Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Looks like there's a Xenoblade 3DS port coming, and it seems like it might be exclusive to the new 3DS with its improved CPU. But then again it might just look better on new 3DS.

So, isn't this going to lead to 'New' 3DS exclusive games?

Nah, just some remappings with games putting the two extra buttons on the touchscreen for old 3DS devices instead of on ZL and ZR.

No reason to sacrifice potential sales for a couple of extra buttons.

Now I'm really looking forward to the next batch of first party games that will hopefully be announced soon!

The available ones worked flawlessly with just one stick, so there have to be games in the pipeline that will take full advantage of the new control options!

Seems like the lifespan of the 3DS will be a lot longer than expected...I'm fine with that!

OK, that 2nd stick looks like ass, and if I main this I have to buy a new memory card.

But then they announced Xenoblade 3DS only works on the new model and it's like "welp, where do I send the check".

Better 3D? I hope that means a better screen (although no res increase is still a pisser).

Second stick is a good move, though I'm not sure that the nipple style was the right way to go. Guess I'd need to try it.

Disappointed that there's no spec bump. The machine's just too weak.

I *think he said HD videos and there is a spec bump.

*I have no clue what Iwata was saying just trying to piece it together

Hmmm. Not true anymore.

I.... really don't understand the point of this.

It's far too late for them to be able to add buttons and a second analog "stick" at this point in the game, no game will make mandatory use of them and eliminate the entire current 3DS userbase and if it's literally just the old circle pad being jammed in, that thing is dead in the water outside of Monster Hunter.

Not to mention that second tiny little laptop style nub is in possibly the least ergonomic position I've ever seen.

It's a stopgap device. They're preparing the future portable device, trying to make a smooth transition from this model to the next handheld that will be built from the start with a second analogue and 2 extra shoulder buttons.

Second analog, second set of shoulder buttons, faster cpu for miiverse/eshop/etc. This directly addresses most of my hardware complaints from the beginning.

I love how every practical hardware revision that has been predicted this gen (3DS losing 3D, 3DS gaining 2nd analog, XBone with no Kinect, Vita with internal memory and a lower quality screen) has not only released but proven skeptics wrong. :D

This also will serve as a test if a more powerful hardware revision actually splinters a userbase or do users just grumble and upgrade.

I honestly believe its the latter.

Games exclusive to the new console? Is this some kind of joke or misinterpretation? I won't believe it

It has a new CPU, and new buttons. Of course some games will only function with the new 3DS.

It's more like a middle upgrade solution until the next handheld they have, maybe they're trying to stretch things out until they figure out a meaningful way to approach their next handheld considering the emergent mobile trends.

In any event, it works for me.

Uh what? This was hella surprising to me. After 1000000 versions of 3DS, I didn't expect another new one lol. I am not in the handheld market, bought a Vita and play it from time to time just abit however, I wonder what the people who bought 3DS's before XL was even announced feel like.

I think it'll probably be some kind of DSi-enhanced like games that you can still play on older models but have some exclusive functionnalities on new ones.

EDIT: I guess I was wrong (ie: Xenoblade 3DS).

It sounds like there's been a CPU bump, yeah. Xenoblade appears to be the first 'exclusive' title, but it sure as shit won't be the last.

I'm really hoping that the screens have been improved as a result of the new 3D tech. I'd happily trade my old XL for a new 'OG' 3DS if that's the case.

Damn Nintendo seems on the ball with this 3DS stuff. That's a really nice upgrade.
And the ability to swap plates is really cool and will probably make them a nice chunk of change.

Wait what the fuck. There are actually games that will be exclusive to the New 3DS? Is this a fucking joke?
