There's like a <1% chance that "new" 3DS stays exclusive to Japan. New hardware (almost) always causes enough of a splash overseas that it's worth it, especially if they're going to be developing games exclusively for the thing.
 
Part of me is exploding right now because of Shulk and leak confirmation.

I honestly don't know how I feel about the leak days after the fact but man, it's been a crazy ride these last few days.

Reyn will be the easter egg for Xenoblade level. Calling it now.

I hope Melia wasn't chosen to make an appearance because Nintendo may have difficulty getting her voice actor for her lines because I'm guessing Jenna Coleman is pretty busy at the moment.

Oh my... I almost caved and bought a Zelda 3DS XL refurbished. Good thing they announced this!

Also, I wonder how many of the remaining vets/unrevealed newcomers are secret.. I mean, we have...

And a present starting roster thought to be anywhere between 34-38 characters

Besides the obvious ones that won't appear (Roy and Pichu), and the ones that have a difficult time coming up (Ice Climbers, Mewtwo, Wolf, Lucas, and Snake), I can reasonably see Falco, Ness, Mr. Game & Watch, Jigglypuff, Ganondorf, Chorus Kids (;), Bowser Jr., Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, Duck Hunt, and R.O.B. as unlockables. If Wario was the only one that wasn't locked of what hasn't been revealed, I would be fine with it.

He's a sword user who isn't Link or doesn't have the color blue on him ;)
 
Shulk trailer, NEW 3DS, Xenoblade NEW 3D.
Today is a good day.

The lack of an English direct seems even weirder, guess Nintendo will announce the NEW 3DS at PAX or something. Hope we don't have to wait 3,000 years for Xenoblade.

That they worked very hard to make it happen.

Jokes aside, that his IP is not cohesive with Smash, his profile (as of attacks and etc) are not synced with the other characters, so they had to put an extra effort for this

He's very new and so far a one off and thus not become an established Nintendo mainstay like other characters in the game.
 
In case anyone was wondering, Past stages can get a Final Destination version as well :)

In the extended trailer, Brinstar had a FD mode at 2:20
