Xenoblade announced for New 3DS

Time between GB and GBC: 9 years.

Number of worthwhile retail DSi exclusives: 0.

Hm.

Xenoblade Chronicles is still available for the Wii. Not seeing how this exclusive is really that worthwhile. Hell, Xenoblade is really designed for the big screen, not for a small screen that looks pretty bad FPS wise.

Nintendo is milking the devoted crowd, as they'll likely purchase a second 3DS just to play the exclusives. And IMO further alienating everyone else. The normal 3DS isn't exactly releasing AAA titles on a preferable schedule for many and this is just a kick in the testies. (Was Kirby in May the most recent one?)

But Xenoblade 3DS has the potential to reach a bigger audience, especially people/kids who don't even know about the original Xenoblade Chronicles - since it was only a niche-hit on the Wii - and thus help increase the awareness of the Wii U sequel.

What audience? The system isn't even out yet.

A low price Wii U port could have done all that and more.

This is crazy. I just finished it on the Wii yesterday, and now this?

I don't really have a desire to replay the entire game again, but this is perfect for anyone who missed out on the Wii version and doesn't want to pay the ridiculous prices for a used copy.

I know there's outrage regarding the fact that it's only playable on new 3DS... but it's going to be on the eshop, right? That's the important thing here. It's not a limited release that will be selling for $90 used on ebay. Eventually, the new 3DS price will drop, and Xenoblade will be waiting :)

That's a nice way to think about it!

Yay positivity!

Xenoblade saw a limited GameStop exclusive release and new copies of the game go for roughly $90.

Don't pretend people haven't been begging for a Wii U port since X got announced.

I do wonder if they would even have had to do anything graphically to the game. Just scale the assets to their original sizes if they were reduced for the Wii hardware in the first place to do it cheaply. A down port of Xenoblade is the wrong direction for that game when it was already limited by the Wii hardware. This 3DS version doesn't look good and doesn't seem to run well either. I'm really surprised by how uninterested I am in this.

Oh they most definitely can, I'm still not seeing why the outrage over THIS particular thing. Want to talk about mistakes, talk about the lack of any good games the first few months this generation, the haphazard directs (which America is needed of one for a while now), the low battery life of the first models, the PR, etc.

The "argument" is that this "New 3DS" is something done before and something we shouldn't act like this came out of nowhere. Though, as usual, Nintendo can do no RIGHT to some people here.

This sucks on every level. Of course we can argue against an idea like this. It completely alienates everyone that just bought a current 3DS.

Uh... this looked pretty dire based on the trailer. Not the best way to showcase your "New" 3DS hardware, Nintendo.

It is really ugly looking which is the only silver lining right now for me as I won't be picking up a new 3DS

Awesome announcement!

Will definitely buy, since I will have to buy the new 3DS anyway. So glad I held out on the original XL.

Exactly! And even then, fans have already improved the textures quite a bit working pro bono. Considering how similar the Wii U architecture is to its two predecessors that would have been a way easier job.

It's a way to get people to buy a new handheld. The 3DS hardware market is falling at a rapid rate. This new 3DS is something to keep that market alive for another few years (probably 2-3) before the new handheld is announced. The Xenoblade exclusive and other New 3DS exclusives are just ways to increase incentive to "upgrade."

Have you even read my post? I wrote that I completely understand the reason behind Nintendo's decision but I don't agree with their execution of it. Try to keep the market alive without alienating current 3DS owners or go for a true successor instead.

Feel free to buy the new 3DS if you want but don't try to defend this just because they have done the same BS in the past already.

Exactly how I feel.

Absolute BS

Give us the option to turn off the constant character chatter during battles! Ruined the game for me. I can't play a game in which I'm constantly annoyed by the characters, and I really want to play Xenoblade.

And? People beg for things all the bloody time. What makes this game so special? Besides, if anything. This will finally drop the price of that Gamestop exclusive. When has begging ever been enough to justify this much contempt?

I see gutted Wii version(new copies) at my GS all the time. They might be open, but they are new, and it was only $45 dollars. Its how I got it. I have 2 versions, PAL & NA.

Hmmm. I could tell from the trailer ti's going to be a obvious downgrade to work on the New 3DS.
But man Xenoblade on the go is just perfect. Will probably beat my Wii copy and just double dip.

You say that like half steps are a good thing. Do you remember why SEGA isn't making consoles anymore?
Yes, because SEGA repeatedly made poor financial decisions.

Nintendo has proven over and over again that these half steps are good for them.

Not even close, but it would have helped.
I hear you man, I was an early adopter of the Wii and it really pissed me off initially to see 3DS get games like Pilotwings and Luigi's Mansion 2 which seemed like obvious fits for the Wiimote. But eventually you gotta move on.

Xenoblade will likely still be available in some form on whatever Nintendo system you do decide to pick up later down the line. It looks like they're trying to build it into a big IP.

How? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW? HOW?

How is this alienating people? Why all the fucking hyperbole? Why is everything Nintendo ever does is claimed as nothing more than "betrayal" or "alienation"? There is ONE exclusive coming out. And its a downgraded PORT at that. We don't even know if its coming out of Japan and already we have our hate engines rolling at full force.

Actually, for that matter, how in is this any uglier than the 3DS? It looks the same!

Why beg for a Wii U port when the Wii one can be played on the Wii U?

Xenoblade with 3D effects sounds great, but if the downgrade graphically is too noticeable... I think im just going to stick with the Wii version like DKC returns.

On the other hand, I will be upgrading to a New 3DS XL once those hit.

Wow unexpected!
But that framerate, the Wii took a big hit whenever there was a lot of stuff going on, no wonder this will run really slow. But more Xenoblade is always better.

Wow, I'm genuinely surprised that they are doing this, and only calling it "New 3DS." It'd be better if they named it something else entirely, because there's likely to be all types of games that only work for the new 3DS.

Bro I don't know what time it is where you are but make yourself a little cocktail and relax. If you can't fathom how this doesn't alienate current 3DS owners I don't think we can have a forward moving conversation. At the very least though you could try to not take the criticisms personally.

This game is a slap in the face to all the current millions of 3DS owners. Leaves such a bad taste in my mouth.
Honestly the most pissed off I've been with gaming news since the Xbox One DRM fiasco. What's really sad is all of the people defending it.

I wonder what would happen if Microsoft announced the Xbox One.5. It's an upgraded Xbox One that will have exclusive games developed for it! Wouldn't that be lovely?

It's ok man. It's Nintendo. Nintendo does this all the time. You should have expected it. Just buy another system.
