learning curve a welcome challenge.
  • Palutena - MY GODDESS HATH RETURNED! Seriously, the original (fake) leak had me so pumped, and the real character definitely delivers. I'm thrilled to see one of my favorite games get more representation, and I love how her moveset includes just about every powerup from the game. Really excited to play as her!
  • Little Mac - My love <3 Seriously, I've been pushing for this guy to join the fray for years now, so his reveal was probably the most satisfying of all for me. He plays just like I imagined he would, and his model looks so great. AND THE PINK SWEATSUIT! I can't express enough just how thrilled I am to have Little Mac in Smash. He is my Smash 4/5 bae <3 <3 <3
  • Duck Hunt - I've always hoped to see the dog make it into Smash in some form, and I'm thrilled that dream is finally becoming a reality. The mere possibility of him playing like some sort of Banjo-Kazooie pair character has be quivering in anticipation. Plus, the design is absolutely adorable! Really pumped to take this guy for a test drive--er, test walk?
  • Lucina - I was upset to see Sakurai defending a clone so adamantly, but after playing FE:A, I understand all the hype. As a character, I think she's great, but I'm admittedly a little disappointed to see that she's so similar to Marth. I'll withhold passing judgment until I get my hands on the game, though.
  • Greninja - As a member of #TeamChespin for life, I was initially hesitant to latch onto the shinobi frog, but I've developed a newfound appreciation for this little amphibian. He's a lot of fun to play as, and I agree that he is truly an ideal representative for the 6th Generation of Pokemon. I'll definitely be using him a lot!
  • Mii Fighters - I've never been crazy about the way Miis look--they're a little uncanny (in the unpleasant/creepy sense), but after seeing gameplay clips and considering the exciting possibilities afforded by custom avatars, I've warmed up to the idea of including these guys in Smash. Plus, their movesets look to be quite creative and fun to use.
  • Robin - One word: incredible. I had never even touched a Fire Emblem game before this summer, but one look at his reveal trailer was all it took because I immediately hopped onto Amazon and ordered a copy of FE:A. The game itself did not disappoint and even served to increase my hype for this guy. I always thought a mage character would be a cool addition, and Robin is nothing short of brilliant. Really excited to try him out!
  • Dark Pit - It's funny: despite being a huge KI:U fan, Dark Pit still doesn't quite sit well with me. The problem is that there are so many brilliant characters in the game that it feels like a bit of a copout to include a clone character instead of someone like Viridi or Phosphora. Perhaps he will play differently enough that he will be able to justify his own inclusion, but I'm not holding my breath.
You should fix that

Hmm, interesting. And as Dicks Ahoy noted, Sakurai didn't shy away from end-game spoilers in Mother 3 (see: New Pork City). It'll be interesting to see what happens.

For Smash I'll be getting every amiibo except Samus, ZSS, Robin, and Lucina.

Has it been revealed what 10 amiibos will be available at launch?

Final Smash may be
chain attack with Mechon Fiora
or just
Monado III
.

My guesses are:

Pretty much what AlbertoSaid

Honestly, I would've been happy with Bowser Jr. simply being a smaller, faster Bowser...or Baby Bowser for another Yoshi representative.

In fact, when Bowser was revealed to have slimmed down a bit for Smash 4, I even thought Jr.'s chances were pretty much shot since that was his niche gone.

So, so, so, so, so glad they actually made him a completely unique character. I can't WAIT for his reveal trailer. Speaking of which, today's the day Sunshine came out in the US!

Series 1 of Amiibo is 14 characters. Is it safe to assume that there will be 4 series of Smash Amiibo? 14(4) = 56, which is around the ballpark of how many playable characters Smash 4 is going to have.

I think they'll lower the amount of future character amiibo batches to make it 5+ series.

Congratulations! Our Xenoblade tribe is increasing! :p

With Shulk being "official" due to the leaked video, I really hope we'll get another Xenoblade character as well. Can't really go wrong with any of the other 6 characters.

I was honestly expecting Bowser Jr. to show up as a reskin of Squirtle when they revealed transformations were out and they went with keeping Charizard instead.

I'll gladly take this instead.

I'm trying to finish Xenoblade before Smash 3DS drops.

I'm at the part where there are elevators. Switches. Elevators. Switches. My god there are a lot of elevators and switches.

I don't know if I'm close to the end.

I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was
very good
but also
sorta overrated
given the hype. Definitely put me in a big mood for Star Fox afterwards though, which is how I'm justifying this post being in a Smash OT.

potd feels pointless now
No way! Even with the huge info leak, Sakurai's little text quips often hide somewhat interesting details that pictures alone do not encapsulate.

Hell, he can stop doing informative PotDs and just start posing characters in silly little pantomimes like he did for Melee (I think), that'd be fine by me.
Well, no, it wouldn't, but it'd beat ceasing it entirely.

Tons.

Notably, I think mentioning anything that happens in the last fifth of the game would qualify.

RE: my most desired Xenoblade stage... Yaldabaoth / THE MECHONIS HEAD
The stage is set during the battle with Egil as he takes control of Mechonis. Occasionally a premonition would appear and the players would have to destroy the 3 crystals before EVERYTHING GETS FREAKING DESTROYED

Can anybody identify the Monado abilities Shulk cycles through, other than speed?
The video shows 4 or 5 Monado glyphs/runes/symbols, but it's too fuzzy and I don't want to go frame-by-frame to match them.

If you're talking about
Mechonis Field
, you're getting there but still have a decent amount of game ahead of you.

That's just like near the beginning if it's in the
mines of Colony 6.

Edit: A little more than halfway through if it's on the Central Factory.

I dunno, sounds more like
Mechonis Field
to me.

And if that is where it is, then you're about 60-75% through the game.
Okay, no, that's actually AFTER that one. Yeah, 75% or so. Be sure to wrap up your expiring quests soon;
something really big happens in Mechonis Core that handily explains why they expire, as well as opening up the final 20% of the game. However, you still have to go through Agniratha
.

Alright guys, obviously anything could change, but if this is indeed our final list of newcomers:

srouvc.png

How do you feel Smash 4 did with it's newcomer selection? I made this picture so you try and think of the newcomers as a whole, not just the ones leaked.

Me personally? A few missed opportunities aside, fucking stoked. 15 new fighters is nothing to scoff regardless of clones, and you could even bump that number to 17 if you count the Mii Fighter as 3 different characters.

I'm pretty damn happy.

We've got Punch-Out, Animal Crossing and Wii ___ represented which were the biggest gaps in represented IPs.

Most of the best Nintendo games of recent years are shown off with Rosalina representing Galaxy, Shulk representing Xenoblade, Palutena and Dark Pit representing Uprising, and Robin and Lucina representing Awakening. Just missing Skyward Sword, DKCR and Rhythm Heaven reps (Impa, Dixie Kong and Chorus Kids please be real!).

Mega Man and Pac Man represent third parties much better than Sonic and Snake imo. They're a big part of Nintendo (more so Mega Man), rather than the Sega and Playstation icons we got in Brawl.

Then Greninja is one of the best designed Pokemon ever, and Duck Hunt Dog is an awesome new retro rep.

Bowser Jr is the only real odd choice, there doesn't seem to be a good reason for him to be in other than Sakurai having a good idea for how he plays, which works for me, the Clown Car moveset looks incredibly fun.

Would have loved to see Paper Mario and Ganon
and Wonder Red
, but overall I'm very satisfied with the newcomers.
