Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

So how likely do people think that the inevitable Majora's Mask remake will be a New 3DS exclusive (or at least have New 3DS-enhanced features)?

Incredibly unlikely it'll be exclusive to new 3DS.

Likely it'll have New 3DS-enhanced features or performance. I'm assuming second stick for camera, which people with a New 3DS or CPP could use.

Why would they release only one new game that wasn't even that popular in the first place to entice people buy a new hardware?

If you want to atract people with software you don't stop on just one game.

Monster Hunter is the attracting software for Japan here.

I did the something similar at GAME here in the UK, with the Nintendo trade in offer they had going.

Paid full price for the XL, he marked the receipt, took them both home and transfered, then went back with the receipt and continued with the offer. The difference refunded to my card.

Yeah. This was the exact process I went through at a US Gamestop and traded in my OG 3DS towards my 3DS XL because they advertised the fact that they were allowing this.

OMG OMG TIMMY AND TOMMY NOOK

Ill get the Isabell cover.

That's the thing, I don't have anything to play on my 3DS for the next few months, so ideally I'd sell my 3DS XL and buy the revision whenever it comes to the West.

Except I can't do that because then I'll lose the bunch of downloaded games I have AND I won't be able to tie my New 3DS to the same NNID I use on my Wii U.

At least I learned my lesson and I refuse to buy any downloadable Wii U games until they fix their retarded account system.
The system is not going to devalue anytime soon. GameStop will most likely have a trade-up program and you can transfer your shit then.

Again did you refer to the DSi as a new console. I'm guessing you didn't as that certainly was an exceedingly rare sentiment.

I'll be honest and say no. I bought the DSi the day it came out too. But I don't remember seeing such a cool exclusive game being sold next to it. Nor do I remember any DSi only gmaes hitting shelves of any worthwhile note.

OMG... Game Boy Color was a new platform too! Could you play Game Boy Color games on an original Game Boy?

wtf people...

There were how many? Maybe up to 50 games that were GBC only? (EDIT: Okay, there were more than 50, but still) Most games were also playable on the original GameBoy, it's only that the GBC portion most of the time had some exclusive stuff, like that GBC exclusive dungeon in Zelda DX.

If it will be more like DS to DSi, then I'm fine with my old XL. But looking at Xenoblade I sense that we might have a GB -> GBC situation here. More and more games will come out for New 3DS, and the old one might become obsolete.

The New 3DS is launching with MH4G in October. I think by early next year, after the holiday season in Japan, Nintendo will have a much better idea of how successful the adoption rate is, and that could determine how aggressive they might be willing to go with more New 3DS only software.

Yeah but you can buy the Wii version and play it on Wii and Wii U.... so is it really that big a deal? We don't even know if Nintendo will translate the portable version, I'm guessing they won't. They barely translated the Wii version!

Poor Nintendo of Europe. How the fuck are they supposed to sell the old model DS's this holiday when there's new models around the corner in early 2015? Why not release these for Christmas? I was sure that was the whole point.

Madness, just madness.

WTF, out of nowhere, just like the 2DS. How is Nintendo able to keep this stuff a secret while the world has known what the iPhone 6 looks like for half a year?

There are a lot more tech journos searching for cracks in the Apple production machine than game journos doing the same with console manufacturers, partly because the audience is greater and partly because they're actually capable of investigative journalism.

It looks like they have brought back design decisions from the XL to the 3DS. I expect that I will actually "downgrade" from the XL when this is released. The new 3DS seems to fix all the problems I had, which were few, with the old system. This new one has non-glossy anti-reflective screen and rounded corners.

Now, the question remaining is, will the be a charging cradle available for this?

Fuck this shit. I literally purchased a 3DS XL yesterday and its too late to cancel the order. I know there's gonna be exclusives for these the systems like they've done with GBC and DSi in the past.

I don't need to have all the new toys but it would've been nice if Nintendo had announced it or teased it. P.s that name is terrible. Wtf is wrong with your ad department Nintendo?

Why don't you just return it? If you've ordered it, all you should have to pay is return shipping. In my country, you are by law entitled to a 14 day period in which you can return goods bought via order or door-to-door sales (the seller will of course usually require you to return the items in the same condition they were sent to you). Brick-and-mortar stores usually go even further than that.

I doubt we'll be seeing many exclusives for this thing.

LOL... most of those leaks come from factory workers, no investigative journalism required.

I still remember Mega Man Xtreme was technically gameboy/super gameboy compatible... It did run on the older systems, but it experienced massive slow downs... Game was definitely designed for GBC only and they switched it to work on both late in the game.

Well this is a nice surprise. They appeal to me on a tech standpoint and an asthetic standpoint, from the better viewing angle and (slightly) better battery life to the adorable SNES/Super Famicom button colours. The only thing I'm not sold on is that microscopic second stick.

In a way it's good it won't come out here until 2015, because I'm broke as fuck right now.

More I think about it, the more it smells of desperation.

Nintendo needs new things to buoy sales, but is stuck mid-gen.

So put out a revision. Cool!

But: their circumstances demand something more than a small revision might provide. The new model needs some extra pull over and above cosmetic or new color tweaks. So make one cheap and modest change to the game runtime (CPU), and dangle the fear of software lockout over your existing audience to push more sales. Lead the charge with a first party game.

'Cynical Nintendo' at its best, but these are probably desperate times for Nintendo. I doubt the CPU improvement is anything that couldn't have been put in the original model.

I have to admit, these look very nice... Better 3D sweet spot, second stick and updated specs make it awfully tempting to update from my current 3DS XL.

The better sweet spot uses eye tracking and gyro, not a better screen... so it's hard to say how that will really work in practice...

Why would they release only one new game that wasn't even that popular in the first place to entice people buy a new hardware?

Because the other games don't have to be full exclusive. They could just offer better visuals/framerate/whatever on New 3DS.
No major game is going to be exclusive to the New 3DS, unless all the 3DS owners migrate to it.

I don't mind waiting, I wasn't expecting this anyway, I can still play my games fine. But it will be a most welcomed upgrade when it comes!

This may have been their original intention but met with production delays...

(Edit) Anyone know if this upgraded CPU will in any way effect non-enhanced games? I'm thinking not... but not having slowdown in games like Fire Emblem when you have 3D turned on would be nice.

I just can't see them kicking out a 40 million userbase for a 3D Zelda title. OoT3D sold 3.35 million, they aren't going to risk it unless the New 3DS has a massive adoption rate. The hardware was also fine with OoT3D, so I'm not sure what huge gains they'd get from the CPU other than maybe a boost to 60fps.

Xenoblade is them paddling in the water. It's not a huge title but it isn't DSiWare either.

EDIT: And honestly the New 3DS is going to be a much tougher sell in the West. Japan is going to want their inbuilt CPP for Monster Hunter. The West not so much.

When i'm just buying new xl, then a week later, nintendo done this (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I'll wait another announcement for specific title for new 3ds before i get another 3ds

Out of interest - Is the Wii Version hard to find/pricey in the US? Still holds a £40 price here in the UK.

I think they'll translate it. If they already have the translation for the Wii version the least they could do is use that right?
