What's this guys John for not posting here any more?
I don't think qq told me to keep the reason confidential when he told me, but I'm noticing other
SmashGAFers in-the-know deciding to keep mum. Maybe I'm about to betray some trust here, I'm not sure.
The gist of his leaving was that he thought GAF was getting too toxic. That there was too much focus on heated arguments over things that generally amounted to little in the grand scheme of things (e.g.: arguments over resolutions and framerates, console war dick-measuring); too much drive-by posting where people would read the thread title, skip over the entire thread and add their two cents, often wholly uneducated, without ever bothering to return to see if it received any response; bad, jerkish etiquette in general. Where in the past the slow turnaround time for getting an account and harsh moderation during the Junior period meant that you generally got a bunch of well-educated members who would be willing to read wordier posts and debate the merits of games at length, now you had people who would rather chip in solely with reaction GIFs, "first post nails it" and similar drivel. And if it wasn't
that, it was people obsessing over creepy things, like waifus or borderline-pornographic fan art or games like
Criminal Girls or whatever that totally-is-hentai-despite-pretenses Vita game is. For the most part, though,
SmashGAF has been above this, hence why he's still in the IRC for it and all that jazz.
What convinced him to never
come back after leaving, however, was a close friend of his getting permanently banned, and the nature of how it occurred. I don't wish to go into detail about this one publicly; however, I can understand his anger, and while I think the ban was warranted given the tone of the post that incurred it, the duration may have been a bit much. Not like I have any control over it, though.
I dunno this qq guy's history, but why is he being targeted so much? Not like he offered to suck major amounts of dicks like our other friend.
I've wondered that myself. I guess it's because he liked making big reactions, so people would tease him to get a rise. I'm pretty sure even he knew it was all in jest, though.
