Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

Man, considering Xenoblade crazy release history, how crazy is it to see Shulk in a Smash Bros. game? So pumped!

Honestly, considering the roster was likely decided on awhile back, I don't think Xenoblade's "crazy release" was even a factor.

I mean it was a big JRPG exclusively for the Wii by the Xeno-dude, I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai wanted to use the MC from it back when it was still known as Monado.

If Alph turns out to be a thing I was kinda hoping Brittany and Charlie would be too, but I imagine Charlie would be a little bigger and venture into "different properties so separate character" territory.

Which is a shame cause I'd take all three of them as alts even if Charlie were weirdly small and the same weight as the others.

The two NSMB stages (Golden Plains and Mushroom Kingdom U) are perfect in light of Bowser Jr. and the alleged Koopaling alts.

To be honest, I could really do without the Golden plains stage. Feels unnecessary after all the other Mario stages in Smash 3DS.

So why did Xenoblade ended up getting so much recognition over the other Wii-exclusive Nintendo-published jRPGs, Pandora's Tower and The Last Story?

It was developed by a first party studio rather than just Nintendo published.

There's a sequel in the works.

And most importantly, it was fantastic whereas the other two were just merely ok.

The problem is that even in Japan it's hella expensive. :/

Woah, and I thought video games in Japan drop in price easily over time.

So why did Xenoblade ended up getting so much recognition over the other Wii-exclusive Nintendo-published jRPGs, Pandora's Tower and The Last Story?

Probably due to the critical acclaim XC received worldwide. The Last Story was kind of extreme depending on taste (some thought it was the best, others thought it was the worst) and Pandora's Tower was a bit lost to the popularity of the other two. I wouldn't mind (and very much appreciate!) Aeron as a playable character in Smash too.

The only reason Bowser Jr. was hated is he was thought to have "replaced" the Koopalings, now that they're back, it seems like the hate has subsided a bit.

But I never got the hate. And from what I hear, doesn't Japan react more positively towards Jr.?

Xenoblade blew up in the west the same time Sakurai would have been deciding on the roster

True, but it's still crazy to me thinking back to the Operation Rainfall days of people not thinking this would even come to the US and then coming to today and seeing him in one of Nintendo's biggest games. Sort feel the same way about Greninja; when the leaks were happening, people were railing on his design, and now that design is in beautiful HD in Smash. :P

I played and beat The Last Story and Pandora's Tower long before Xenoblade, though I got all three of them on the day of release. I pushed hard for Pandora's Tower during the days of Operation Rainfall, because it was the underdog. I've enjoyed all three games very much.

I used to really not like Bowser Jr. for that very reason, but he's earned his place with him in the Galaxy and NSMB series. He's grown on me a lot, to the point I missed his inclusion in MK8.

You're leaving Louie out? Poor little guy always getting left out

The huge open world stuff may have helped though.

Mentioning Mega Man supposedly becoming a ban-able offense by the tail-end of the Brawl Dojo days on GAF is funnier to me considering how he was revealed right off the bat this time around.

Yeah, that's a pretty silly reason to hate Bowser Jr. The Koopalings were pretty well forgotten long before he came on the scene.

But I think a lot if people simply found him annoying. Hearing him go on about "Mama Peach" in that high-pitched voice probably didn't win him too many fans.

Debuting in the worst 3D Mario didn't help, though I'm more just 'fine' with him after the Koopalings rightfully came back. His moveset does look really cool in Smash though, so I'm glad I have the option to swap him out for Mario characters I actually like instead of merely tolerating.

Why

What makes this different from the 4 (or for some, 5) AM PotDs!? Stop giving us false hope!!

EDIT: All this Xenoblade talk is making me fear for spoilers, so I should totally start playing it soon.

As a filler question, who here owns a game in every series ever represented in Smash Bros. by a playable character? (I do)

I've never played or owned Wii Fit or a ROB compatible game if those count.

The aesthetic of Sticker Star are quite pleasant, so I don't mind it.

I guess so. I just wish the SS Flavion was a standalone stage because TTYD <3

Also Paper Mario 64 is my favorite game of all time and I hope it gets represented too. If not with a stage segment, at least with some good trophies.

That makes no sense. Outside of the spin-offs and the first NSMB, how in the world would the Koopalings have worked in the games Jr. was in? Jeez Internet, even I'm not THAT irrational.
