Dude that fucking amazing DLC for MK + the update are trying to steal our thunder.

Btw: wtf's wrong with that PotD? Sakurai must hate us so bad right now :/

I'm sorry Mr. Sakurai, God knows I didn't want to know all there is yet, it just... kinda happened

Don't you lie... you saw it, and you loved it.

How many challenges were in Brawl? 35 seems like such a low number, especially after Sakurai hinted that they aren't too difficult. EVENT MODE BETTER MAKE UP FOR THIS.

The new music sounds great, but we peaked at Bath Time.

Well, looks like some of Ganon's moves have at least increased range... Hopefully...

... *Sigh*

I know that feel

Damn Mario Kart DLC is getting me pumped for Smash DLC. PLEASE let it happen somehow.
I'd be fine if it didn't but still it'd be amazing.

I don't know if anyone noticed but:
4/35 pieces unlocked. The 5th piece is shining.
It's ~35 more days till US-release
So a new character on the 5th of these 35 days - starting from 29th (from where it's 35 more days till october 3rd - US release date, this makes it September the 3rd.

Metroid Other M is a massive pile of coiled turds that will never dislodge from each other enough to actually flush.

"R-......Ridley?!"

"R-......RIDLEY?!?!?"

My thoughts on the leaked characters:

Shulk: YES!! I've expected him ever since the second part of the Gematsu leak surfaced, and after playing Xenoblade Chronicles he's become one of my most anticipated potential newcomers! We've seen a bit of his gameplay but it's still hard to tell exactly how he'll play, but his Monado Arts mechanic seems really fun and interesting. I wonder just how many of the Monado's abilities will be represented in his move set, and in what way. I'm also curious about his alternate costumes, which I hope includes his armor (or lack of armor ;D) from his game.

Bowser Jr.: I didn't expect Bowser Jr. at all, and he wasn't a character that I particularly wanted, nor did I think he deserved to be in Smash Bros. But I also didn't expect him to be in his Junior Clown Car if he did get in! It makes him a very interesting and unique character, and the addition of the Koopalings as alternate models for him essentially makes him an 8-in-1 character! I'm really excited to try him and the Koopalings out. Sure, it's ANOTHER Mario character, but it's another villain, too (or 8, if you count them separately, lol), and we need more of those!

Duck Hunt: As crazy of a choice as it seems, Duck Hunt Dog was actually a fairly common suggestion since the pre-Brawl days, so the idea of this character doesn't necessarily surprise me, but I never expected it to actually happen! In hindsight, it's a pretty darn good choice for a retro character, considering Duck Hunt is technically one of the best selling video games of all time... Of course, what intrigues me most is just how this character will play. The fact that the character is named "Duck Hunt" and not just "Duck Hunt Dog" or "Dog & Ducks" leads me to believe that this may be a three-part character: The dog, which is the main character that you directly control on stage; the ducks, which assist in moves (perhaps not cooperatively, but instead by provoking the dog in a game of cat and mouse—or dog and duck, rather); and the off-screen hunter, shooting into the screen as if it were really a game of Duck Hunt. Whatever the case, this will surely be a very interesting character.

Dark Pit: Again, another character that I didn't expect. Of course, prior to Lucina's reveal, I didn't think that this game would have clones, so I didn't even consider Dark Pit as a possibility. But I absolutely LOVE Kid Icarus: Uprising, and I love Dark Pit, too, so I'm definitely not complaining! And even if he is somewhat of a clone, I imagine he'll be different enough from Pit, considering that he has the Dark Pit Staff, not the Palutena Bow (or any bow for that matter) like Pit has, so at the very least some of his moves have to be different. I would think that Sakurai would give him some other weapons from Uprising for some of his special moves, too, possibly different weapon classes than the ones Pit uses.

Dr. Mario: Not a newcomer, of course, but definitely an unexpected returning veteran! I wasn't really a fan of Dr. Mario being his own character in Melee, and I didn't really want him to come back unless he was just an alternate costume for Mario, but I realize that in that case he would loose his unique properties like his Megavitamins...so I guess I kind of understand why Sakurai would decide to make him his own character again. I'm guessing he and Dark Pit are in the same boat as Lucina: Originally planned as an alternate costume, but ultimately fleshed out a bit more and given a separate slot due to slight differences in gameplay. And in that case, it would make characters like Dr. Mario, Lucina, and Dark Pit essentially "bonus" characters, and I can't really complain about that.

Of course, there are also the characters we HAVEN'T seen yet... While we don't know if there really are more characters than what we've seen in the leaked roster or not, I'd like to believe that there are a few more. Ideally, I'd hope that everyone from Brawl (except Squirtle and Ivysaur, since Pokémon Trainer is no more...) returns, plus Mewtwo, too, and there are a few additional newcomers that I'd really like to see as well... Here are my thoughts on some of them:

Dixie Kong / King K. Rool: With Kid Icarus having three characters, Fire Emblem having four, and Mario having a whopping SEVEN (and that's not including Yoshi and Wario), the Donkey Kong franchise feels lacking in Smash Bros. I think a third Donkey Kong character is overdue, and either Dixie Kong or King K. Rool would suffice. If Star Fox and Kirby got three characters, why shouldn't Donkey Kong? Dixie Kong would be unique by using her hair to attack, even if much of her move set ended up being based on Diddy's, plus she'd be adding another female to the roster, which is always welcome. King K. Rool has plenty of potential for a move set based on his various boss battles, and he'd make a great new villain character, of which we have too few of in Smash Bros.

Chorus Kids / Marshal: I thought that a Rhythm Heaven character being in Smash Bros. was merely a pipe dream, but as we've seen, quite a few leaks have mentioned the Chorus Kids or, to a lesser extent, Marshal. Either one would be fantastic, and I can imagine them representing the Rhythm Heaven series as a whole though their move set much like Mr. Game & Watch does with the various Game & Watch games. I really, really hope it happens. We've already seen a Rhythm Heaven enemy in Smash Run, so it may be a safe bet; however, we've also seen the Polar Bear from Ice Climber in Smash Run, and yet the fate of Ice Climbers in Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U is still up in the air. Speaking of which...

Ice Climbers: I understand Squirtle and Ivysaur being cut since transforming/switching characters—and with that, Pokémon Trainer—is no more, and I would understand Snake's absence as well, given his third-party status. Even Lucas and Wolf being cut is somewhat understandable, being semi-clones that only have one Smash Bros. game under their belts, though the loss would be painful. But Ice Climbers, a starter character since Melee... Them being cut sounds insane. Of course, if it does happen, I'd imagine it's due to limitations of the 3DS version. However, if we were faced with two options—to have Ice Climbers be cut completely, or to limit the character to a single, solo Ice Climber—I would happily accept the latter. I actually liked playing as a solo Ice Climber in Smash Bros. when I lost Nana, and it just felt more...right, I guess, than commanding two Ice Climbers at once. After all, you never control both Ice Climbers at once in the original game. I'd be perfectly content with a buffed solo Ice Climber with a new Up Special (the Condor, obviously) if it came to that, and there's even one rumor out there that claims that may indeed be happening (though there's no real credibility to it, sadly). While it would mean a unique mechanic is lost (wouldn't be the first...*coughPokémonTrainercough*), at least the general move set would still be kept, and we'd still have our sole ice-based character. I'd certainly take that over the character being cut completely.

And, finally...

Mewtwo: Because DUH. It makes SO much sense for Mewtwo to return, because it's more relevant than ever now, having starred in a new movie and being featured in the latest Pokémon games—with not one, but TWO new Mega Evolutions at that! And since Generation V it's even gained a new signature move in Psystrike! Not to mention it's by far the most wanted cut Melee veteran character. Mewtwo has so much going for it right now, and I'll be really disappointed if Dr. Mario, another Melee veteran, returns after being cut in Brawl but not Mewtwo. If Mario can have SEVEN characters, then I think there's no problem with Pokémon having a sixth (especially considering that there were already six Pokémon characters in Brawl if you counted Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon separately).

Wii U challenges will be harder.. right

But just 35 challenges for 3DS? Well, maybe it is like Uprising, and more challenge boards can be unlocked..

I'm liking Try, Try Again and Bath Time Theme a lot because just like Brawl showed not every song for a stage needs to be a HYPE FIGHTING MUSIC song.

Great example with be Animal Crossing Title Theme from the Smashville stage.

I think almost any music can work if it is upbeat. I mean Mother 2 from Melee couldn't be described as "HYPE FIGHTING MUSIC" but its got enough of a beat to suit the action.

Whereas I'd argue Midna's Lament, no matter how nice the piece is, didn't suit the action of Smash. Especially when you know the reasons behind this piece in Twilight Princess.

However if it were arranged with a bit more of a kick it could work.

So really I'd say slow softly softly music is the only thing that does work. Everything else is fair game, which is great since it means we can have a wide variety of music and genres.

How many challenges were in Brawl? 35 seems like such a low number, especially after Sakurai hinted that they aren't too difficult. EVENT MODE BETTER MAKE UP FOR THIS.
Uprising had three different similar challenge boards that got progressively more difficult. Nothing stopping SSB4 doing the exact same thing per version, with this merely being the 'easy' challenge board out of three.

I'm really, really disappointed by Sakurai, probably the first time I've been this disappointed with anything he's done in Smash on 3DS. Why do the challenges have to be easy? Just make them hard! Don't call them challenges if they're simply going to be tasks.

I would seriously say that the Challenges window is Sakurai's biggest fuck-up in Smash 3DS on an objective scale if it was limited to 35 challenges. Challenges are effortless and give you tons of reason to push your limits. I would be downright livid if Sakurai made such a bone-headed decision.

I might have to play Metroid Prime again,

Like.... I just beat it a month ago again, but I might have to play it again.

and I'm trying to beat Echoes for the first time. I just love the first one so god damn much. It's perfect.

Hate this album and how much it makes me....

For Echoes, are you playing the GCN version or the Wii Trilogy? For Echoes, Trilogy is easier. They lowered the difficulty of some of the bosses/minibosses for that.

As for the first one, the original control scheme is the best. Wiimote doesn't really cut it for the war wasp boss.

So Brawl has 128 challenges. Kid Icarus: Uprising has 360.
I was relying on the challenges in this game to be my single player content since it doesn't seem like there's that much of it in the 3DS version. But 35 of them? And they're as easy as 'play target blast one time'?

I sure hope this is the first of about ten walls or something.

This is the first time the pic of the day has disappointed me in months. I'm unaccustomed to this feeling.

In all seriousness couldn't it 4/35 mean that's it's the 4th of 35 pages of challenges?

would you say he shot himself in the foot

Did some quick research on Nintendo's top Franchises. I wish it were more complete but data for other series was more difficult to find.

1.Mario- 445 Million
2.Pokemon- 260 Million
3.Wii- 193 Million
4.The Legend of Zelda-68 Million
5.Donkey Kong-54 Million
6.Kirby - 33 Million
7.Duck Hunt - 28 Million
8.Metroid- 18 Million
9.Star Fox- 12 Million
10. Animal Crossing- 7 Million

Some takeaways

-Mario may be overrepresented but with numbers like that its hard to argue he doesn't deserve it. Even if you limit yourself to just the Super Mario series its still Nintendo's best selling series at 262 Million Units sold
-The big three are Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda, although the Wii series sells better its seen as a casual series so usually isn't counted.
-Donkey Kong is definitely bigger than Kirby and Metroid, and is firmly planted at the top of the "A tier", if the big three make up the "S tier"
-Surprised to see Star Fox does so well
-Animal Crossing numbers are impressive given the age of the series

You forgot a really important one, I will ad to your quote.

Shit, not only PotD, but a gameplay element. I don't know who Sakurai is trying to appeal to by announcing that the challenges are easy. I wasn't kicking my heels every time I completed a challenge in Uprising that was well below my skill level.

Playing on the Trilogy. And honestly the difficulty's not my problem. I don't know what it is. Metroid Prime is my favorite game of all time. It lures me in like no other. There's something about Metroid Prime 2 that never has quite done the same for some reason, even though I like it.

I've beaten Metroid Prime 3 twice and I remember enjoying it, (even though it was a while ago) , so I don't know what was different. But I've beaten Metroid Prime 1 around 12 times or so. There's something about it, man.....

That wall is just for Bomb the Target, Homerun Smash and that third mode I forgot.

I actually like the idea of a unique pic for each successful challenge but other than that? I just don't see why this is supposed to be good. Is this to appeal to parents buying the 3DS one for their kids? This should be the smash bros for people who don't have friends who can do local multiplayer; but no apparently the good challenges are on the couch party game version. I just don't get it.

Huh? Do we know this for sure? Cus that would be a lot better...

Did people forget challenge walls were unlocked in KIU? For all we know that is wall one and there could be more to unlock when you've done the first 35.

I'd say wait and see before being completely disappointed.

Have you played Sanctuary Fortress yet? The boss of Sanctuary Fortress is the best boss in the history of video games.

Again; Uprising had multiple challenge walls. Collectively chill your tits fellas.
Three challenge walls of 120 challenges, yeah.
We'd need more than three of these to even match one Uprising wall and I just don't see there being the ten and a half or so we'd need to match Uprising fully. Hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

You know what's nowhere near this list? Kid Icarus. For any Dark Pit fans there's no real argument that he has earned the right to be in Smash. Love the roster but I'm still really annoyed by the shaft given to DK, Metroid, and Zelda.

I'll give Sakurai the benefit of the doubt for count, but the fact that he said that they would be easy (easier than the Wii U challenges anyway) has me preparing for utter disappointment with this game for the first time. If they're too easy, y'know, what's the point? Maybe the Wii U challenges are ridiculous, but cmon, Sakurai sounded like he was preparing people to be disappointed.
