Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

I remember because he made a lot of appearances in games right after Sunshine, a bit like Rosalina, so people felt he was being overused.

Sunshine, Mario Kart, Mario Pinball iirc, Mario and Luigi 2, Power Tennis, Brawl, and a few others.

Now he's basically disappeared again. :(

Petey will live on in our hearts.

And Shiny Petey Time.

Which is funny, because Petey was hugely popular in the wake of Sunshine. He was in every spinoff game on the GCN, and I remember people on Mario fansites falling all over themselves about how great he was. Once the Wii era came about, however, public opinion did a 180. I think people were just exhausted at how overexposed this character, whose only unique features were that he didn't live in a pipe and his name was Petey, had become.

I always thought Petey was a girl because it sounded like a girly name and "she" had what appeared to be panties on.

Apparently it is a girl in some countries.

I love how the roster has like 51 characters yet some people disappointed. I'm not sure if this speaks well about Nintendo's huge amount of good characters or people are just whiny.
Definitely the former. There are still plenty of good characters that are viable candidates for the next Super Smash Bros. title. Nintendo truly is the greatest gaming company on the planet.

He's in Sticker Star and Mario Party 10. hurray?
No hurray, because both of those games look awful >:I

Probably the latter

I hope by the next game we've got a lot of new, strong, fresh faces.

Splatoon and S.T.E.A.M. has potential. Here's hoping Dillon expands to a full game soon that solidifies him as a mascot.

Oh, and Mallo from Pushmo. Actually we've yet to see him in any form, I honestly think he could have a chance.

First time posting in one of these threads! Been lurking for the past 4 threads or so, though.

I wasn't really a huge Shulk fan for a good chunk of Xenoblade, honestly. He didn't really click with me until well, probably the biggest spoiler in the entire game. The entire last 20% or so of Xenoblade is so fucking good. Now he's the newcomer I'm most excited to play.

The Epilogue theme is such a good piece of music too. I need to find some time to listen to the whole OST one day.

True story: I could never figure out how to play Duck Hunt when I was a kid because I didn't own the zapper and didn't know it existed, but I still have a huge sense of nostalgia for it.

This logic is horrible. The alternative to Dark Pit is literally getting no one instead. It's not like he was like, "hmm, I could make K. Rool, but I think I will make Dark Pit instead."

There is nothing wrong with clones.

We don't even know if he's a straight clone, gameplay wise.

I mean he's a Sakurai character, I could see him getting more love than Ganondork.

Welcome!

Yeah, agreed, the end game makes Shulk super, super cool in my book. And the spoiler your referring to is what made me really want him for Smash.

That wasn't Jr. in Partners in Time, it was Baby Bowser.

And even then there'll be even more candidates that don't even exist yet by then.

Shulk, Robin, Lucina, Dark Pit, Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer, Mii and Greninja were either non-existent or too recent when Brawl rolled around, and Palutena was a nobody. That's almost two thirds of the newcomers this time around lol.

Inkling is already a new character that I think is a lock for Smash 5.

Shulk doesnt have anything to dislike about him, at worse he is possibly the least interesting of his group of friends but isnt anything bad

I find Sharla to be the least interesting.

I'd rank them as such, spoilars:

Reyn > Riki > Dunban > Melia > Shulk > Fiora > Sharla

All great though.

I owned the zapper and still sucked at it.

I always held the gun right up to the television screen to aim. Easy Mode.

Greetings, lurker!
You all are really tempting me to listen to all of this
I think I will ;)

I rationalize Bowser Jr. as the 'New Super Mario Bros' newcomer and Rosalina as the 'Mario Galaxy / 3D World' newcomer. Who else from the Mario series has had the amount of exposure these two have had since Brawl? Makes it feel more appropriate to me.

Yeah, Bowser Jr. and Rosalina have become Mario Platformer Series Staples. Add the fact that Bowser Jr.'s alts are supposedly the Koopalings and now you've also got an indivisible set of seven popular Mario characters into Smash who go back to SMB3 and SMW without wasting seven slots for them. Rosalina, Bowser Jr. and the seven Koopalings added to Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser make up the entirety of unique named characters in the Mario Platformers. The only one missing who aren't merely in the Sports games who is missing now is Toad.

...and Birdo.

Dark Pit's existence is basically a big meta joke on the whole dark clone of the protagonist trope, along the lines of Nega-Scott from Scott Pilgrim. Be glad its him, an original character with his own personality and traits, and not something like Dark Link getting hus own slot. Plus I'm really happy he will most likely have his own voice acting.

but toad is in the game

I own Duck Hunt but only have really vague memories of playing it when I was like, 3 or 4 or something because I lost the zapper sometime before the period of time where I have vivid memories of (5 years old), and after that I never played it.

That makes no sense. Outside of the spin-offs and the first NSMB, how in the world would the Koopalings have worked in the games Jr. was in? Jeez Internet, even I'm not THAT irrational.

It's the internet, what do you expect? Nintendo has done everything to make Bowser Jr into a likeable and unique character since his debut like giving him the mech expert gimmick. They also brought back the Koopalings and perfectly incorporated him as part of the group. Hell, Ninty also gave him the greatest music theme in the Mario series. What more can you people want?

Things in games that are actually lazy:

- Known-Shippables; Bugs that they know about but don't have the time or want to expend the effort to fix. As consumers, we will almost never know about these.

- Junk data that is easily found and not removed. This has almost no effect on you as a consumer.

Things in games that aren't lazy but people attribute to laziness:

- Budget limits
- Limits within hardware
- Things developers make to add content to the game but isn't as fully-fleshed as everything else in the game.

Things crazy people attribute to laziness:

- Anything they don't like.

Yup! This sums up the next few weeks of roster talks.

I think Dr. Mario falls under junk data.
