God i hate that all star mode looks like it's going in a set order like brawl. I was hoping for random battles like melee. =/

Have we talked about how All-Star mode was seen in the Japanese commercial

Yeah. Pit isn't there for some reason.

He hasn't been unlocked yet, yeah that's it!
All Star mode is probably still not unlocked in that screen shot. Just because they're playing it doesn't mean anything!

Less sarcastically though: I guess there's the possibility that this isn't all star mode, however ridiculous that notion is.

It's interesting that we see more than three characters there. Most modes only allow 4 fighters at a time, unless the opponents are the generic fighting whatever team characters. I wonder if they all fight you at once, or, more likely, if they just show up after the initial opponents are gone.

I suppose it depends on what Sakurai considers for those characters. It's All-Stars mode so everyone has to be unlocked, but I suppose they could gin something up for the commercials.

Could be a method to randomly select several characters from that era. Then it would have the same theme like Brawl did, but it would be less static to make multiple playthroughs more palatable.

So, its still in a fixed order (or maybe it chooses a random order for the years, with just the year ranges pre-defined.. who knows :p ).. And more than 3 enemies in a single battle, like in Brawl

Classic mode is randomized for you at least.

I really hated that All Star wasn't random in Brawl. All Star is the mode I replayed the most in Melee because it was always different. It was a great way to "demo" all the fighters because you could play against everybody in the game. A lot of my early learning curve Smash was playing All Star over and over again.

Playing All Star 51 times, and it being the same thing every single time, is really stupid.

Can anyone recap for me today's news and videos? Excluding Shulk that is, I've caught up on his trailer and screenshots.

Well there really isn't a LOT of information just so much as there is BIG information.
Two major things:
1) Shulk, as you know
2) New 3DS XL and LL announcements

The first solidifies the leaks as 100% legit. If there was any room for doubt before, that should now be tossed aside COMPLETELY.

Also Nintendo goofed in a Japan trailer for Smash 3DS where Ganondorf is visible for a split of a second. (Personally I think it was intentional, cause Sakurai and Nintendo as a whole love throwing in hints/secrets like that.)

That's pretty much it...

Pig Ganon deconfirmed :( :( :( :( Same with 'old lady impa' and 'old man' from zelda 1.

We'll know if it's intentional or not depending on whether or not they reupload the trailer, like they did for brawl :)

THIS CAN'T BE TRUE
I'm certainly no Metaknight expert, but what were the things that made him especially bad? I thought there was some sort of continuous cloaking glitch, and such a glitch might have been fixed.

I thought another thing was his ability to repeatedly ledge hang for invincibility, but that's gone with the new ledge mechanic, right?

Jumping or gliding MIGHT turn out to be adjusted some.

The swimsuit thing is straight out of Xenoblade. All the characters, male and female, have swimsuits as armor options (some of them are really good too). Dunban even has a whole skill tree devoted to going armorless.
I own and have beaten Xenoblade. Maybe I missed it, but is there a point in here somewhere?

The infinite cape thing was more or less icing on the cake... it was dumb that it existed, but afaik hard to do and easy to identify and force a ban on.

It is nice that planking is gone. Metaknight was able to do this especially well. But that also applied to a lot of the characters.

It isn't really just a few things that make MK great, it's most of the things about him. He has tons of mobility in the air and on the ground, his tornado is ridiculously safe and high priority, all his aerials are really fast and spammable, he has great kill options between dSmash, fSmash, nair, up B, and probably others. His tilts are all great too.

His weakness is that he's kinda light so he dies early.

Basically, as I understand it, he just has plenty of options for almost everything. I'd explain more but I don't understand the game very well.
