Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

That's the news I want to hear. I'll still like Bowser Jr. if it's just him, but if he has all of the Koopalings as alts, brace yourselves, because it will be Boots 2.0 for me.

For me, it would make it so that the Clown Car would become easily my most wanted to play character, along with DAT DOG. Even more so than Rockman, and that's saying quite a bit.

I just want that Shulk reveal trailer. He pretty much needs one since he's the one guy where even Nintendo-knowledgeable people will have no idea who the hell he is when they get the game, lol.

I won't be satisfied by anything less than Shulk battling "Mechon" R.O.B...

Makes you wonder if there *IS* shockingly little for smash online.

Considering how limited Smash online seems to be, there won't be anything other than For Fun and For Glory. Makes me sad that he couldn't let Namco handle the online modes themselves, at least then we'd get some actual rooms and lobbies.

I think Brawl's looks much worse in comparison.

3DS box looks as if they are all charging into a fight with serious expressions on their faces. Pretty cool.

Brawl and 64 had the best boxarts. This just looks lazy.

This is Nintendo, voice chat isn't going to happen.

Can the 3DS do four way voice chat? I know in Pokemon X and Y you can chat during 1v1 one matches, but not 4 way battles.

Going to reiterate we still know shockingly little about Smash online.

All I ask is that I can invite a friend to be a 2v2 team with me in With Anyone, but after hearing Kid Icarus Uprising didn't have this feature I'm really worried we won't get it. I'll play the hell out of the game regardless but 2v2 with friends against strangers is such an awesome and almost essential feature; even garbage like Playstation All-Stars and Street Fighter X Tekken got lots of play time out of me just because teaming up with friends is so fun. I will legitimately be disappointed if this isn't in the game.

I don't think you have to worry much about that, no reason there'd be a Larry trophy in a blue version of the Koopa car otherwise.
Yeah, he's never appeared in a Clown Car by himself before, so I'd say that's solid evidence. But I want to make sure that ALL seven Koopalings are present and accounted for as playable alts.

My big fear is no voice chat on either version.

I'm not expecting it, it's also not a dealbreaker for me. I know I wouldn't ever ever use it on 3DS, and very likely wouldn't use it much on Wii U. I don't like talking when playing online unless it's really close friends/family, but that's just me.

Assumptions, assumptions everywhere!

The annoying thing is going to be having to add a load of people to be able to play with decent rules with a variety of people.

I can't remember what the 3DS/WiiU friend limit is but I can imagine it being annoyingly small for this sort of thing and definitely much, much more painful than just using an MK8 style community thing.

I mean I'm definitely going to be sticking to local for my competitive fix, but it would have been nice to just join a group and play competitively rather than have to add someone I may never play with again or play that awful for glory compromise.

Yep. At least there's always Skype.

Yeah, 'cuz Pokemon and Mario Kart don't have voice chat, or anything...

It's also shocking to me how many of you seem to want to listen to a bunch of 12 year olds try out the curse words they just learned, but hey, to each their own!

Whatever happened to playing multiplayer in the same room with people, huh? :P

Literally everything else but his head look fine. That sucks. Good thing it's something we'll get past during regular gameplay. Still though, what the hell, he looks fine in the 3DS version.

His head is entirely fine (and much better than the botox lip disaster that was SS Link) except for the eyes and particularly eyebrows. They're both way too angled, with the eyebrows making him look angry and the eyes like a fox or something. And we already have a Fox!

Weirdly enough, people before were discussing that they disliked him for looking too feminine. It's the opposite! Those angry eyebrows are unbecoming of the normally gentler Link, and make me think of American Kirby.

I bet by 2026 or later, half the roster will canonically only be about 10 or so people:

Mario: Dr. Mario, Paper Mario, FLUDD Mario
Luigi: Poltergust Luigi
Peach: Cat Suit Peach
Yoshi: Yarn Yoshi
Link: Toon Link, Young Link, Fierce Deity Link
Zelda: Sheik, Tetra, Fencing Zelda
Samus: Zero Suit Samus, Dark Samus-ish
Kirby: Yarn Kirby, Clay Kirby
Pit: Dark Pit, Pit with New Malibu Stacy Hat
Palutena: Pseudo Palutena
Pikachu: Cosplay Pikachu
Donkey Kong: "We feel as though Donkey Kong is overly represented as is. Sorry everyone!"

Just like in Mario Kart 8, Cat Suit Peach for Smash would be spectacular. Adorable cat swipes and a homing jump plus Peach's cat float! Just stay away from Google Images.

If there's voice chat in smash, I don't see sakurai putting it into 'with anyone'.

If bullying via miis is a thing, voice chat won't be a thing.

Also I seem to remember the game ending on a really weird cliffhanger and Miyamoto going on about something being hidden, did anything ever come of that?

I believe you're referring to the number data files, which unlock special videos from
Olimar's data logs from before he was captured
when accessing the JP Pikmin 3 site on the Gamepad. Unfortunately, I believe they only unlock one random video per game and at least one was never officially released, so it's best to just look them up on Youtube.

And if you're referring to
the Pikmin chasing the ship crashing at the end, people are theorizing that apparently they caused that?

Many things regarding Pikmin 3, such as the theater shorts and Iwata Asks, sadly never came to light :'(. At least we got an incredible game out of it; I play mission mode almost every weekend.

If they don't allow Miis in For Everyone, there is no way in hell they'd allow voice chat anyway, so no danger of 12 year olds.

Sorry, do we know anything about playing online and what rules you'll be able to set up? Serious question because a) I don't remember that and b) that would suck :(

You could just mute in that case then, why limit options?

Dude, Playstation All-Stars online is so funny because of the idiots on mic. On 2v2 almost everyone was on mic too, to coordinate with their partner I guess. Even though I despise that game now it was always hilarious to hear people scream in rage over their own mistakes or jump on the mic yourself and mess with them.

Imagining that in Smash honestly makes me so disappointed it probably won't be possible.

Fucking Cartoon Network Punch-Time Explosion could handle tag-team characters and a transformation character with five forms on the 3DS in 2011.

Sakurai LITERALLY is a hack.

Assuming this isn't sarcasm, posts like these are why lots of developers seemingly don't like GAF. That other game you cited doesn't even have online play :/ (to say nothing of the fact that by all accounts it sucks)

But sacrificing a character in the version capable of handling them just to adhere to parity between two disparate versions is pretty dumb. The two versions should play to their own strengths, not be slave to the other's weaknesses.

The 3Ds version becomes a hard sell if its perceived as the strictly inferior version (as opposed to an alternate version), at least right out of the gate. IF the Ice Climbers are cut and IF its because of the 3DS version (which remains speculation I might add), Ice Climbers DLC might come the the Wii U version months later after the bulk of sales are probably done.

Sakurai mentioned online when Smash Run was first revealed during the Smash direct.
People keep saying this, but I don't remember it. And I should considering how important it would be to me.

Have shit internet right now, so I can't even see the video for myself. >_<

I'm actually probably not going to get proper internet again until around October 9th. So I hope the Smash Tourney/Sisters Tourneys don't start before then...

I didn't know Pokemon does, but Mario Kart only has it in the lobby.

I don;t want voice chat to be activated while playing with randoms, but it would be nice to have the option when playing with friends.

Assumptions, assumptions everywhere!

We're 2 weeks away from release and they haven't talked about online since April. Sorry if I don't trust Sakurai to include standard online multiplayer features. The fact that we don't know if we can customize matches in "For Fun-With Friends" doesn't help either.

Oh yeah that random video rubbish.

I seem to remember the ending monologue thing questioning what caused the S.S. Drake to crash but nothing was ever said about it
wasn't necessarily talking about the crash at the end, I thought that was just saying that the Pikmin species has begun to instinctively go to crash sites because of how common it is for the crash to end up having helpful people near it.

You could just mute in that case then, why limit options?

Yeah, of course, that's a valid point. I'm just not upset about the lack of it. I've literally had zero good experiences chatting online in games, the only exception being when I set up a skype or ventrillo call with friends only.

If Sakurai cut Ice Climbers instead of adjusting them, then it's his fault, not the 3DS'. Sakurai didn't cut Sheik or Zero Suit Samus, why did he cut Ice Climber?

Because maybe adjusting them defeats the whole purpose of them?

Splitting zelda/sheik doesn't defeat the purpose of zelda. Splitting Samus/ZSS doesn't defeat the purpose of samus.

He already *CUT* pokemon trainer, because the whole purpose of him (switching between pokemon) was eliminated. Now it's just charizard (and maaaaybe squirtle/ivysaur).

Making it ONE ice climber... might as well be a mii with a hammer and ice attacks for all I care.

Pokemon's if weird. If I remember right, it doesn't even tell you it's activating voice chat, but when you go to trade with a friend, suddenly you can hear each other over the 3DS microphone... I was trading with my brother and suddenly heard someone breathing in the room with me... it was creepy.

Haha, "helpful people". More like "people who will gladly sacrifice hundreds of our species to make a quick buck."

Assumptions with some reasoning behind them, but still assumptions :)

If you're losing Pikmin, you're doing it wrong. Or maybe just speedrunning or something.

Also Pikmin 1 showed that the arrival of Olimar gave pikmin the confidence to standup to the oppressive bulborbs by themselves! So having a bit of leadership now and then is good for them.

I really love the Pikmin franchise, any sci-fi game with a solo protagonist on an alien planet is instantly appealing to me, Pikmin and Metroid are easily my favourite Nintendo franchise with DK second.

Can't even begin to understand how pleased I was that Olimar was in Brawl, shame a lot of people seemed to hate him though.

Also at the start of sm4sh hype when there were people saying he would be replaced with alph, the thought of that made me mad.

I know the roster is going to be the same across both versions, but why can't a solo Ice Climber be in the 3DS version while dual Ice Climbers be in the Wii U version? It's not like there's cross play or anything.

Technically by making ICs only one character they'd be closer to their actual game since there's no tag mechanic there. Besides, seeing as Sakurai is willing to completely change characters to make them work in Smash 4 (removing transformations, nerfing Olimar's Pikmin, getting rid of Pokemon Trainer) it wouldn't be that out there.

I've always preferred SoPo so the change wouldn't bother me that much.

Yeah, this. The limit is 100 for both systems, and I can't see myself keeping a bunch of people on here who I won't be playing to often with.

If you're losing Pikmin, you're doing it wrong. Or maybe just speedrunning or something.

Nothing wrong with 'doing it wrong,' as you put it. One of the main attractions of the game is to learn how to handle situations/enemies. Using pikmin in the 'wrong' way will cause you to lose pikmin, but you should LEARN from your experience so that you lose less pikmin in the future.

No need to insult/belittle people for 'doing it wrong.'

For Fun and For Glory are just preset modes to play with strangers online. For Fun/Glory aren't for playing with friends. When playing with friends you manually set the rules like in Brawl.

You do not understand online play.

Some people live very far away from their friends. They cannot play in the same room as them. Online play helps alleviate this problem.

I don't want to listen to 12 year olds. I want to be able to play with my friends who live far away and TALK to them while playing the game. If you can't talk to them you might as well be playing against/with randoms.

Also Mario Kart 8 only has voice in the lobby. So for 10% of the time you can talk with your friends. Terrible design choice.

I don't know if Smash will have in game chat, in lobby chat, or no chat at all. What I do know is that its absolutely ridiculous that Nintendo doesn't have some form of system wide chat function. The industry has had this for literal YEARS now. There is no excuse.

OK... It was a joke, guy, does everything need to be like that?

I love how I can apparently come across as insulting even when I'm actively trying not to now.

I thought the phrase "doing it wrong" was a pretty clear indication that it was just a bit of ribbing, thread's getting a bit soft for my liking.

Is that confirmed? Because I honestly don't remember them saying anything about setting rules with friends?

All the friends I play games with moved away and we used to play WoW and Starcraft and Halo together all the time but don't have time to play games together anymore.

Voice chat has been around for years, and people have been hating on it for years. I said in an earlier post, "Yes, it's better to have more options, voice chat would be good for some people, but I don't care in the slightest whether or not it's included."

Well, Nintendo is very well known as Family console so they don't want to lose those family friendly images that they had ongoing. How family would felt if your kid and you heard those people swearing and shouting. I can see why.
