Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

The best would be final destination mode with platforms for all stages. Platforms patterns can be tied to each stage, or, i'd even settle with random platform patterns.

I'm not saying that final destination mode is perfect, either, just saying 'toggling stage hazards' isn't that much better, if better at all. It only makes a small handful of stages more competitive, whereas final destination mode, while making them all the same, converts more noncompetitive stages into competitive ones.

So basically a Battlefield mode alongside Final Destination mode?

It seems to me the best thing to do would be to put in a stage boss switch. Not a hazard switch, a boss switch. Ordinary hazards like Koume & Kotake or the stuff on Spirit Train would be there to stay, but really big, obtrusive bosses like the Yellow Devil could be shut off. That seems like a fair compromise to me.

too bad, you can quote my current avatar though :P

But I needed Angry Luma!

There's no way that there's a crap-ton left. If there's more, I'm gonna say 1-3 more characters, MAYBE 5 if we're lucky.

Yea, the roster is incredibly stacked as is. I still have a little bit of hope for one or two last surprises. Maybe another ninja or pirate (space or normal) of some sort.

Well I know this is Marshal and not chorus kids but it would probably be in the same vein as this:

I kind of do hope they're 3D
See, actually, that's exactly what I don't want lol.

I'm pretty sure the newcomer will be someone besides Jigglypuff with music-based abilities.

It doesn't convert noncompetitive stages into competitive ones, it changes a competitive one's theme to match a noncompetitive one. Wow, that's a whole lot of competitive.

It just changes non competitive stages into the same type of stage, which isn't all that competitive friendly.

Maybe I misphrased that, but last I checked, final destination isn't a banned stage.

A stage like gerudo valley that has walk-offs (AND stage hazards) now becomes a stage that isn't on a banned list. Disabling stage hazards doesn't keep it from being banned, because it still has walk-offs.

Once again, not saying that final destination is a good solution, but it's better than JUST disabling stage hazards in some cases. Sure, it's transforming it into a stage that already exists, so it's not really adding a stage, just applying a theme to an existing one, but I'll take that over the same ol final destination.

Once again, the best solution would be to have each stage convert into final destination + 2-3 platforms in different positions/movement patterns. Ideally patterns would be locked to each stage, but I'd accept randomly picking from a set of established patterns.

So I walked into my local Futureshop (like a crappy, Canadian Best Buy) and wanted to place my preorder in for Smash 3DS. I talked to the guy in the games department and asked if I could preorder a copy.

He was new, so he had to go ask someone more experienced if I could place my order for Smash on the 3DS. After waiting for 15 minutes, he came back and sincerely apologized. His manager told him that they only take preorders for "the larger, more important games" and proceeded to point to the Madden 15 sign.

Well shit, there's no hype for Smash, guys. Pack it up :V

Has Nintendo done two directs for a single game before? Should we really expect another direct now, or is it more likely we will get one for the Wii U version?

I will hope that we get something new tomorrow!

People are just going to end up staying in one spot, waiting for that free/easy kill. Basically thrown out of the area, or chain-grabs to death.
Nobody wants that. :P

enforce Camping rules.

You can't just sit in one place at a time yo

I think they see them as two different games, technically, so I expect to get one for both-ish but mostly 3DS before that version releases, then another focused on the Wii U version closer to the release of that iteration. These could theoretically be part of larger Nintendo Directs, but I suspect for one or both they'll want to give them their own Direct(s).

So who here has a 3DS and speaks Japanese? :|

So far I have:
Made a Mii
Connected to the internet

I cannot find the NNID settings anywhere. If I open the eShop, I get a bunch of prompts and a EULA before it kicks me out.

I still don't get why walk-offs are automatically banned.

Two main reasons:

1. Prominent infinites in both Melee and Brawl allowed the top tier characters an advantage on the stages from the off. DDD's chaingrabs all the way to the blastzone on more than half the cast and Fox's waveshining are the two best examples of how lame and awful those stages would be if they were made legal. Eventually the Fox in Melee or the DDD in Brawl would get the walk-off they want and it'd be a free win.

2. Camping the blastzones is an effortless thing to do. Just sit back and wait for your opponent to approach you. Grab when they've whiffed or if they've hit your shield and then just do a back throw. This is actually a good tactic and discourages any interesting kind of play that you normally see on non-walk-off stages. It discourages one player from taking an active role and in turn the other player would be forced to camp lest they get stupidly KO'd for going in anyway. Bottom line: walk-offs don't provide for any test of skills and it overall goes against what's expected in a typical competitive match.

I don't think the Chorus Kids (or any other potential RH rep) should stay 2D. Part of the reason I love seeing franchises with 2D graphics getting reps in Smash is because I like seeing what Sakurai and Co. do to make their artstyle mesh with the rest of the cast. A 2D RH character wouldn't look bad or anything, I just think it'd be cool to see how they'd be re-imagined in 3D. That's why I'm so pumped for DHD. The original art for the dog I didn't like at all, but the new render is really really nice.

I think some of my favorite Smash designs have been where the artists have been able to basically take a character and recreate them in 3D (much like the Ice Climbers).

I also set up a Japanese 3DS, but I just skipped the create a NNID part (might do that later). I can access the eShop just fine though.
