Well, what about Disney Magical World (Magic Castle) by Namco for 3DS? Which is a Nintendo published title here in the West too? That's a Disney title released on a handheld, after all.
And there's also the Frozen game for DS and 3DS licensed externally...but I'd tend to ignore that, to be honest
Still, KH main on a Nintendo handheld in addition to PS4 could be a good choice: there is an overlap between Nintendo and Disney audiences, and KH customers include Disney fans, not just SE fans, and it could help in Japan. Maybe, even outside of Japan, since KHDD sold well in US, despite mediocre numbers in the home country.

I'd generally like to think this deal was done with co promotion in mind which in theory would add visibility and help awareness/sales but I'm not in the market so I've only seen what Nintendo has gone online to promote it. I haven't seen anything in the US, but this is a japenese-led deal and in-game is done globally so that wouldn't mean much.

Gaming industry is becoming more and more western in their vibe and feeling. Japanese gamers, in their majority, aren't keen to this vibe and, right now, the current trent in the market is to be more and more western-like. Even major japanese developers are now following this model.
PS4 doing poorly there isn't because the home console market is dying. Actually, is a rejection for the current home console strategy, both from Nintendo and Sony. Wii U has a lackluster support from both Nintendo and third-parties, Sony is dedicating their efforts mostly (if not totally) to the western front, so the japanese market is left as secondary. This is a response for the situation.
PSV also has a poor support, as there isn't many BIG franchises there to appeal to the japanese core audience. PSV would be head-on against 3DS if they didn't lost Monster Hunter for Nintendo. That decision pretty much destroyed any chances for a PSV take off and now is struggling to find anything able to repeat the MH phenomenom, which was the reason why PSP made that miraculous turn around.
3DS is the only one able to sell decently around there, mostly because there's a solid support, strong IPs for that market and it's prospects. WiiU, PS4 and PSV has low prospects in comparison. I think blaming the mobile market as a "gaming killer" in Japan is very overrated. The line-up for all systems, besides 3DS, is the reason. Everything dropped in all honesty. It's the week after Obon (holidays) and it had two western games as its releases (one of which was a port/remaster, and another where the PS3 version was much cheaper).The PS4 got two new games released but still sold less than last week? what happened??
I wonder if Wii U can bounce back to 10k next week, or if PS4 can stay above 5k for any longer.
Also, the Vita turn around in Japan this year has been pretty remarkable considering where we were at last year!
my perspective on matters:
last gen the floodgates opened for pc developers on consoles. this is really what led to the western revolution in gaming on the xbox 360 and to a lesser extent the ps3. keep in mind that call of duty was originally a pc franchise that saw console spinoffs on the ps2, xbox, and gamecube. xbox had already been around a couple of years for the idea of these kinds of games to actually do well on consoles, as seen with games like halo, morrowind, and knights of the old republic. when the 360 released, some japanese third-parties were on board from the start, notably capcom. most of them were backing the ps3 if they were really backing anything at all.
when the ps3 was doing its best gamecube impression, i feel that budgets were higher than anyone really expected, but it was an easier transition for traditional western pc developers to make games on the 360 and the publisher make a quick buck with a sometimes shoddy port for the ps3 as well. it wasn't only the japanese developers who found hard times making games for these new architectures, but the traditional western console developers as well. thq and midway among many others met their end this way. other traditional companies like electronic arts and activision either purchased or merged with traditional pc companies. for japanese companies, the answer was also outsourcing to western studios and outright purchasing them.
the conservative element found that supporting what would be a 50m unit userbase in japan wasn't that bad of an idea when development costs would stay the same. this allowed japanese games to flourish on the psp and ds. the wii, for all it did to keep costs down, and despite its userbase advantage over the next nearest competitor, was never able to pull in the ps2 fanbase that seemed stuck on the psp and ps3. the result was a split between low-risk japanese-centric ventures for handhelds or high-risk/high-reward ventures for consoles, with a western lean to boot.
the current state of the industry has been long in effect. japan's split between console and handheld continues, but now there's also a split between mobile gaming and dedicated handhelds. and it seems that where in last gen the ps3 was the high risk unit, the same is true of dedicated handhelds as a concept. dedicated consoles essentially don't matter anymore because effort to appeal to a japanese audience and developers really went out with the ps2.
and that's on top of the general effect of the world as a whole not needing dedicated gaming devices anymore, but that is another story for another time.
I find that folks seem to give Monster Hunter all the credit for the PSP when there was some other really significant Japanese support for the PSP. Sure MH may have helped the PSP hit its near 20m, but there was also a ton of support from Square Enix among other companies (Dissidia, Crisis Core, FF Type-0 & Kingdom Hearts = exclusive PSP games, Tactics Lion was a good port/remake, ). You also had MGS: Peace Walker, Portable Ops, 5 Tales games (Eternia, Radiant Mythology 1, 2 & 3, Tales of Vs.) clearing 200K sales (there were 5 more games too). You had the original Little Battlers eXperience hitting over 500K in sales by 2011. I think the PSP had a decent variety of games. It got great JRPG support, had games not possible on other portables (MGS), MH took off (and God Eater followed soon after) so that even LBX could do well on the portable (keeping in mind the install base was pretty big at this point).
Sony managed to make a new portable (Vita) with basically no headliners and thought it'd sell somehow? If anything it shows that Sony's properties don't sell handhelds by themselves (thanks to the Vita), and even if they did, Sony barely tried.

It's worth noting that pretty much every person on the executive level of Disney who were responsible for making the Kingdom Hearts deal happen are no longer at Disney. The company's business engagement with regards to games has also changed very drastically in recent years. Considering how Kingdom Hearts 3 is supposed to be the conclusion of the ongoing storyline, I think it is very likely that the long term future of the franchise could be in doubt. It would obviously depend on how well KH3 sells, and also the specifics of S-E's contract with Disney, but it would not surprise me at all if the deal falls through eventually and the franchise just fizzles away.

PSP was struggling and lagging behind NDS for the first years. There wasn't a big hit for it until Monster Hunter Freedom/Portable 1 and 2 came out in 2006 and 2007, which were PSP's first million sellers. Most of the titles you mentioned, especially the top selling ones, came out after the MH craze. So yes, in a sum, MH was pivotal for PSP's take off.
Btw, I assume the Mario Kart DLC was also announced for Japan right? Also do things like DLC count for the "Road to TGS"?
