Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

I was the opposite. I loved Zelda as a kid, while Mario was just something I was aware of and played here and there, but didn't really obsess over.

Mario has grown on me more and more though. I think the bite sized levels and objectives mesh better with me these days than most things. Just a few weeks ago I finished SMB3 for the first time (though I had played it on GBA a lot). Hopefully I can manage to finish SMB 1 without using the saves afforded by the GBC version.
Yeah another factor for me is that I fell away from nintendo when the ps1 hit but now I'm coming back to my roots. Having a little kid has also been a huge reason to return to nintendo. So much stuff we can enjoy together.

That Ridley analysis was pretty bad. Only the section at the end has any applicable reason.

The "Who's That Pokemon" features on Pokemon was not just a marketing thing for kids, it was actually the Pokemon show trolling you. If it were really Jigglypuff, they'd just say it!
You used to make such good points. What happened to you, ShockingAlberto?!

Pokemon and Sakurai are not the same thing. The bases for your comparison is dissimilar.

I was a PlayStation kid, just for Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. But when the series dies, I got a DS and Wii and started exploring Mario and Zelda.

It's dangerous to go alone.

Slightly related, I'd totally buy a Hyrule Warriors costume pack for Smash 4.

I really hope smash gets the support mario kart 8 is getting, even though mario kart 8 is strictly internal nintendo, so it's not entirely the same.

Smash 4 is basically contract work, so once it ends, who's to say what support there is, if the contract is extended, or if a new contract is made.

I really hope we get additions to smash 4 rather than making us wait 5-6 years for new stuff.

So you want some other company to make DLC characters?
That reminds me of those outsourced Disney sequels that go straight to DVD... Please no.

The Ridley analysis, in addition to being written by a fourteen year old who just discovered swear words, is poorly thought-out at nearly every juncture. It starts from the stance that Sakurai is a cartoon supervillain and bases every twist in logic on that. I am not sure why I need to give it a decent debunking instead of a dismissive joke and your criticism, from a person who claims I don't even understand aesthetics, isn't really spurring me on to do that.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'some other company' - considering SSB4's mainly the product of Namco staff, continuing to use them for DLC development would necessitate renegotiating the contract, if it wasn't already planned at the project's outset.

The thing that convinces me of Chorus Kids is Vaanrose. Vaanrose specifically mentions them in his(?) post as being what he imagines to be the kind of surprising characters Sakurai mentioned. Now, either Vaanrose knows that Chorus Kids are in, or he must believe that there are more characters that he had not yet seen.

I didn't say that at all.

We don't know when the contract w/ sakurai/namco bandai ends, but if it ends after Wii U release, I'd hope nintendo would extend it or make a new contract (with sakurai and team) for DLC stuff.

Wasn't there a job posting from Namco-Bandai for Smash 6? Was that confirmed real?

I'd love an "Ultra Smash Bros." with more characters, stages, gameplay balancing, etc. although I think a lot of people are turned off by the Capcom style of upgrades. Regular DLC would be fine, as well.

Yeah I always preferred the mario series growing up. But lately I've become interested in the zelda series

Me too. I was never able to appreciate Zelda games till after I was out of high school. Evolving tastes, I guess. The first one I played to completion was Twilight Princess. Now I adore the series, though I'm a bit more partial to the 3D Zeldas since those are the ones I played first.

The smart thing to do would be for Nintendo to bring in some of the new staff they've hired for the Kyoto office in to Namco's Tokyo HQ (which is where I assume development of this game is happening), let the Namco developers winding down their development teach the new hires about the game and their work, and have a dedicated internal Smash team for the next year when when development of the game wraps up at Namco.

I'm honestly OK with not having more characters (that weren't already planned) and saving those for the NEXT smash bros.

I'd like content like more modes, stages, costumes, items, pokeballs, assist trophies, etc.

I wouldn't say *NO* to more characters, but I'd be ok if all characters are already in the game, and the game's features are expanded.

It was pretty clearly a mistake. The popular (and probably correct) theory is it was hiring for Soul Calibur 6 and wires got crossed somewhere.

Seriously tho guys I needs me a second opinion on the Chorus Kids Vaanrose theory :v unless the thread poster added an ed. note w/o a noticce that it was an ed. note, Vaanrose definitely mentioned CK in the Facts section. Would Vaanrose have even mentioned CK if the information that he had felt complete to him?

I've been thinking about this and I think the perfect way to do this would be as a launch title for Nintendo's next handheld. Their next handheld will no doubt launch in either late 2015 or early 2016 and a Smash Bros title would be an amazing launch title to help push the system. What they could do is take all of the content from both the Wii U and 3DS versions and put them together in one single version while also including any DLC that might come out for the games as well as some extra content. I'd say a new mode or two, maybe 4-6 more characters, a couple new stages and maybe a few more classic stages would be good enough.

Where did you see that? I would imagine that he might be speculating unless he worded it differently.

Ha. When the final roster is known 100% this person's tears will taste so very sweet.

stopped reading there since it is universally accepted that this is the worst ridley model ever

I don't understand why 3D straw neck ridley doesn't get so much hate.
Just look at that neck. It makes no sense.
The Other M look at least has a bit more meat to make supporting is large head a tad more believable.

The original desigin was never meant to leave the 2D sprite base when I look at it.

The Prime Ridley Meta or Omega win my vote for best look though.

I assume if parts of HAL are in fact working alongside Namco to develop SSB4 like has been previously rumored, DLC duties could be given over to them.

Straw neck Ridley makes the character look more alien, though. Ridley has always been an enemy that was intimidating because he is more than just a beast, and having odd physical elements like an overly-thin neck emphasizes this.

Other M Ridley is downgraded to just another monster, like Kraid or Phantoon, both visually and through the plot. It eliminated much of the buildup that the other games give Ridley as a character - I mean, Fusion does the same thing purposefully, and the two designs share some distinct similarities.

It's off putting and vulture like, that's why it's a better design. The Other M Ridley is just a bad design.
Uh...spoilers, dude?
It's a weapon that was added with a free update...

I'll never agree that the Other M design is superior to the Super / Brawl one, but the Prime look is definitely the best. It manages to keep the skeletal leanness of the 2D incarnations, while still having proportions that don't look comical. The neck in particular is a good example - it's still fairly thin and has the bend, but it looks like it has substance to it, and is visibly integrated into the torso and head.

Agreed.

You'd think they'd have something worked out with the Smash team. Smash lends itself to DLC better than any game in the industry.

If you were just joking, then no worries.

In the post you just quoted of mine, I said the Ridley analysis is bad, so there's no disagreement there between us.

Aesthetics includes all matters of taste. Thus, if you think that preferring villains is not aesthetics, you do not know what aesthetics is.

Baby Ridley for Smash!
While we're at it, let's replace TP!Link with the CDi version. He's clearly the superior version, after all. He has voice acting! Voice acting automatically makes a character better!

In all seriousness, this was one of my biggest Smash-fears for a while. Adding Ridley as his godawful pre-evo forms in Other M would be... utterly detestable.

Man, Retro has amazing artists. I really wish we could see what their interpretation of regular Ridley would look like.

It's crazy to think the OT will be up in a week and some change. Let's try not to get to OT3 of that before the game even comes out.

Speaking of the Vaanrose stuff, do we know where he got his info? Are we to assume that the source is the same as Leaker 3 (or is in fact Leaker 3)?

Vaan said his source is not linked to these images in any way. He has a source that works at Nintendo's HQ specifically (the NoA offices). I recall him saying that the guy likely just overheard the information about Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt Dog -- as I think he said he isn't normally privy to that kind of info.

Yeah I knew people dislike him :p

Ridley is a hideous and totally uninspired character design so I'm glad he/she/it isn't included. The only other Metroid characters Sakurai should consider adding is the other bounty hunters or a space pirate IMO. Or maybe a miniature Kraid. lol

Like his design or not Ridley is very iconic in the Metroid universe and very important to the series overall story. Ridley is by far the most iconic Nintendo character not playable in Smash
