Final Fantasy Type-0 HD impressions at PAX

They would have had to vastly overhaul the game.

I can easily see the first hour putting off people from the game. It's just very disjointed. At least make it visually appealing or something.

It doesn't help that the same track plays OVER AND OVER again for the first hour.

If type 0 is looking like a 2015 game does that mean we won't see XV until 2016?
No. Lightning Returns & FFX | X-2 HD were released within a month or two of each other, this and that 3DS FF game are probably released a few months apart if this is an early 2015 release like the 80% completion would imply. Some remaster like this is not going to affect the release schedule of a mainline release. They are just probably doing this quick-ish port job because they want to build up the FF fanbase on PS4Bone prior to FFXV's release (especially in Japan, which seems apathetic towards home consoles, which is bad for big JRPGs like FFXV & KHIII) and they had a gap in their release schedule that needed filling & could be filled with a quick project like this plus they get some + points for finally bringing Type-0 HD outside Japan, in people's eyes (though some hate it's not for Vita)

Honestly, I would be totally fine if we got significantly improved resolution like on the front page. That looks pretty on its own.

Took me five playthroughs to figure out how to even start that quest. And it was an irritating money sink. Now, the real quip is this:

Type-0 is so mature and dark that someone took the time to design individual panties for all of the female playable characters.

I'm stoked for this. Keep me busy until XV. I didn't think the graphics looked bad on PSP so they can only look better on next gen.

papi, don't leave me hanging

what do I have to do to see them? 5 playthroughs? is it that hard to miss?

On a scale from FF13 to Chrono Trigger, how good is this game?

Should I keep my eye on it?

You need to look for something worse than XIII seeing as that's a better game than Type 0 (I'm no fan of either).

There's a lot of cool footage from the admittedly fantastic opening that I'm sure they can splice together for hype trailers that completely disguises what a massive disappointment the game really is.

Over or under we get a bone thrown at us at TGS in regards to FFXV ?
After the over a year of silence even after Nomura promised we wouldn't have that, I'm somewhat afraid of making too many guesses about FFXV (especially after getting that tag -_-). I'm guessing a Fall/late 2015-March 2016 release window isn't impossible, but yes, knowing Square Enix anything could be possible, even a disastrous 2017 release if they are still in FFXIII levels of inefficiency with big mainline games that don't recycle assets.

My guess is that IF the game is early 2016 (or beyond), then the PR department might simply refuse any possible pleas from Nomura to show the game so far from release, no matter if the game looks mindblowing or is taking shape very well. If it's late 2015, then we could see it at TGS or Jump Festa this year with E3 2015 marking the starting point of their Big Hype Machine. But yeah, I'm somewhat done making any too definite statements about FFXV's possible showings & release dates. I'll just make people eat crow if my past predictions turn out to be correct. :p

Right, it's a nice stop-gap.

I don't consider it just a stop gap. Lots of people have been waiting for this for years. I thought I would have preferred it on the Vita, but it'll look great on a TV and playing with the dualshock 4.

Same here. Not every new release needs to be AAA-material to be relevant, especially to fans. I can understand why some would skip it though, especially after all this localization nonsense.

So...

Type 0 HD in 2015
Kingdom Hearts HD complete collection on Next Gen in 2016
FF12 HD in 2017
Final Fantasy 15 and KH3 in 2018+

Reasonable prediction?

Nice stop gap is flattery that the game doesn't really even earn.

Typo-0 HD around or before e3 2015 but I think it's going to follow the KH release patterns of fall
KH HD next gen collection 2017 a few months prior KH3 release
FFXV 2016 and KH3 2017
FF12 HD 2017+

Sounds reasonable

yeah i dropped the game after the first hour. got kinda repetitive with all the mashing of attack.

Will this game be rated M ?

Will FF finally step into the M arena ? lol Not that this rating reflects any actual maturity of course.

I didn't want to say some woman though because Sakurai did that and that thread exploded.

Discount 3 of those playthroughs because they were in Japanese. So really I didn't catch it till the end of my NG+ save. It's sort of unimportant so yes, you can miss it pretty easily.

The point is, though, Emina hangs around the terrace in hours 6-0 of your days after a certain point. You have to meet her, then head up to Arecia's Magic Bureau and talk to one of the loitering old dudes there, who will accuse her of being a spy. Go back down to confront her (technically she's supposed to have a mark on her body which exposes that she's a spy) and she'll tell teenaged you to buzz off because she's not getting naked for no teenager. Return to the old guy and he'll invent Vanish Magic on the spot. Spend the rest of the game plying her with gifts enchanted with Vanish Magic and then going back to the old man and filing your report. Various gifts grant different scenes (like, here she is at her desk, and there she is on her bed.) and after a series of reports you upgrade to Vanishra and Vanishga, which reveal her in increasing amounts of undress.

I believe that Dr. Kazusa eventually has a similar sidequest if you want to see him in his shorts, but that one was even longer so I never did get far in it.

I sort of spent my time at school trying to recruit classmates instead.

if lack of release news makes you not care about things
why do you have a final fantasy xv avatar

As for reception, some people love and some people think it's janky. It's considered to be the best game out of the Fabula Nova Crystallis thing, but the competition isn't exactly fierce.

Did SE give you the dagger you just stuck in my back

Fair enough, I guess I should just be happy to be getting something for the first time in years that doesn't involve Lightning or 'XIII'

That's the only way I could see them justifying a $60 price with. And it's sounding more and more like it might be $60. D:

I disagree. If it were already released in the west, then maybe. However, it's new to us, and most likely in a higher resolution. Just because it's a portable game ported to a console doesn't make it any less worthy of the full price. Plenty of portable titles have more value than full blown console titles.

I believe it's retailed at 60 dollars on most websites of course that's just a placeholder i would assume.... but given this is square-enix i wouldn't be too surprised.

Though FFX/X-2 HD launched for 40 bucks and they spent more time on that then the originals so here's hoping.

I'd still be okay with paying full price as it is a completely new game for me. But bundling FFXV demo will make it more attractive and may make some fence sitters re-consider.

I doubt we'll see a playable demo for FFXV until maybe 2015 at the earliest so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Just like FFX | X-2 HD and KH1.5 & 2.5 were 60$ like everyone was so sure of before their prices were announced, because dat greedy SQEX means they can never price their games reasonably.

Oh, wait...

I'm betting on 39,99€/$, though they might add a 10$ "next-gen" tax and sell it for 49,99$/€ like other 3rd party publishers have done.

They better release a demo.

Who knows maybe they really don't know what to do with the game and the demo will help them figure how to make it.

LOL FFXIII AC Demo

A playable demo for FFXV would indeed be fantastic to have, though I'm curious if SE would even do that. It seems too smart.

I'm not sure if I'd laugh or rage if FFXV does show up at TGS only to be a closed screening viewing.

Type-0 may not release until mid to late 2015, so it could work. Just depends on how far XV is.
Type-0 HD is 80% done and it's not a new game they are developing, just brushing up what is already there or just using some higher quality assets they already have. It's a March 2015 game at latest, especially considering how sparse their release calendar is (from now to the end of the fiscal year, we know of Theatrhythm, KH2.5, Final Fantasy 3DS (Japan only), Sleeping Dogs PS4/Xbone Edition, Nosgoth and possibly Bravely Second (Japan Only)), so they'll probably want to release it prior to the end of it to boost their profits for the current fiscal year.

If SE would ever sell an FFXV demo, they'd definitely pull a Ground Zeros.

People stop dreaming!!!

I don't think SE has garnered enough goodwill to pull a GZ, people obviously had an issue with GZ but at the end of the day it's lord kojima.

Imagine SE attempts a prologue for FFXV and the prologue won't included in the actual release ala TPP.. I'm pretty sure all hell would break loose while kojima smiles lol

S-E can be faulted for many things, but when have they really been greedy with pricing?
I don't know. But I have a feeling they'd do it. No body really expected Kojima to do it.

oh don't worry...I would buy it in a heartbeat.

That's true. So what are the impressions of this game? Was it fun to play for those who have been able to?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a really fun portable game, though it felt constrained; it had a grand plot, but occasionally barebones execution. Towns were extremely barren and small (they were literally mission areas that, once liberated, were populated with a handful of NPCs), and a lot of character points/plot/history were locked in the game's encyclopedia as opposed to being weaved into the tale more elegantly. It seemed like there were plenty great of ideas but just no resources or time to implement them properly. A lot of the plot progressed through short, narrated in-between-chapter slideshows instead of having us experience it. The game also suffered from a lack of a second analogue stick for the camera, and lack of pause when going through the menu -- meaning that you could be attacked if you needed to change settings mid-battle.

That said, each character played very differently, and for a cast of fourteen, that was a real treat. Some had slow animation, others had counter skills, and of course there was the distinction between long-ranged and short-ranged fighters, etc.. I thought the battle system was an improvement from Crisis Core, which tended to be a bit button-mashy. Type-0 rewarded you for timing your attacks during critical moments when enemies would be vulnerable to your attacks. NPC dialogue was decent, especially in main area -- the school -- since dialogue changed for each chapter. Cutscene direction, especially the CG ones, was fantastic IMO.

It's a flawed game, but for a portable title I thought it was an incredible experience.
