Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

shit.

this sucks hard for anyone who has a 3DS with modded capture cards. cannot upgrade console since we'd lose the ability to record game footage.

this is the first time i'm conflicted about a new redesign. at least the 2DS wasnt appealing to me and i could skip it but i actually want this one for the improvements but that also means i won't be able to record whatever i play on it.

if only they had included a mini HDMI out port....

also, this truly is the DSi of this generation.

It’s worth mentioning that the smaller New 3DS actually has a bigger screen than the original 3DS. It’s now 3.88″ inches for the top screen instead of 3.5″. Tempting! I enjoy the 3DS XL but the screen size reveals more jaggies so maybe this is a good compromise.

Yeah, I kind of actually want this. The XL and the 3DS resolution are awful, so a compromise between the two would be good.

Is it still 320x240?

Pretty sure it was always 400x240

Guys, we need a New 3DS version of this:

Replace Goku with Krillin and maybe.

I know, HYPE!

Shame to hear about the modded capture card whatnot. Since license transfers are 1-way (which makes sense since this is not a 3DS system, but a New Nintendo 3DS), I can see quite a few people having to make some hard decisions or double-dip.
Late to the party, is it still compatible with SD cards and DS games?
No (micro SD or bust), Yes.

Bingo.

For the record, the DSi had bigger screens than the DS as well. Not too big of a pixel density change mind you (which is a good thing), but comfortably bigger.

Any chance this'll hit the magic £100/$100 price point? Nintendo Life's conversion from yen had the new 3DS (normal size one) at £93 (not taking taxes into account, of course).

There are better ways to fit it on.

Now that is just quick Photoshop, but I am sure there would be a way to fit a larger 2nd stick on there and not have an eraser.
That wouldn't work; how would you use both sticks AND use the inward shoulder buttons. You'd have no grip.

IMO that's awful. Not very comfy holding both thumbs that low and reaching for L/R. Try it on your current 3DS. Your index fingers don't wrap around/rest on L/R.

I'm sure this has been answered, but I didn't see it in the OP-

Are you required to "wipe" your old 3DS to use you digital purchases on the New 3DS, or are they finally going to implement an account system which ties your games to your Nintendo ID?

Second stick, better battery life and better 3D. So what it should have been like originally. Thanks Nintendo. How do I transfer all my bought content to it? Same thing as Wii to Wii U? Because that sounds to scary. If by some small chance that process screws up you lose your stuff.

On a positive note those colored buttons look like candy and I want to eat them.

I'm looking forward to the update !

I love the 3DS, and believe the 3D itself is a massively under appreciated feature. Trying to keep it dead on while playing so the 3D works however is near impossible. The eye tracking feature will be awesome.

Improved graphics and speed, full backwards compatibility, funky colour change inserts.

I have both the 2DS and the XL. I actually prefer the sharpness of the 2DS screen, so the the New* (Ugh) standard 3DS seems perfect.

My only bone to pick ... I wish Nintendo would make their portable consoles way more thinner. They need to be more pocketable.

This is a nice little bump versus just have a plastics change.

I need to see both New models side by side to make a decision but the SNES buttons and faceplates are already pushing me towards the small one. If the screen is big enough, I'll definitely go for it over the XL.

This isn't better.

Your thumb defaults to the position where the abxy buttons are currently, having them further down will make it awkward to hit the R/ZR buttons. You can get away with it on the left side as you don't use the d-pad alongside L/ZL buttons that often. Most games will have you using the slider primarily.

It's a good way of adding another camera control short of making the handheld wider like the CPP does.

I bought my XL earlier this year, I won't be getting this until maybe there are games I want to play exclusively for it

Yeah, that sounds like the way to go. I swapped my silver XL (got that day one) for the really pretty white XL. The new XL isn't an option since I don't like the metallic colours and no faceplates and no coloured buttons. So I'm leaning towards the normal new 3DS, but going back to the smaller one after years of using the XL... I don't know.

It's slightly bigger than the 3DS too. I thought they'd be able to up the screen size without making it bigger but seems not.

On the shell, sure but in terms of on the motherboard underneath the shell etc it's a lot more problematic. There's a whole board with the button etc.

That white block on the right is the usual circle pad. It's not impossible I guess but harder than you'd think unless you make it bigger.

Posts like this make me think people have some kind of bizarre interpretation of the 3DS library as being all first or third-person shooters. Why on EARTH would you want the analog stick in the primary position? The buttons absolutely have to be where they already are, they're the primary interaction point for virtually 100% of 3DS software. Even the games that USE the circle pad use it primarily for camera control, which you'd want pushed to the side, not where your thumb naturally lies. The c-stick is honestly the best option while maintaining the system's shape. I bet in practice it'll feel pretty alright.

Nintendo should have just waited another year and released 4DS with more upgrades
- All the features of New 3DS (Amiibos, extra buttons)
- Dual Sliders (not a shit C stick)
- Higher Res Capacitive top screen
- Powerful as a Vita or more
- Full backwards compatability with DS/3DS as well as VC support for N64 and all past consoles

You mean wait another five years? Because that's the soonest I expect a more powerful than Vita handheld from N.

Can someone make a comparison of the official prices of the OG 3DS and the 3DSXL in Japan, US and Europe. I saw that the change in yens for the New OG is like 112€ which is fucking cheap.

The song in the trailer reminded me of the music from the New Super Mario Bros. series, and then I realized that the system was called New* 3DS too lol
